He Admires Their Basic Dictatorship

As our press and politicians poke about in their navels searching for racists;

While the rest of the world has been paralyzed by COVID-19, a virus the Communist Party’s cover-up helped to spread, China has been busy.

The draft decision to usurp Hong Kong’s freedom is merely the latest power play that takes advantage of the distraction caused by the pandemic.

Beijing has also increased its efforts to dominate the South China Seas, through which 30 per cent of the world’s shipping trade travels, by creating two new administrative districts to govern islands in the Spratly and Paracel chains that are also claimed by Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. The neighbourhood bully has made it known that any resistance will be crushed – a People’s Liberation Army ship aimed its gun control director at a Filipino anti-submarine corvette earlier this year.

The dismembering of Hong Kong’s Basic Law is hardly more subtle. […]

Trudeau sounded as if he still believes mollification is the way to go when he said on Monday that “it will be important for the Chinese government to engage in constructive conversations with the citizen of Hong Kong.”

Does he really imagine the Communist Party is willing to engage in constructive conversations with anyone these days?

Tough Questions for Biden and for China that the Western Media Won’t Ask

While the Soviet Union murdered and oppressed hundreds of millions of people, much of the Western media and Leftists refused to ever criticize the oppressors. They never stopped criticizing American Republicans but the Soviet leaders were off limits. “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”. It looks like we’re now about to see history repeating itself with the Communist Chinese Party deeply oppressing the people of Hong Kong. Watch as the same usual suspects refuse to criticize this oppression. In fact, they’ll probably be calling anyone who does a racist.

The End Of Hong Kong

The Atlantic;

Over the course of April and throughout May, while much of the world’s attention was trained on the coronavirus’s spiraling death toll, hardly a day passed in Hong Kong without news of arrested activists, scuffles among lawmakers, or bombastic proclamations from mainland officials. Long-standing norms were done away with at dizzying speed. […]

The moves were capped this week when China’s National People’s Congress announced that it would force wide-ranging national-security laws on Hong Kong in response to last year’s prodemocracy protests. In doing so, Beijing circumvented the city’s autonomous legislative process and began dismantling the “one country, two systems” framework under which Hong Kong is governed, setting up what will likely be a fundamental shift in the territory’s freedoms, its laws, and how it is recognized internationally.

Decouple from this wretched country now. If it means they take Vancouver and our universities with them, so be it.

Bought and paid for;

Three years ago, Amnesty International Canada and the Canadian Coalition on Human Rights in China warned the federal government about Chinese intimidation and harassment of Canadian human rights activists on home soil.

Nothing happened.

On Tuesday, they tried again, releasing an update that warns of “an urgent and deteriorating situation” and “a confusing and piecemeal system” where individuals have largely given up asking Canadian authorities for protection.

Canadians of Tibetan, Uyghur, Taiwanese and Chinese descent, supporters of Hong Kong’s democracy movement and the Falun Gong all report having been targeted by Chinese government officials and surrogates — who include an army of international students as well as both privately and publicly funded community organizations. […]

The 52-page report offers plenty of examples taken from interviews as well as media reports.

Collected and presented together in the context of intelligence reports that for years have warned about China’s rising interference in Canada’s domestic affairs, the latest report paints a picture that will come as a shock to some.

More shocking is the inaction of Canadian leaders.

Speaking of which, be wary of the reports of “COVID related hate crimes”. The propaganda effort of the CCP to reframe China as “victim” is both deep and wide.

CHINADA (Your Government Is Here For You)

From the Saturday Telegraph;

China deliberately suppressed or destroyed evidence of the coronavirus outbreak in an “assault on international transparency’’ that cost tens of thousands of lives, according to a dossier prepared by concerned Western governments on the COVID-19 contagion.

The 15-page research document, obtained by The Saturday Telegraph, lays the foundation for the case of negligence being mounted against China.

It states that to the “endangerment of other countries” the Chinese government covered-up news of the virus by silencing or “disappearing” doctors who spoke out, destroying evidence of it in laboratories and refusing to provide live samples to international scientists who were working on a vaccine.

It can also be revealed the Australian government trained and funded a team of Chinese scientists who belong to a laboratory which went on to genetically modify deadly coronaviruses that could be transmitted from bats to humans and had no cure, and is not the subject of a probe into the origins of COVID-19.

As intelligence agencies investigate whether the virus inadvertently leaked from a Wuhan laboratory, the team and its research led by scientist Shi Zhengli feature in the dossier prepared by Western governments that points to several studies they conducted as areas of concern.

It cites their work discovering samples of coronavirus from a cave in the Yunnan province with striking genetic similarity to COVID-19, along with their research synthesising a bat-derived coronavirus that could not be treated.

It all bears a striking similarity to the details described in the Yuri Deigin post that appeared here a week ago.

Chinese Virus

February’s News Today:

In mid-January, Chinese consulates in Canada and worldwide issued an urgent call. China was concerned that the new coronavirus raging in Wuhan was so deadly and infectious that its nurses and doctors would run out of safety supplies.

It needed personal protective equipment (PPE).

In just six weeks, China imported 2.5 billion pieces of epidemic safety equipment, including over two billion safety masks, Chinese government data shows. […]

An investigation by Global News examines the troubling methods and underground actors used by Beijing to quietly corner the world’s supply of PPE in a state-level operation.

Do tell.

But read the whole thing, anyways. Better late than never.

UK Moves To Drop Huawei 5G

Uh oh.

The UK is moving to drop Huawei as a vendor for the country’s 5G cellphone network in a major blow to Communist China over poor coronavirus transparency.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, now recovering from COVID-19, gave the Chinese company a role in 5G infrastructure this year, squashing opposition last month by 24 votes in the 650-seat House of Commons.

But now, concern about the Chinese Communist Party’s inaccurate reporting on the coronavirus has lawmakers crafting plans for a retreat.

Background: Bains Says Canada ‘Won’t be Bullied’ on Huawei 5G

Canada is the last member of the so-called Five Eyes network of English-speaking nations that share intelligence to make a call on Huawei.

(But they can be bought).

“Ottawa can’t seem to shake this tendency to flatter”

Two former diplomats are warning that the Liberal government’s recent silence on China could reinforce the country’s increasingly belligerent actions on the world stage, amid concerns Chinese officials actively misled the World Health Organization during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

David Mulroney, who served as Canadian ambassador to China in Beijing between 2009 and 2012, said Ottawa’s “almost humiliating” posture toward China in recent weeks was a missed opportunity to acknowledge the country’s shortcomings during the viral outbreak.

China has drawn criticism for providing potentially faulty information to the WHO, particularly in the first weeks of the spread of COVID-19, which in turn left world leaders largely ill-prepared for the virus.

Guy Saint-Jacques, who served as Canada’s envoy to China from 2012 to 2016, said leaders in Canada and elsewhere need to call for a full investigation of the WHO after it uncritically relayed information from Beijing observers claim could be inaccurate.

He also denounced recent “reprehensible” comments by Health Minister Patty Hajdu, who dismissed claims about faulty Chinese reporting as “conspiracy theories” that originated “on the Internet.”

Mulroney said the recent silence by Ottawa is part of a long-standing instinct to gloss over Chinese aggressions, largely due to its tendency to retaliate and its growing economic heft. But an unwillingness to acknowledge even the possibility of Chinese misdeeds could sow public distrust.

Wuhan Flu: Ground Zero

Fox News;

There is increasing confidence that COVID-19 likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory not as a bioweapon, but as part of China’s effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States, multiple sources who have been briefed on the details of early actions by China’s government and seen relevant materials tell Fox News.

This may be the “costliest government coverup of all time,” one of the sources said.

The sources believe the initial transmission of the virus was bat-to-human, and that “patient zero” worked at the laboratory, then went into the population in Wuhan.

The “increasing confidence” comes from classified and open-source documents and evidence, the sources said. Fox News has requested to see the evidence directly.

This just in.

Your Government Is Here For You

As Health Canada drags its heels on 15-minute tests manufactured in North America and in use world-wide;

A shipment of more than 100,000 testing swabs arrived in Ontario contaminated and unusable, the Star has learned, illustrating how even as the province strives to expand its COVID-19 lab-testing capacity it is still contending with global supply-chain havoc wrought by the pandemic.

The shipment of much-needed swabs, a critical component of the testing, was the first instalment of a big order procured by the federal government, with hundreds of thousands of more from the contaminated batch on the way. The contamination is believed to be mould.

Bannon On China

Personal comments — I not so certain it was projection models that persuaded Donald Trump to suddenly ban flights from Europe in mid-March.

The EU condemned the measures, which it said were taken “unilaterally and without consultation”.

The new rules go into effect on Friday at midnight EDT (0400 GMT) and mark a major escalation from the US president, who has been accused of inaction over the coronavirus.

I think it may have been information gathering by intelligence services that pushed the red button. Epidemiologists (unbeknownst to them) provided the cover.

Chinese Virus

Australia:

As the coronavirus took hold in Wuhan earlier this year, staff from the Chinese government-backed global property giant Greenland Group were instructed to put their normal work on hold and source bulk supplies of essential medical items to ship back to China.

A whistleblower from the company has told the Herald it was a worldwide Greenland effort – and the Sydney office was no different, sourcing bulk supplies of surgical masks, thermometers, antibacterial wipes, hand sanitisers, gloves and Panadol for shipping.

Meanwhile, in Chinada…
