Corporate Canada’s Useful Idiot in Ottawa…

Might I suggest Mark J Carney take some advise about temporary foreign workers from his old boss?  He might learn a thing or two

“Evidence began to accumulate that many temporary foreign workers were being hired for entry-level jobs that unemployed or underemployed Canadians might be doing, in sectors from fast-food to retail, sometimes even in regions of high unemployment. Jason Kenney, then minister of immigration, pointed out that this was surely driving down the wages of lower-income Canadians – and despite the demands of some employers, lower market wages should not be an objective of government policy.” – Globe & Mail, Aug 28th 2016

Nuclear power development for Saskatchewan

The reason we use electric lights instead of candles is because they WORK BETTER. They were not mandated or forced upon the public by the government, nor was the sale candles banned. The statement that conservatives oppose technology is ludicrous. It would no different than saying a member of the liberal party was against computers or the internet.

Dispatches from the Maple Gulag Truck Stop

Gord Magill talks about the recent illegal U-turn in Florida that killed 3 people.

I don’t think the general public realizes just how stringently the trucking industry can be governed”.

Truckers get tickets for not having their Schedule 1  – a document listing items to check during vehicle inspections – with in arms reach of the driver while seated in the driver’s seat. It’s also illegal to read it while driving. This law also applies to Transportation of Dangerous Goods handbooks. Having the documents in you truck and being in compliance is not enough, you must also have it beside you at all times. Tickets start at $300. Forgetting to sign a bill of lading is another big ticket and the in the US they tear up your oversize permit, put you out of service and issue enormous fines if you make the mistake of signing your oversize permit in black ink instead of blue, as  all legal documents must be signed in a contrasting colour of ink from the document. Yes, it is that ridiculous. However…

If you are not fluent in english, have multiple violations and show little or no competence behind the wheel all is forgive. The trucking industry in North America has become the biggest victim of the 2 things all governments love: Revenue and virtue signalling.

Gord Magil has been all over the media talking about this tragedy and what caused it. Check Gord calling out everyone responsible. He takes no prisoners.

Traffic at a standstill in Hawaii, no thanks to Oprah.

Hawaii live cam. Should arrive around 1am Eastern.

Ryan Hall: This is what a real tsunami looks like. Over 2 meters of vertical displacement measured at Midway, a huge signal for deep water. Waves like this amplify near shore. Hawaii and other Pacific coasts: this one’s not minor.

Has AI Been Overhyped?

Turns out that AI may not be the replacement to mankind that we’ve been told it is:

The buzz about AI coding tools is unrelenting. To listen to the reports, startups are launching with tiny engineering teams, non-programmers are “vibe-coding” entire apps, and the job market for entry-level programmers is crashing. But according to a METR experiment conducted in the spring of 2025, there’s at least one cohort that AI tools still aren’t serving.

METR performed a rigorous study (blog post, full paper) to measure the productivity gain provided by AI tools for experienced developers working on mature projects. The results are surprising everyone: a 19 percent decrease in productivity. Even the study participants themselves were surprised: they estimated that AI had increased their productivity by 20 percent. If you take away just one thing from this study, it should probably be this: when people report that AI has accelerated their work, they might be wrong!

What the actual?

Put Your Trust In The Experts

SciTech Daily: In a follow-up investigation into the multibillion-dollar drug ticagrelor, The BMJ has identified new concerns.

For more than a decade, the multibillion dollar drug ticagrelor (Brilinta in the US and Brilique in Europe) has been recommended in the treatment of patients with acute coronary syndrome. As generic versions of the antiplatelet drug prepare to launch this year, The BMJ has investigated the evidence underpinning the drug’s approval and continued use. In our first story we revealed serious data integrity problems in the PLATO study, the 18 000 patient randomised trial that brought ticagrelor to market.1

The BMJ now turns its attention to two key supporting AstraZeneca studies that convinced doctors of ticagrelor’s ability to rapidly and consistently inhibit platelets—critical for managing patients following percutaneous coronary intervention. Our investigation was based on interviews with trial investigators and platelet experts and access to the underlying trial data submitted to regulators, as well as readouts from laboratory equipment used in the studies. We found evidence that the trials were inaccurately reported. In one instance AstraZeneca’s trial failed to show statistical significance, but was published in a leading cardiology journal as significant. Extraordinarily, most investigators, including the principal investigator and the drug company, were unreachable or declined to be interviewed. The findings raise even deeper questions over the approval and decade long use of the drug.

When The Elbows Go Up In A Forest

And nobody cares.

A couple things going under the radar:

Back in February, the oil refineries in the US started a slow turn. Margin refineries (these are the ones that go about 50/50 Heavy crude/ Light sweet crude) started moving towards Light sweet crude. Decisions were being made for future alterations. Canada provides about 70% of their Heavy Crude for US refining. However, there is a slow move towards refining light sweet crude which is the US basic resource. It’s an expensive switch, and a slow moving one. But, that’s the trend.

Now, today, Marco Rubio (and Trump) announced the end of the war in the Congo with Rwanda. That’s sort of a peripheral issue no one can really relate to as directly effecting us here. However, take a look at the primary export of Rwanda (and keep in mind that Trump and Rubio usually approach these conflicts economically). The primary export is Niobium. This is a chemical used to strengthen stainless steel. It is used primarily to harden oil pipelines and well structures. Just saying. Negotiating positions are ALWAYS fluid.

The Great Ship Chinada

Cruise Mapper;

The new cruiseferry of STENA LINE has been taken off the Holyhead-Dublin route for repairs and maintenance due to engine problems – just 4 months after entering service. The ship Stena Estrid (building cost EUR 185 million) started on the route in January 2020 after being built at China’s AVIC Weihai Shipyard performing its maiden voyage as Storm Brendan raged.

Via Harman Bhangu;

The Stena Estrid broke down just months after launch—engine failure, pulled off route, major delays.

It was built at AVIC Weihai Shipyard—now called China Merchants Jinling, the same state-owned yard the NDP just hired to build BC’s new ferries.

Eby is outsourcing billions to a shipyard with a track record of breakdowns—and ties to China’s military-industrial complex.

The right people got paid, that’s all that matters.

Minnesota Democrat Politician and Her Husband Shot

Tragic news out of Minnesota:

Evans says another call was placed to police at 03:35, when officers were proactively checking on Democratic politician Melissa Hortman.
