Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Finally! Canada is #1 again.
The Conservative Party plan…
https://www.conservative.ca/cpc/stop-taxing-groceries/
Well … there goes the Canadian budget. How will your nation pay for all your DEI initiatives now? … if you don’t take food off Canadian tables to do it!?
I’m pretty sure Canada is #2…
Ah, starts with P and rhymes with 2.
If those are the reported inflation numbers, you know the real numbers are much worse (this may not change the rankings).
There is jiggery-pokery going on, with how StatsCanada picks their “Basket of Goods” to come to their answer og 6.1%
https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1810024502 gives you the monthly average retail prices for 106 different food products, but it also appears that some of those prices are on crack, because I haven’t seen 650ml of pasta sauce for under $4 in a year.
well those who voted for THE ELBOWS UP GUY are probably really happy…….Carnage Carney is just NOT UP FOR THE JOB………..we tried telling the elbows up crowd….BUT WHAT THE HECK DO WE KNOW?????
“well those who voted for THE ELBOWS UP GUY are probably really happy…”
Gee, if memory serves me correctly, they were all “elbows up” guys.
Not surprising. The industrial carbon tax, high income/business taxes, high fuel taxes, high property taxes, low dollar, government rules and regulations overburden and food cartels are all factors that make food prices higher in Canada than other countries. It’s a viscous spiral caused mainly by government mismanagement of the economy.
In other words – Everything is going as planned.
Have we hugged a Liberal today?
Since everything has essentially doubled since 2021, I’ll say the real inflation rate is 20%. Hasn’t slowed down here at all.
So why did Trump want Carnage instead of PP?
I won’t vote for PP but he’s a giant step above Carnage.
Why? Because DJT knew Carnage was a pussy and can be pushed around. That’s clear.
And yes, like it or not, hold your nose and vote PP or else you get a lot more Carnage, literally and figuratively. With his suckholing, knee bending, allegiance to Xi, that should make things perfectly clear.
Well … Trump chose the winning side, didn’t he? He knows who the Canadian people are, how they think, and how they hate America … so just like Trump initiates friendship with Fascist Dictators around the world such as Kim Jong-un. Trump treats his friendship of Carney … the same way he befriends Kim Jong-un.
Both Canada’s Liberal and so-called Conservative candidates clearly expressed their HATRED for Trump. So why shouldn’t Trump pick the inning side to befriend? Gotta manage those elbows.
?
jeez kenji youse makin’ me feel traitorous since l dont share the common view in Canaduh.
right from tjhe start l pegged President Trump as a VERY successful BUSINESSMAN firsgt and a temporary politician far distant second. thus the brashness, the bluntness, the lack of euphemisms and diplomatic approach. especiall now when he knows its his last term in office.
ah, but, overtures here and there, learning from the mistakes of his first term, his STELLAR cabinet.
etc etc. yo leftoidals, a succesfull B USINESSMAN first and l agree with the assessment the ‘arms length’ stuff probably means from where he was at, the serving as president COST him money (well, more precisely prevented him from earning more) but he DID IT out of love and concern for that geographic area that gave him the ample time and opportunity to be successful (ya, thats a clichee but true).
and furthermore there was NO APPRECIABLE INCENTIVE for him to ‘follow the mold’ and use the office to *become* a multimillionaire in the footstep george herber walker, george dubya and his entourage, oBOMBa, both clintons, etc etc bla bla bla
also, final point, NO ONE is perfect except the guy they murdered on that cross)
Until porridge and shredded wheat double in price, the LIEberal Boomers just won’t get it.
Their OJ already has as well as coffee. Think a clue stick could wake them from their stupor?
The price of beef is terrible and destructive. One has to be an absolute sleuth to find deals, or lesser known cuts that aren’t appreciated but are terrific,
As far as coffee, WTF?
Found. 930g Nabob for $21 on sale and grabbed it. Saw it elsewhere for $35? This was $15, 5 years ago. MH, not the best coffee, could be had for $6 in 2020. Now it’s $20. Nuts.
We’ve cut back but added fresh ground beans for a cuppa cappuccino instead. One cup and your ON.
I’m a Red River porridge fan! Gooooo Canada cereal!!!
Oh … wait … it was bought out by Smuckers. Nevermind.
Red River Cereal is now produced by Arva Flour Mill, just north of London, ON.
https://arvaflourmills.com
They also reverted to the original recipe. We have it regularly
Ahhhh … sold off again. Happy to know it’s still being produced! Back to the original no less! Love it!
Thank you for … gently … correcting me, without bashing me. As opposed to a certain other stalker here.
Stalker supremo checking in.
As written, “certain other stalker” can only refer to ImpMaFrei, which I assume is not your intention.
Well, that’s enough gentle bashing of your poor English language skills.
It’s time to write him a “dear stalker” letter, like Sherlock Homes wrote to his haberdasher…
Let’s face it.
Notwithstanding the fact the Amerks, the Chinese or the Slammers will eventually take over; it’s going to take one HELL of a Depression to fix Canada.
That is the only way to effect the Government cuts required to stop 1984 with a French flavor.
Along with unbroken Liberal Government so even the dumbest Canadian (by far the biggest cohort) can see who is responsible, despite our crooked ^%#$@&* Media.
I’m a bit cloudy on how anyone can determine inflation on food products exclusively. The formula used to track the consumer price index is not a valid evaluation of that singular issue. BUT, that is going to be more responsive to costs. Such as Gas prices go down (which they have in the US, significantly). The distributor now has lower costs to get the food to the retailer. Presumably, the retailer will then lower prices to compete with another retailer in the area.
A bit later, manufacturers will respond to this process by (possibly) returning their product net weight to what it was previous. As an example, pasta manufacturers were cutting pasta just a tiny percentage short, then lowering the net weight on the product container, but keeping the cost the same. It takes longer for them to re-adjust, if they choose to do so at all. Inflation determination on food products isn’t necessarily accurate. It’s overall process costing that shows visible price alterations, IMO.
Anecdotally, I am a creature of habit, and generally purchase the same groceries each trip with some minor differences. I can say that my last trip to the grocery store was about 20% less than I had gotten used to over the last 5 years. Additionally, I have two large grocery store chains within driving distance that compete. As a result, on Tuesdays, one will lower prices storewide to pull business from the other. The other chain joined to battle and does the same on Thursdays. So, you can guess when everyone shops.
Grocery prices are a bit like Global Warming temperatures. The daily fluctuation of temps are WAY greater than any scary long term temperature trends.
I only BUY the true SALE items at Safeway. And I also buy a rather narrow set of staple foods (I’m much more adventurous with meats and produce). For example: I JUST bought 6 bottles of Ken’s salad dressing ON SALE which I regularly buy at the REAL sale price of $2.49/bottle. The regular price is $3.59/bottle (or more) … that’s a 31% difference in price! (or more).
So how do the long term grocery stats reflect these DAILY fluctuations in price? I don’t really give a shite about government inflation statistics. Kitchen table economics is ALL that matters to me. It’s called SURVIVAL. I don’t pay RETAIL … whenever it can be avoided. That’s how to deal with inflation. Simply DON’T buy it till the price falls. Not rocket science. But you must be a knowledgeable shopper. You must know what those daily price fluctuations are in reality.
Stats Canada is given access to pricing information at the register for 106 items, which they then average. After that, it’s all jiggery pokery to come up with the food inflation number
I used to think it was quaint watching my inlaws look through the flyers!
Given current pricing of many items, I now read the flyers rather thoroughly and sometimes stock up and freeze good deals! You can get decent pricing via Amazon too.
^^^ 100% ^^^
I swear … in my idle old age … I’m gonna start clipping coupons!
Presenting the results for one month isn’t very useful. Here’s Canada’s food inflation over the last year:
https://tradingeconomics.com/canada/food-inflation
As you can see, it’s been a little over 3% over most of 2025.
As you can see, it’s been a little over 3% over most of 2025.
Horse shit. Triple that, minimum. Rib steaks, up >$5/lb over last summer. Milk, up nearly a buck/4 litres. Potato chips, up a buck/bag. Ground beef, up $2/lb. Italian sausages, up $1.25/pack. And that’s only a few items that quickly come to mind. Our weekly grocery bills have gone up ~$20, from around $130 to around $150.
And the price of bananas has been $.89/lb forever. You can’t cherry pick items and draw conclusions from that. Beef has gone way up, chicken has not.
https://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=chicken&months=360¤cy=cad#google_vignette
Correction: here in the SF Bay Area anyway … Chicken went WAY UP … because bird flu or something … and now has come down. Beef has been SKY HIGH … but per my comment above … I just bought Beef short ribs for $4.99//lb … whereas they’re ALWAYS $12.99/lb. Buy the sales … and you can’t work around the long term Bidenflation.
If you don’t have freezer and pantry space … you’re screwed.
In Canada the effect of the bird flu was pretty minor. Unless you’re an ostrich.
Funny fact: I was watching a Youtube video that discussed Carney’s New World Order comment. At the top of the comment section there was a little information bubble (you know the ones Youtube posts to ensure you are not being disinformed). It was from Wikipedia and stated that the New World Order was a right wing conspiracy theory. Please somebody go tell Carney.
