  2. New Brunswick’s #Librano provincial gov’t has posted an update to their gov’t budget for the year

    It’s 1,66 Billion, and there are 337,650 households in the province
    So that’s $4916.33 per household this year
    And this is prior to whatever happens with the tariff fiasco
    And this is while others outside the province provide 20% of New Brunswick’s gov’t revenue via equalization

    2. I have lived in many parts of Canada but still identify as western Canadian. I have traveled through the Maritimes and visited Newfoundland/Labrador last summer. They are very beautiful places, but my personal experience is that most of the population has a mentality of “I’m alright Jack!” and totally depend on the government. There is no “get up and do it yourself” in general.
      Yes, I realize the rich distinct history of the Maritime provinces, but sadly, their glory days were last in the early 19th century. Why can they not create a loose federation of government so that there is not multiple duplications of government departments? Why oh why is Prince Edward Island even a province? Unless things have changed dramatically, when I visited in 1985, Charlottetown was 45,000 people and the entire province was under 200,000.
      I will answer my own question, politics will continue “as is” until no one will lend them any more money. It always comes down to the game of “musical chairs”, whether it is personal finances or government finances.

      1. Everything you wrote deeply resonates with me. I was born & raised in Vancouver … when it was a nice, sleepy city and people were normal.

        I’ve lived & worked in 4 Canadian provinces: BC, Manitoba, Ontario, & Québec. I was treated well in the other provinces, except for some rather unfortunate events in Southern Ontario where I quickly learned what the Laurentian Elite was … and I wasn’t part of it.

        For many decades, I’ve welcome some form of Western Canadian separation. I still hope it happens, though southwest B.C. is now so fully populated with moronic Leftists, I’m not sure they would add anything positive to a new country.

    3. I retired as an economics professor at UNB at Fredericton some nine years ago, and these are my thoughts. NBers voted out the Progressive Conservative government, a government that had balanced the budget the last three years in office. The current Liberal government spends and spends, with little or no impetus budget tightening. This is true for Canada as a whole, but there is little constructive discussion here about how to balance the budget. This, where this province has seen a net immigration of young families, people who work and add tonthe tax base.

        No government, at any level, has any sense of fiscal restraint or competence.
        At the municipal level, they tell us they worked really hard to keep tax increases to 8% increase. Yeah, sure, that was really, really hard. Meanwhile, the regional district, a level removed from accountability, continues to be a pseudo-provincial level of spending idiocy and duplication.
        Provincially? The NDP is a clueless, rogue, ideological horde of union despots, who see debt as a dirty word, so it’s never uttered. Any criticism of same, and those are labelled as cruel nutjobs that want to hurt people.
        The debt spiral will end BADLY.

Google says N.B. has 675,000 filers, I used households as when there are 2 tax filers in the same house sharing income and expenses… it’s generally all smooshed together. 2/3 of those filers are under $55k/year and I don’t see a plan for either lowering the overspending, nor actually paying down that debt.
        I’ve said in the past that the Atlantic provinces would be ruined if AB were to separate, people should plant “Victory Gardens” where their front lawns were.
        I agree with the concept JMM above mentions, of having the 4 Atlantic provinces as one province, their over representation in the House of Commons / Senate and dependency on equalization is not demonstrative of a functioning democracy. It’s broken, and the only solution consistently mentioned by gov’t is “things would be worse if the other guys were in power” … or “we’re doing this for the people” … the standard issue non-responses during legislative debates.
        Also I should have been clear in my above comment, the $1.66 Billion is this year’s gov’t deficit.

    If vaccines work why do we care if the Amish won’t accept them? And can we really eliminate disease by vaccines when we allow so many unvaccinated immigrants into our country (and free travel between countries by the unvaccinated)?

  9. About Trump renaming everything “America”. Actually, people living in Baffin Island in the far north, and in Tierra del Fuego on the southern top of South America, and those living in-between, technicslly are Americans. Everybody in the western hemisphere live in North or South Americsn. If anything, it’s the U.S. citizens who expropriated the word “American” for themselves. That’s wrong, but being horrified at the word America being applied outside the U.S. is equally wrong.

    1. The Lake America thing is making Canadian heads explode. Someone near to me tried to explain that by renaming Lake Ontario, Lake America, Trump was actually declaring war on Canada or at least trying to appropriate the lake. I responded with “didn’t Canada do the same thing when it named it Lake Ontario?”. The response was “Ontario is a First Nations term that was given to the lake before Canada or the USA were even formed”. To which I responded “Oh, so the lake is actually owned by the First Nations” to the sounds of an exploding head.

I’ve gotten some of the blankest stares from folks, they’re certain I’ve been drinking at that point, or trolling… but they can’t argue back very well while Googling the actual name of Mexico at the same time.

  11. Regarding changing names and such, I just hope the gays keep calling themselves “queers”. I always found that rather amusing that they self identify as such, while at the same time serving as a frank admission to the public that many of them are definitely not normal and one should probably stay far away.

BTW … what’s missing from that now viral video of homeless shitholes surrounding UC Berkeley Housing is that the ‘University Village’ in Albany … far from the University campus … is: Married Student and Family Housing!!!!
