This new strategy of perpetuating hate against seniors wasn’t on my Liberal policy bingo card, but here we are.
Empty Promises
I’ll believe it when I see it. “Senior government officials” were likely waiting to backpedal at precisely the moment the announcement was made.
Canada definitely plans to move forward with the purchase of new submarines, the federal government announced on the margins of the NATO Summit on Wednesday.
Up to now, the government has spoken only about the possibility of replacing the aging Victoria-class boats. But in the face of mounting criticism of Canada’s defence spending by allies — notably the United States — Ottawa has given the proposal the green light.
A senior government official, speaking on background, said they could not confirm how much the plan will cost, how many boats will be purchased or when they will arrive.
Your House Is Too Big
Anti-Taxxer- I watched this entire 34 minute video so you didn’t have to. It starts with the usual land acknowledgment blah blah blah and is rather boring. There is a lot of newspeak which confuses home equity with housing equity. But at the 19 minute mark Justin Trudeau drops this bomb.
“I Wish That I Had Never Met You,”
I know the feeling.
Sun- Yet another former cabinet minister blasts Trudeau
That Trudeau doesn’t seek advice from ministers, including his foreign affairs minister, shouldn’t be shocking to anyone paying attention. While Stephen Harper had regular formal and informal meetings with ministers, that’s not Trudeau’s style.
In the early years of the Trudeau government when they leaned heavy on the idea that “Canada is back,” Trudeau met with his then foreign affairs minister Stephane Dion just once in 14 months on the job.

Abacus Data- What is Motivating Voting Preferences in Canada?
The top issues of concerns for Canadians remain consistent with our tracking over the past two years. The cost of living remains the largest issue facing more Canadians (71%), followed by housing affordability and accessibility (46%), healthcare (42%), the economy (33%), and immigration (27%). In total, 86% of Canadians put either the cost of living or housing as a top issue.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced that he might start buying up hotels to house the surge of refugee claimants.
Miller said the move would reduce costs associated with long-term hotel bookings, which is one of the government’s current strategies.
Currently, Ottawa is funding approximately 4,000 hotel rooms for 7,300 asylum seekers, many transferred from provincial shelters and churches, as reported in the Globe and Mail.
“Despite efforts to stabilize the number of asylum claimants, these numbers aren’t going down drastically anytime soon,” Miller said.
The Immigration Minister further said the Liberals’ latest strategy to buy up hotels could include federal and provincial officials to provide services on-site.
From February 2023 to February 2024, over $100 million was spent putting up refugee claimants in Niagara Falls hotels alone.
Do not fear. He has a way to pay for it.

The Libranos: Et Tu, Brutus?
Steven Guilbeault has been taking the temperature of the Liberal Party caucus as calls for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation mount.
The environment minister was in Toronto this week to meet with Members of Parliament who were awestruck by Monday’s upset defeat in the Toronto–St Paul’s byelection. He spent Thursday working the phones with Liberals across the country trying to take stock of how bad things really are…

“Sikh Canadians were viewed as a key voting bloc for the governing Liberals in several ridings.”
Well, we are a post-national country.
Trudeau’s former defence minister Harjit Sajjan redirected resources away from saving Canadians and Afghan collaborators during the disastrous 2021 pullout from Afghanistan, instructing special forces to rescue 225 Sikhs instead.

Fallout: Party unity in shambles.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller says the federal government will not yet be pursuing a potential federal program that would give immigrants in Canada illegally the right to stay amid backlash within its own party.
Miller presented the proposed program to cabinet last week, which was met with strong opposition from some MPs, the minister said in an interview with the Globe and Mail.

Calgary Herald- Canada’s ‘productivity emergency’ called the most widespread in history outside the pandemic
Outside of Quebec and Ontario, gross domestic product per person is not only lower than before the pandemic, it is lower than the peak in 2014-15.
“That means many people outside our two biggest provinces feel worse off today than they did 10 years ago,” he said.

Shortly after Dattani was appointed to lead the [Canadian Human Rights Commission] in mid-June, National Post learned that in 2015 he had shared the stage with a member of an Islamic fundamentalist group and repeatedly lectured during “Israel Apartheid Week” at British universities about the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. According to a Government of Canada factsheet, attempts to boycott and sanction Israel are one of its six core examples of antisemitism.
Shimon Fogel, the long-standing president of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), told the Post that the organization is “deeply concerned” about Dattani’s appointment given that he “has directly associated with individuals and groups affiliated with listed terror entities and has a history of making highly troubling antisemitic statements.” Fogel saw Dattani’s ascension to head the CHRC as underscoring “a crisis of confidence” with the body that “undermines our confidence in the Commission’s ability to adjudicate issues of hate and discrimination.”
Fogel said the controversy calls into question the justice ministry’s vetting process.
No, it doesn’t. He was exactly the kind of diversity hire they were looking for.

National Post- The Liberal war on fish farming threatens Indigenous livelihoods
According to Kitasoo Xai’Xais Deputy Chief Councillor Isaiah Robinson, his community has enjoyed 99 per cent employment because of the salmon farming industry, which generates 51 percent of their income.
“Because of the work and dignity that comes with the salmon farming industry, we have had no suicides in my community of Klemtu for the past 18 years,” wrote Robinson in an open letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month. “It makes no sense to shut it down. There is no industry that can fill that space.”

The catering costs had previously been pegged closer to $180K but a response to an order paper question in the House of Commons reveals the final tally was $223,234.
Meals on-board the plane included beef brisket with mashed parsley potatoes with truffle oil, pan fried beef tenderloin with port wine sauce, braised lamb shanks with steamed broccoli and boiled baby potatoes, and baked cheesecake with pistachio brittle.

Blacklocks- Claims It Was Secret Mission
Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit of the Margaret Brooke was a routine courtesy call “on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of our uninterrupted diplomatic relations” with Canada. Minister Blair yesterday insisted there was a secret military purpose.
“How could the Margaret Brooke be a deterrent?” asked a reporter. “Presence is deterrence,” replied Blair. “We were present.”

Blacklocks- Doctors Have Plenty: Minister
Doctors have “huge advantages under our tax system” and can afford to pay more, Health Minister Mark Holland said yesterday. His remarks followed a warning from the Canadian Medical Association that changes to capital gains tax rates would cost most doctors nationwide.
“A doctor still has huge advantages under our tax system to be able to use incorporation as a tax deferral vehicle,” Minister Holland testified at the Commons health committee. Cabinet has served notice effective June 25 it will tax 66 percent of capital gains from the current 50 percent, an $18 billion increase.
