How’s That Hopey-Changey Thing Working Out For Ya?

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Barack Obama, Feb.6th, 2011 – You know, I think that the thing you understand intellectually, but you don’t understand in your gut until you’re in the job, is that every decision that comes to my desk is something that nobody else has been able to solve. The easy stuff gets solved somewhere by somebody else. By the time it gets to me, you don’t have easy answers.
Boston Herald – The MIT economics whiz who crafted President Obama’s national health-care overhaul now plans to explain the complex and controversial plan to the masses — in one long comic book.

What We Really Need Is Democracy

With millions of voters informed by historical revisionism and conspiracy theory.

Examples are far too numerous. Here are just a few that range from the comical: deadly shark attacks in Sinai attributed to the Mossad, through to the nauseating: the usurping of Holocaust language to describe the conflict (as in the website www.shoah.org.uk), to the truly astonishing: denial of Jewish history on Temple mount. In this video from Israel’s Channel 2 news (minute 1:30, Hebrew and Arabic) the Mufti of Jerusalem claims that the recent excavations of a drainage tunnel from the Second Temple period are really Muslim artifacts and not Jewish at all – even though they date from 2000 years ago, 20 years before Jesus was born and 600 years before Mohammad took his first breath.

Detroit: Not Dead Enough!

A constant that one hears from all recovered drug addicts is that what was necessary to get them onto the path to recovery was to hit absolute rock bottom. Prior to that, denial holds too strong a grip on the brain to let them see the error of their ways.
In a not too dissimilar way, such is the case with communities that for too long have consumed the “drug” of Leftism. In this regard, Detroit, Michigan is clearly the poster child in North America for failed cities run into the ground by the policies of the Left. This earlier post on SDA and the comments therein explain this most succinctly.
Yesterday Mark Steyn guest hosted Rush Limbaugh’s radio program and had a few biting, but accurate, comments about Detroit. Some in Michigan were not pleased.
This morning Steyn appeared on Detroit radio station WLQV-AM. The full interview can be listened to and should be by all because the points raised have repercussions far beyond the hulking ruins in what was once an industrious, thriving city.

Popular Mechanics, Feb.3, 2011 –

Shell Oil has canceled its plans to drill for oil in the Beaufort Sea north of Alaska in 2011, but will now set its sights on the summer of 2012. The company has run into repeated regulatory hurdles in its attempts to explore for oil in America’s slice of the Arctic Ocean. Most recently, in late December 2010, the Environmental Appeals Board (EAB) sent air quality permits granted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) back to regulators for revision. Pete Slaiby, the VP of Shell Alaska, cited “tremendous uncertainty”—and frustration—during a press conference in Anchorage to announce the decision. The company has been seeking the required permits for the past five years.

Washington Examiner, Feb.2, 2011 –

To turn wood chips into ethanol fuel, George W. Bush’s Department of Energy in February 2007 announced a $76 million grant to Range Fuels for a cutting-edge refinery. A few months later, the refinery opened in the piney woods of Treutlen County, Ga., as the taxpayers of Georgia piled on another $6 million. In 2008, the ethanol plant was the first beneficiary of the Biorefinery Assistance Program, pocketing a loan for $80 million guaranteed by the U.S. taxpayers.
Last month, the refinery closed down, having failed to squeeze even a drop of ethanol out of its pine chips.
