  1. this is off topic but it is amazing how stupid liberals can be. Several comments from the left about the 9 million dollars worth of stock options the former CEO of Hydro one is getting. Somebody should tell these morons that Wynne put that deal together and that the 9 million is not being paid by government but by the sale of the stock on the stock market. Being a liberal means you are unable to think clearly or comprehend anything.

    1. The Hydro One CEO only got those stock options because he was a made man in the Librano crime family.

There were only stock options because the Libranos preferred to sell Ontario’s birthright to the Chinese oligarchy rather than force their supporters to pay for the utter neglect of Ontario’s energy industry over the years.

Queen’s Park needs money? The teachers’ unions have a pot of nearly $200 billion to pay for their fat pensions, all stolen from taxpayers. Take it all, and tell them to figure out how to survive on CPP benefits and the kindness of their children, like normal people have to do.

  2. So I suppose Scheer and Goodale will be standing up to defend Saskatchewan, right?

  3. Saskatchewan estimates that a carbon tax will reduce GDP by 2.4%. If that is true then Canada’s GDP would drop by $50 billion. It’s tough to grow the economy by deficit spending when you are shooting yourself in the other foot with a carbon tax.

Regarding the CEO of Hydro One and his options… Hydro One is a public company. The options awarded to the CEO would have to be declared as income in the year they were awarded. He would then have to pay tax on any increase (he would get a break of 50% on the gain, but he would still have to pay the tax in the year the options were issued. The share price of Hydro One has really only gone down since the company went public. This means the real value of his options were determined by the value set on the company when it was private, or that he was granted options at a nominal value. The real smoking gun would be the number of shares he purchased in the shell company that Hydro One became when it was first set up. These founder shares are usually granted at a tenth to a hundredth of the go public price so he could own millions of shares that are worth $19 each (the current trading price) that he purchased for $0.19 (price when the shell company was formed). He could be sitting on a nest egg of tens of millions of dollars. This would explain his pleasure at quitting so easily.

Hydro One has $6.5 billion in annual revenue, pays $700 million in dividends, showed a $700 million profit and has long term debt obligations of $20+ billion (25 times annual gross profit).

Hydro One issues Performance Stock Units (PSUs) and Deferred Stock Units (DSUs). I’m a bit rusty on these but they are certainly not options. With options there is a strike price. The strike price for Hydro One was $20.15 (higher than the stock price for most of its short history). It is unlikely that the CEO can earn $9-10 million from options. It is more likely he received DSUs and PSUs (free stock). If so, this stock is his and complaining about him walking away with $10 million is incorrect. He was awarded that money in 2015, 2016, and 2017 but has deferred the tax by not selling them. Also, options can be lost when someone leaves a company in as little as 45 days. The CEO would not exercise options at a strike price of $20.15 if the stock is trading at $19.50.

  4. Good that Sask has done this analysis and that it is being publicized — at least by the Rebel. I was very put off by the CBC about 3 weeks ago. It was during the period when the Opposition was attempting to get the government to reveal their numbers re cost to the country of a carbon tax. They had a woman from a university on — essentially explaining that it is difficult to get exact numbers and why. Fair enough. We understand that. But I think the issue would be that we deserve to know what the government expects the cost to be and what numbers did they have in hand as they made their decision. This was being debated in Parliament at the time and the (always there to defend the Liberals) CBC essentially broadcasts a piece that could be construed as apologizing for the Liberals not being forthcoming. I do not watch the CBC often, so it is annoying to bump into their bias, almost every time. Hope they give some publicity to the Sask analysis. If Ontario did a similar analysis, we would see some public push back on the carbon tax, I am sure.

  5. What ever number some economist or professor comes up with multiply it by at least 10 and you will be getting close to the real cost of this robbery they call a carbon tax.The trucking fuel hauling produce, beer ,you name it will be in the billions .

  6. Carbon Tax just another stupid idea from some dim-wit like Trudeau i mean i see Seattle has leaved a Soda tax dispite many cities of have rejected a soda tax there needs to be a Stipidity Tax for idiots like Trudeau to pay

  7. The carbon tax will be settled by Canadians in the coming election. The libranos promoting/defending the tax and the conservatives on the other side.
Given the choice of taxing ourselves I’m betting the carbon tax is headed for the dust bin.

  8. Don’t be silly. Carbon Taxes fund the NEW economy. An economy where PEOPLE are prioritized over PROFITS. Where our means of energy production are healthy for all living things, and are sustain-able for generations to come. What price are you willing to pay for health and virtue? What price are you willing to pay for your grandchildren’s health? And why do you Western capitalists believe that you should live in a domicile without having to wear a sweater AND a jacket? The native peoples never did. D’ya think you’re “better” than the First Peoples ? I’ll bet you do …

See how EASY it is to be an eco-leftist. Just spout forth some nonsensical diatribe about ‘feelings’ … and you WIN!

  9. How much did the decision to stop service in Western Canada by Grey hound was due to increased regulations and the carbon tax??

  10. Saskatchewan is taking the correct approach as is Doug Ford, refuse to cooperate and make trudeau impose his tax.
Let juthtin be the face of this tax grab alone.

  11. What I don’t get and what everyone else seems to have missed about Justin’s Carbon Tax.

Is it resembles the old “Manufacture’s Tax” that was replaced by Mulroney’s GST.
As I recall it was a hidden tax that raised the prices of everything, manufacture’s paid it and raised prices to cover their costs.

All Canadians need to be reminded of what and why we have the GST and why taxes like the manufacture’s tax were and still are evil by design.

Why aren’t conservatives hammering the libs with this?
Why can’t they raise their (ill gotten booty) by adding 2 or 3 percent to the GST?
    Oh wait… never mind.
