  1. mouther:
You have a serious problem with understanding hunters. First of all, the reason she missed four times is most likley because someone accidentaly hit the scope and threw it off a few clicks.
Palin is a sexy lady. She’s cute, she’s got personality, and she likes hunting. I don’t see anything in the Bill of Rights that says that’s wrong. As for myself, I’ve always been impressed by a woman who holds her buck by the horn.
As for a varmint rifle, my buddies in Wyoming shoot gophers with a 22-250. I would guess that a deer or a caribou would suffer a mean wound after the slug has penetrated the hide!
Now what really set me laughing is: “A facebook commenter points this out.”
    F@#$!!

  2. The Left would have us compare Sarah to experienced hunters. The more relevant comparison is Palin to OTHER POLITICIANS. Let’s see how Ignatieff would fare on a moose hunt, with his shirt tucked into his underwear. Or how Obama would compare hunting ducks – I’ve seen his golf swing and his baseball pitch. I wonder if delicate urbanites like Alan Rock or Stephane Dion could even begin to dress a deer or if they would vomit at the thought of it. THAT’S the true comparison.

  3. Paul in Calgary, the show is about promoting Alaska, and Alaska is the closest analogue they have to what the outdoors is like in western Canada. Randome camping on Alberta’s Eastern Slopes in the forestry reserve, variety of game, ease of hunting access on public land etc. The list of our western awesomeness goes on & on 😉

  4. Maybe the old military saying could help the Mouther out.
    This is my rifle
    This is my gun
    This one’s for fighting
    This one’s for fun.

  5. Cjunk, having never hunted anything other than the elusive bullseye, I’ll take your word for it. I like to shoot High Power competition with service rifle, there’s less walking. 🙂
Although, on the subject of long shots I saw a guy shoot a goose from 600 yards at Camp Smith in NY. It was during a High Power match. There’s a large pond in front of the 600 yard butts there with geese on it. Goose flew in front of his round after he pulled the trigger (that was his story, anyway).
It was a one shot stop. The goose did not run away, nope. ~:D

  6. I have to laugh. The left goes nuts on pretty much anything Palin does.
I bet you if they showed Palin in front of a computer, you just know some lefty would say she’s doing it wrong.
Remember they said Reagan was second ranked actor.
    Keep yacking you leftwing fools.

  7. Sorkin, and his kind who savage Palin for a host of “sins” (Taboos common only to the narwow minded hypocrisy of culture war lefties), is the modern equivalent of a snobish, uptight, pious bigot.
I just love how he calls a hunt video a ‘suff film” – as if there is a moral equivalence between murdering a human for profit and putting venison in your family freezer.
Dogmatic liberalism is a mindset born of arrogance, supported by pretension, fed with ignorance and maintained by bigotry.
That said, I understand why Palin is a target of the left media. Her openness is seen as weakness by the left because honesty in politics is not how they play. They see the honesty as insincerity because they themselves are corrupt – it’s a form of projection.
Palin has a place as a conservative/tea party organizer or rallying point but I doubt she has the ability (insight) to lead the democratic free world against the forces of global tyranny we face. She has the heart and the conviction and the integrity but she lacks the vision and perception of the enemy. She’s just to damn nice and too trusting.
We will see in 2012 if she is sincere (refuses a GOP candidacy) or a tool of the GOP old boys clique used to lead the tea party strays back into the GOP gulag.

“forty-some posts down and you guy are still talking about me. Thanks, guys!”
Yea, we know that’s the only reason you post here you masochistic little queer.
Kind of gross really, but you still haven’t clued into the fact that you are being used as a useful idiot platform for people to air their views. He he he……….

Great repartee. Mouth/bleet isn’t even bright enough to throw coherent insults. Big surprise.

  10. I watched the episode. I read Sorkin’s screed. Kate’s post is about Sorkin’s reaction to a simple thing like someone caribou hunting. Caribou hunting is no big deal. The places I’ve worked it’s commonplace. I didn’t get a chance to participate but would have given the opportunity. When fresh game was on the bill of fare in the hospital cafeteria, I looked forward to it with no illusions about how it was obtained.
What beggars belief is Sorkin’s reaction and the comments on Huffpo that follow! There is some serious psychopathology in the comments. “Anger management issues” don’t even begin to describe the level of vitriolic derangement many of the Huffpo commenters express. Heck, Sorkin can’t even get past the second sentence without dropping the F bomb.
Whence cometh such “open-mindedness” and “tolerance”? Palin is a “locavore” as far as one can be on the tundra. Isn’t that what lefties want? She seems to be an outspoken, career-minded female. Isn’t that what lefties want? She’s far from the Maytag washer advert woman of the 1950s. Isn’t that what lefties want? Lefties hate Palin because she puts the lie to all their profession of “tolerance”, “liberation” and “champions of the working class” BS that they espouse. She’s the living spotlight on leftist hypocrisy. And the lefties just can’t get past it.

  11. Nothing in Sarah’s show indicates she’s an inexperienced hunter. Here was an occasional hunter hovered over by a number of males with a camera crew as well, as she is trying to settle down to take a shot with an unfamiliar gun AND result in a clean kill, not a botch-up. She’s obviously loaded up with adrenalin – you can hear it in her voice as she weighs the pressure she’s under, but still she’s focused. As has been mentioned, she asked about the recoil because she wanted to know what to expect.
The .225 cal wasn’t taken along for caribou, it was for wolf protection – they covered that in the beginning. That’s the “varmint gun” application. (as an aside, cdn and am troops regularly take out 200 lb taliban with .223/5.56 bullets all the time – let’s put the calibre to rest for caribou). She took several shots, because the gun was shooting high from its sightline, not because she was missing on aim. She tried to compensate in subsequent shots but couldn’t work out the error right off in the heat of the moment. So they did the next best thing – changed guns. Duh. Game doesn’t usually wait around for you to re-sight in… And she dropped it clean. As to the trigger finger, she did exactly what any hunter would do – stuck it in the guard for a clean squeeze, as soon as she was on target and on breath.
    Mouth, your ignorance is stunning.

  12. Phantom: High Power service rifles … open sights? That’s awesome. My eyes are too screwed now to shoot well without a scope.
I absolutely love being a spectator around good long-range shooters. One of my friends, a farmer in Sask., has an incredible knack for long shots. We’d go coyote hunting and I’d end up just watching because I wouldn’t even bother the 500 yrd plus shots. My friend would shoot and there’d be this long lag between the coyote getting hit, and then even a longer lag for the sound of the hit to come back at us. “That long distance feeling”.
By the way, if that TLC camera crew were none-hunters, I’d love to hear what they think. I’d almost bet they’re considering taking up hunting.

  13. Don’t underestimate the .243
Hunting with my brother many years ago, he had the moose tag; I had deer tags so was using a Browning .243 with an 80 grain bullet. We had hunted together for many years and it was common to share the tags.
The bull moose stepped out in front of me at about 120 yards. I looked around for my brother with the .270, but he was no where in sight. I had a good shot so put two into the lung area broadside.
Both bullets went right through the body, one resting against the ribs on the far side, the second breaking a rib on the far side, resting against the hide.
Not to be taken lightly, as I say.

  14. If Aaron Sorkin thinks Palin’s Alaska is a snuff show, what must he think of Realtree Outdoors, and all the other great hunting shows we used to get on the Nashville Network before it was bought out and tamed down.
The episode, which I watched in it’s entirety on TLC last night, shows Palin’s Dad take quite a tumble and land right on top of his rifle,no wonder it didn’t shoot on target. I was concerned he’d done himself a serious injury.
He should have re-sighted it in before he handed it to her. When she finally was given the accurate rifle, it looked like she made a good shot, distance appeared to be about 200 yards.
It seems Sarah accompanied her Dad on a a few hunting trips, but watched HIM shoot the game, she doesn’t show any sign of being an experienced hunter in that hour long episode.
And no, I’m not some city kid, son of a fisherman, trapper,War veteran. I was born and raised in bush country in Northern Manitoba, 50’s, and had my own rifle to hunt with since I was eight years old, and still hunt every Fall, got a moose and a deer this year.
Palin Derangement Syndrome should be studied by psychologists, they could probably get a fat government grant to do it. Sarah Palin is an attractive ,accomplished conservative female, and the Left have gone batshit crazy with hatred of her.
I don’t believe she’d make a good President, I like Condaleeza Rice, though Palin be better than the incumbent,(but so would I,) but the visceral hatred of her by the Left is a true modern phenomenon, and one they shouldn’t be proud of.
The attacks on her family are inexcusable and this Hollywood (Sorkin) idiot’s latest is proof positive of PDS.

  15. Sarah Palin and Yoko Ono. Both unfairly vilified by the left, WAY out of proportion to any imagined crime committed by them. Both failed to get the memo from Rolling Stone/Huffpo. Ono breaks up The Beatles and Palin breaks up BHO’s teenage idol moment.

  16. Mouth.
Why do you think she keeps put Palin up? If your post isn’t answer enough, its because it drive Liberals like you into a frothing frenzy.
I can hear Kate laughing from here.

  17. Just a bit more info: the wood stocked gun at the beginning was apparently her .225, according to the alaska Dispatch. The gun she was handed was apparently a 300 win mag, which was why she asked about recoil (rightly – nobody likes a scope ring – they hurt like hell). I didn’t think they looked like 300wm cartridges on the stock belt tho… If it was – certainly explains why the ‘boo folded and dropped.

  18. I wonder if Sarah will do an episode with her dad while they check the trap- line, and they use leg holds.I can just hear the venom after she gets to walk up and club a cute furry animal right between the eyes. While she says jokingly,”oh look, a Liberal”.

  19. mouther:
you should see these clowns drool when they see fighter aircraft. textbook case of overcompensation and penis envy -the impotence of being in the middle of yearning for a mythical golden age that never existed and a modern world that rushes past them that they no longer recognize.
the commentariat here are simply the last gasps of phallogocentrism- that’s why phallic objects fascinate them so- all except the mighty pen, from which they recoil because it is an instrument requiring the activation of the higher brain centres. Anything beyond fight or flight and you’ve lost them.

  20. Hey Bill Stewart: news update, Barry’s Health Care Law just got struck down as unconstitutional in the US of A.
That sound you heard was the modern world rushing past. Freud, steam engine. Try to get with the 20th Century at least, eh?

  21. bill stewart ??….”phallogocentrism’???????!!!!!forsooth…
is that also the reason for this rash i can’t shake….
anyway bill…would you stop staring at my tits…yer making me uncomfortable…

  22. It was entertaining, absolutely. A bit tacky here and there, pretentious, even out right silly at times(maybe we should back away from that grizzly, just a bit, I mean with the kids an’ all).
I will watch a bit of the next, then I think it will have run its course, we’ll see.

  23. I forsee a future where this video will become as popular as Woodstock,
Not as good as the Hockey thingee mouther!but work with it..

  24. I’d rather hang out with Kathy and Arnie. At least the junk food is first-rate, and the cartoon channel is always on.

  25. Bill Stewart check out Freud’s relationship with his mother. Then check out his mother’s relationship with the boarder. Not wikipedia please.

  26. “Personally, I think liberal males biggest problem with Sarah Palin and conservative women like her is that these men are embarrassed about their lack of traditional masculine traits. I am sure that being a metrosexual (not that there’s anything wrong with that) with manicured fingernails, expensive clothing, manscaping and perfectly coiffed hair puts the poor fellas under immense pressure. Eventually, the angst between their inherent knuckle-dragging nature and the reality of an existence that attempts to emulate the life a teenage girl is going to create a certain amount of rage that must be directed outwards.” L.C. Bennett at 10:36
    Love it. So true.
Wonder why conservative women like the whole “shooting animals with guns” thing? Charles Heston. Ronald Reagan. John Wayne. Sylvester Stallone. Tom Selleck
People who think guns are icky: PeeWee Herman (Paul Reubens), Sean Penn, Michael Moore, effete metrosexual inner city poseurs with high-lighted hair and a drug habit.
    ‘Nuff said.

  27. The left is very scared of an independent, conservative, HAPPY woman. And left-wing men hate decent women. They know what disdain decent women feel for them and their inability to be a guy’s guy who loves his woman, and so feel more emasculated than they already are.
The male trolls out to get people like Kate and Kathy, not to mention all the left-wing males with a hate-on for Palin, are pretty creepy and obsessive.
    ann @ 8:51
Proof: That’s why mouther/stewart are instantly reduced to talking about dicks.

  28. Richfisher: Your finger must have slipped. It’s not a “hate-on” we have for Palin, but a “hard-on.”
    Shwing!

  29. So a gun is a phallic symbol, but the most expensive ipod/ipad/smartphone/crackberry money can buy isn’t?

  30. Maybe Bill Stewart is correct. You bitter clingers should be engaged in more culturally relevant discussions. Topics like arugula recipes and the merits of a well-made moleskin notebook. Hunting and gathering your own food is soooo yesterday (unless done in high-end charcuteries or gourmet, organic farmers markets – then it’s classy and sophisticated).

  31. It seems that it’s for BStewart and his his like minded comrades that the modern world is rushing past. In fact, socialism was yesterday; whereas, individual liberty and freedom is what we strive for tomorrow. The so called “modern world”, where individuals are free to do what they wish with their lives and their hard earned money, without a rent-seeker like BStewart’s hands in their pockets. In fact, it’s the Progressives, and their house of cards that is being obliterated by the Tsunami(hopefully caused by Global Warming) of people around the world screaming “Get your hands out of my pockets!”.
And BStewart, anyone that would say/write this… “last gasps of phallogocentrism- that’s why phallic objects fascinate them so-” is a moho to the umpteenth degree.(not that theirs anything wrong with that)

    …………..
Thing is, the, (you) effete ‘metrosexuals’, (as some refer to them/you), are oblivious to the fact that they are like the Koala Bear, protected and unable to defend themselves.
They, and their tenuous environment, are totally dependent on the ‘reactives’, to feed, house and protect them; if/when the house of cards palpitates they’ll find out that they are Jokers, (originally know as Fools).

  33. john begley @ 1:28, thank you sir. You made my day, a laugh a day keeps the doctor away. Or is it an apple? Oh well, both help.

  34. I just checked back here and it’s looking more like a bunch of wankers hanging out waiting for a bus and making small talk.
Is Kate okay? No new posts today … I am starting to worry.

  35. For 10 points, who said this?
“Now, my sense of humour dwindled from wit to sarcasm, then simply vanished.”

  36. I dunno about the Palins being that great a hunting family, and I include Sara’s father in this comment.
Going after big game without sighting in your rifle and scope is entry-level stupid. Being scared of rifle ‘kick’ also doesn’t signify experience in hunting prowess. Missing the first four shots and having to have someone else load the rounds into the chamber also indicates a newby.
OK, the show makes money for Sara Palin, and shows her at least willing to get her hands a bit bloody, but it puts a lie her claim that she has always hunted and is experienced at it. Smells tainted with hypocricy.

  37. Alienated,
Please try to keep up with the conversation before, posting stuff that has already been thoroughly covered about 60 posts ago. Please re-read the comments, then try contributing something that adds to the discusseion.

  38. Grok the 7mm-08 is an excellent choice recoil on par with the .243 but a harder hitting bullet with better ballistics & superior sectional density.

  39. Anyone see a pattern? The trolls – mouth, Davenport, BTJ, etc, etc. come out when their servant, Obama, or the Democratic party is under threat, even from self-inflicted injuries, such as they did when Obama turned over the presser to Boy Clinton.
Obama said he was going to use his email list from 2008 and the various 527s funded by Soros as his fifth column once he was elected.
Mouther et al are Democratic operatives. They act at the instigation of, and are organized through one of many 527s that helped Obama gain office. Their unofficial and informal affiliation provides plausible deniablity for the Democratic party.
Any question about why mouther attacks Sarah Palin?
