Why don’t countries use the tax system to enforce immigration. No work permit, no tax deduction for employee wages. No work permit, tax on wages withheld at the top tax rate. That double whammy would ensure no illegal immigrant employees. Note the only reason for immigration is to drive down wages for poor people.
That would require that the government was actually interested in controlling immigration, which they have repeatedly shown they are not. 800k in the first 4 months begs the question of what the actual numbers were last year.
