The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
I’ve never been but the Stampede holds a special place in my heart for reasons best left unexplained. It’s the only time of the year when I’ll voluntarily watch the CBC.
Hope ya’ll have a good time!
Steyn on Canada Day
From LindaL, Mark Steyn’s take on Canada’s first post-national, national celebration.
A national celebration of collective guilt is a hard act to pull off. An historical anniversary on which it’s unsafe to mention any history doesn’t leave a lot else. I tried to follow along, really I did. At one point on Saturday there was a fulsome introduction in both official languages, all about multiple Grammy awards, for Shania Twain.
Today’s Word Is ‘Hegemony’
[In a survey of the political preferences of social psychologists] there were almost as many people who chose the furthest possible point to the left as there were who chose all the conservative points, the centre-point and the most moderate left-of-centre point combined.
Uri Harris on the ideological uniformity of social science. One of these.

“An Embarassment for Germany”
Yep. I’d say the inability to effectively control the riots after so many cities have experienced the same thing is a little embarrassing.
“I can barely breathe with anger because Chancellor Merkel and Hamburg mayor (Olaf) Scholz trivialize the brutal riots as ‘not acceptable’,” wrote a commentator in Bild am Sonntag.
It’s beginning to appear that the only reasonable way to deal with these left-wing rioters is to curtail civil rights and implement a riot act when the children start acting up.

Attack on Balikpapan
This rare footage shows the epic scale of the assault, in which 3,000 tons of aerial bombs and 46,800 of naval ammunitions were used.
Turning the anger into something good….
The radicals love what Trudeau has done for Omar Khadr in our name, most normal Canadians, even Liberal voters, are outraged.
So let’s do something good with that anger. I launched this campaign late Friday, already we are at $36,000 and growing. The goal, to raise $1 million for the Speer Kids, Khadr’s victims.
I know everyone is in a different position but donating $10, $20, or thousands if you can swing it, would help.
And if you can’t donate, or have already, please share the campaign on Facebook or Twitter.

We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars
Mississippi’s state auditor on Wednesday demanded that a troubled electric car maker or its leader repay $4.9 million in state and local aid the company received, plus $1.5 million of interest.
Auditor Stacey Pickering issued the demand to GreenTech Automotive and its CEO, Charles Wang, saying the company has failed to live up to pledges to invest $60 million and create 350 jobs in Tunica County, just south of Memphis, Tennessee.
GreenTech once planned to build 250,000 cars a year and invest $2 billion, but first sharply downsized its goals, and then failed to meet them, authorities said. In a July 2011 agreement, GreenTech promised to invest $60 million and hire 350 full-time workers by the end of 2014, paying each at least $35,000 and maintaining those jobs for at least 10 years.

DBRS downgrades Alberta’s long-term outlook to negative.
“Moreover, the Province has yet to provide a credible plan to restore balance. While Alberta’s debt burden is low and the economy is showing signs of recovery, the fiscal plan demonstrates a lack of willingness to contain debt growth, which is likely to lead to a one-notch downgrade of the long-term ratings,” the agency’s statement said.

When the bosses said make it warm, “scientists” at NOAA, NASA and Hadley CRU asked, “How high?”
“Thus, it is impossible to conclude from the three published GAST data sets that recent years have been the warmest ever – despite current claims of record setting warming,” according to a study published June 27 by two scientists and a veteran statistician.
The peer-reviewed study tried to validate current surface temperature datasets managed by NASA, NOAA and the UK’s Met Office, all of which make adjustments to raw thermometer readings. Skeptics of man-made global warming have criticized the adjustments.

Culture War
Even before Breitbart’s warning there was Orwell who understood that the Left’s ultimate ability was to uproot the past and plant their chosen seed for the future. His famous dictum “he who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past” is an unsurpassed indictment of groupthink totalitarianism. There seemed no doubt they would succeed. Within its bubble the Left’s control of culture is so absolute they can watch 1984 without realizing it’s about them.
Yet the real mystery — one which even Orwell himself did not anticipate — is why, despite having won every culture battle, the Left has lost the war. Look around you. Every single country which adopted socialism as an economic system went bankrupt. The Soviet Union collapsed. Now the Western Gramscian project is self-immolating in the fires of its own absurdity. The current political crisis is the collective shudder of mortality passing through “every university, newspaper, TV network, Hollywood studio, publisher, education school and museum in the nation”. The left may have “wrapped up the culture war two generations ago” but it is rotting inside the wrapping.
