The federal government is planning to spend $486.9 billion this year. Nearly half a trillion dollars. Of that, $222.9 billion needs Parliament’s approval. The rest? $264 billion is already baked in. It’s called “statutory spending,” and it’s automatic. No debate. No vote. No accountability. Ottawa wrote itself a blank cheque—and keeps cashing it, year after year.

Now here’s the headline no one wants to talk about: $49.1 billion of that spending goes just to service the debt.

Telegraph- Britain’s pubs are being ‘taxed out of existence’

There were more than 60,000 pubs in Britain at the turn of the millennium, but today that number has fallen by a quarter to 45,000, according to the BBPA. Publicans have had to put up with steeper taxes, the pandemic lockdowns, surging energy prices and, most recently, Rachel Reeves’s hike in National Insurance contributions on employers, which has pushed up staff costs. The BBPA estimates that £1 in every £3 taken at the bar goes straight to the taxman: of the surviving pubs and bars, one-third are operating at a loss as a result of being so heavily taxed, the UK Hospitality trade group reckons.

Latest FBI Revelations Show The Mueller Special Counsel Was A Cover-Up, And Much More

Last Wednesday, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, released a recently declassified FBI “Electronic Communication,” or EC, dating from September 2019, which the Iowa Republican maintains “Proves Fusion GPS Contractor Nellie Ohr Lied To Congress About Contributions To Crossfire Hurricane.” That 43-page document, drafted by a FBI Washington Field Office agent, detailed extensive evidence indicating Nellie Ohr lied multiple times during her congressional testimony concerning the Crossfire Hurricane investigation into the Trump campaign.

The catalogue of evidence against Nellie Ohr, who is married to Bruce Ohr — one of the key FBI Russia-collusion hoaxers — raises the question of why the DOJ never pursued criminal charges against the Fusion GPS contractor. The EC also suggests that Nellie Ohr’s open-source research may have made its way into the Steele dossier and the fraudulent Alfa Bank materials provided to the FBI.

Those details, however, pale in comparison to two explosive facts the EC revealed by way of background. First, the EC explained the FBI’s Sentinel case management system allows investigative material to be coded “Prohibited Access,” which renders the files not merely inaccessible to other agents — but invisible to them. And second, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team designated the Trump/Russia-collusion investigations “Prohibited Access” in Sentinel, meaning any agents running keyword search in Sentinel would wrongly believe there were no responsive documents.

BREAKING: In a letter sent today, @AGPamBondi informed the American Bar Association that they will no longer enjoy “special access to judicial nominees.” The ABA will no longer be granted waivers allowing the ABA access to non-public information, and judicial nominees will no longer respond to questionnaires by the ABA or sit for interviews with the ABA.

Bondi explained: “…the ABA no longer functions as a fair arbiter of nominees’ qualifications, and its ratings invariably and demonstrably favor nominees put forth by Democratic administrations.”

National Post- The first Carney spending numbers are out, and they’re as bad Trudeau’s

The Main Estimates suggest that message of restraint fell on deaf ears in Ottawa: total budgeted spending is scheduled to rise 7.75 per cent to $486.9 billion this fiscal year across 130 federal organizations (compared to last year’s Main Estimates). The government will ask Parliament to vote on $222.9 billion of spending measures, a 14 per cent increase on last year’s estimates.

The most egregious spending appears to be on consultants.

A costly program to computerize records of cross-border freight trucks saw the Canada Border Services Agency flooded with so much information it was “impossible for them to analyze all of the data,” says an internal report. It was the second time in six years that auditors questioned the eManifest program.

A total 99 percent of truckers complied, said the report Evaluation of eManifest. The resulting flood of information overwhelmed Customs officers.

Globe and Mail- Canada Post should phase out door-to-door delivery as part of overhaul, report recommends

Canada Post has lost at least $3-billion since 2018, driven by a drop in letter mail volume. In January, it received a $1.034-billion loan from the federal government to help cover operations this year.

In its latest annual report, Canada Post said “at least $1-billion will also be needed in 2026 and each year afterward to maintain operations and meet our employee obligations.”
