Gerald Stanley Case

Brian Zinchuk, Battlefords News-Optimist;

In following the commentary and news coverage afterwards, it has become apparent that several myths have arisen on both sides of the affair, and some things that should be considered.
Let’s begin by noting the chief justice of Saskatchewan’s Court of Queens Bench chose to assign himself as the judge for this case. That’s right from the top. If anyone should be expected to ensure a fair trial, one would think it would be the chief justice of province.
Much has been made of the all-white jury. But the calling of 750 potential jurors of a jury pool is extraordinary. That was a deliberate attempt by the court to provide as wide a jury pool as possible, and certainly larger than anything I encountered. That just a sliver of those potential jurors showed up is a reflection that many people, including First Nations people, did not wish to put in an effort for this case. Perhaps if all, or even most, of those 750 people showed up, given the local demographics and substantial Indigenous population, it would have been impossible for the defence to challenge them all people of visible minorities. There would have been too many.

Sask Party Leadership Convention

And the choice for a new Premier following the retirement of Brad Wall.

8,500 votes are needed to win, on to the next rounds. Looks like a horse race.

With that, the card-carrying federal Liberal is dropped from the ballot.
Round four and the lead changes.

The new Premier Designate of Saskatchewan is Scott Moe.

Burstall Evacuated — an Update

The Sask Stock Growers have launched a wildfire relief fund;

“We’re collecting donations of cash, hay, feed, trucking – whatever people can offer,” said SSGA President Shane Jahnke. “The fires destroyed animals, buildings, fields, feed and everything else in their way. Miles of fencing were destroyed. With winter coming, there’s a lot of people who need help.”
The most recent fires near Burstall, Leader, and Tompkins on October 17 were propelled by strong winds, and advanced quickly across fields and grasslands. Another fire near Glentworth in early September also caused extensive damage.
Tens of thousands of acres were burnt in the fires, and close to a million dollars worth of livestock died in the fires or had to be euthanized. “Some producers have lost over half their herds,” Jahnke said.

Visit The TC Douglas Building While You Still Can

Cleanse the name of eugenicist Tommy Douglas from every building; revise every text book.

Don’t suggest, don’t simply raise his moral failings and sketchy associations as a debating point, because the left doesn’t debate — they only advance.
So, just cleanse.. Now.
And no, I’m not joking. Make them scream, make them rage and ultimately, make them play by their own rules: make them defend the preservation of their own offensive monuments to their own deplorable histories.
