Instead of pretending to take actions that will hold the total temperature increase down to 2 degrees Celsius, we will now, in the words of the document, solemnly pretend to “[pursue] efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C.” There was, however, no mechanism specified to reach this target; nobody volunteered to adopt more aggressive decarbonization policies to implement this change in the real world. In other words, the world announced that it intends to lose weight on the same six eclair diet as before.

Not only is the target rather fuzzy, but they never state the timeframe for this target. I am thinking that is missing (unstated) target date is year 2100, but it may as well be Year 2525 .

You could be right, but by then the alarmists will claim it’s necessary to lower the temperature by 2C in order to avoid doom. It’s no coincidence that they have lowered the goal to 1.5C. It’s because the climate sensitivity has dropped to that level. Even they now believe that the temperature will at most go up by a benign 1.5C maximum. In order to keep the money rolling in they need to claim we are still doomed. How any scientist can say we can measure that without wanting to shoot himself in embarrassment is beyond me.
We need to petition our shiny new government to turn the thermostats in all government buildings down to 10C in the winter.
Especially in the CBC buildings, university buildings, and the Parliament buildings.
They can just put on a sweater!

Here’s an idea: Directly tax those who have too much in order to fix the climate. Those who most want environmental justice also happen to be those who have an inordinate amount of the world’s wealth – the so called 1%. So, mixing environmental justice and overcoming inequality just makes sense. Crony capitalists should only be allowed a small amount of profit. Executives, politicians and activists only a moderate salary and bonus package. Universities get to keep a small percentage of their endowments. Hollywood and celebrities must give up their obscene profits and wages. Make green non profit charities pay high taxes on donations. Double or triple taxes on luxury items like yachts, private airplanes, expensive homes, art, jewellery, high fashion. etc. I’m sure the Pope and Catholic Church (and other religious groups) would gladly dispose of 90% of their properties and investments to save not only Earth but also help the poor. All those ill gotten gains should be redirected to the UN’s Green Fund. Surely, that would bring in the billions needed for developing nations without burdening those who are not as rich.

Economics 101: Increase the costs for industry in one country and more production will move to facilities in lower cost countries.
How will the pipe mill in Regina compete with the pipe mills in China and India if they have to pay more for electricity and gas and face even higher taxes while their competitors in India and China will not see those same cost increases?
We will see our already cleaner mills here shut down and we will ship scrap steel to China and India in ships that burn high sulphur bunker fuels, and then they will ship the finished product back to us in ships burning high shlphur bunker fuels.
So more fossil fuels burned, more CO2, more real pollution, more acid rain, and less economic activity in Canada.

I’ve discovered a new pet project to save the environment. Building a road about 75km from Saskatchewan River Crossing AB to Blaeberry BC through the Howse Pass would save 100 km drive for everyone from Central and Northern Alberta heading into South-Central BC. Only 27 km of the route is through a national park as opposed to 120 km on the existing route.
Let’s say 1 million vehicles per year go this way – that’s 100 million km reduction of vehicle traffic. Makes too much sense so will never be done. The Howse Pass is a fairly sissy pass compared to many and presents no special obstacles.
!00 $B is a staggering sum, but that is only one year’s bill; the accord suggests an annual addition. Which developed countries are gullible enough to make such a commitment? Not the US as congress controls expenditure of taxes and no House of any political stripe will vote that amount into a UN rat hole. Canada of course would, and refer it to some international kangaroo court to make it legally binding.This is the problem we may be faced with if McKenna Dion and Jr signed away our national spending authority.

OT but interesting part of history:
the Howse Pass had been used right through the fur trade days but when surveyors picked a route for the CPR RR the Howse Pass had become overgrown and lost to history and not recognized as a better route than the steeper Kicking Horse Pass. It was an unfortunate chain of events that led to a poor choice for the CPR. Beaver Magazine had a good article about it a few years ago.

Some here might remember when a few years ago, Pachurri (sp), the UN fellow on the IPCC, closed down a steel mill/plant he owned in Great Britain, got payed for the move by the Brits for carbon reduction, and moved the plant to India. Eighteen hundred workers lost their jobs. He was just doing what Maurice Strong wanted, de-industrializing the west.
