He also monitored his “clients”, ensuring they were living up to court imposed conditions. Here’s the clincher … in his entire career he witnessed the “turning around” of only two offenders. One he managed to effect, and the other was the product of a persistent mother.

Progressive have been casting blame on the victim a lot more lately.
My guess is that they have begun to realize that progressives have been running our society for too long for them to blame society anymore lest the blame fall upon their own heads.
Every time we drive up McLaughlin Rd by the ‘institution’ my wife asks – why are they inside watching TV and not in the streets cleaning snow or planting trees?
Why is Canada not making (not forcing – making) its inmates work for living? They have to pay rent while inside, feed and cloth themselves. Why is that unloaded onto taxpayer?
Perhaps if those folks learned to make a living in jail, they’d had a chance to become productive members of society once out. Oh, I am forgetting – then the social workers would be unemployed. Guess nothing can be done then.

While attending the Bar Admissions course I met a guy who planned to become a Crown attorney. This seemed odd, since i knew he had worked for the last few years at a center for “trouble youth” in Toronto. He explained he had originally planned to be a defense lawyer, but after three years of experience with reality he decided he would prefer working on the other side. And he didn’t mean in a progressive kind of way…

I think that on a number of issues – crime, energy, social justice – we have to quit taking the advice from people who live in a fantasy world. Academics and special interest groups have not shown that they have the skills or experience to understand anything outside of their insulated cocoons.
