If you think that’s bad wait til you see Kate Gosselin peeing and moaning about the “tough” camping conditons. In one of Kate better moments said something to the effect “Why would anyone want to live like a homeless person?” Really classy there, my message to Gosselin, suck it up princess.
These are the criticisms of elitist snob hunters. Range rats with all their fancy gear, blathering on with “blah blah blah feet-per-second, blah blah blah bonded bullets, blah blah blah finally got em grouping in a nickle”.Armchair quarterbacks, all of em.
Her dad was carrying the rifle when he fell. down the hill. This is the logical time to assume that he knocked the scope. He clearly stated that he HAD sighted the rifle in before the hunt, and knew it was zeroed.
As for the “she put her finger on the trigger too soon” criticism: Oh give me a freakin’ break!! She was prone, had the animal downrange, and was taking the shot. I suppose they think the other guy should have had it cased too.
I use a plain jane rifle, and use off the shelf ammo. And I get at least one animal almost every year. She looked to me like she had hunted before. And yes, a smaller caliber is just fine for a caribou, especially over all that big open country. I have shot deer with a .243, and with a 25-06.
As for sexual obsession: Hey dude, I am not the one watching the scene over and over again, commenting on every little bit of minutia.

I finally just watched the episode that Sorkin calls a “snuff film” and I have to say, the only reason I can see for this guy’s commentary is Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS).
I have seen, in a couple of my friends, Palin Derangement Syndrome first-hand, and the total apoplexy from the left (so-called tolerant people) after the start of the show. It has baffled me until tonight when, like I said, I watched it for the first time (including the infamous caribou hunting episode).
The question comes to me, then: why such vitriol aimed in her direction? I would like to hear what some of you other SDAers think, but I have my own ideas about it.
First off, she’s a conservative woman. Immediate strike against her from our moral and intellectual superiors (sic).
She chose not to abort Trig when she found out he has Down Syndrome. Pro-life? She must cling to God and guns then, too!
The love expressed for her kids and her husband and her cousin’s son, who also has Down Syndrome, is genuine. Which leads me to my main hypothesis about her haters: I think the biggest part of the obsession and unfounded hatred of her is in the fact that she’s happy. She loves her family and she obviously lives her life, truly embraces it, rather than letting it pass her by. And I think and wonder if maybe, just maybe, those who hate her the most are those who hate their own lives, who have no joy in life, who have no fulfillment. It seems to me that Mrs. Palin is so happy and that just irks a lot of people, very much in the same way that, to night owls, morning people (especially the super chipper kind) are the most annoying type.
And just to rub salt in the left’s wounds, after all the crap flung at her, she keeps at ‘er like the freaking Energizer bunny. Must drive them round the bend.
So that’s where I’m at. This show, if anything, has made me more of a Palin fan. I’m still on the fence about her potential as a President or VP (not that it matters, since I’m Canadian and thus don’t have a vote), but as a person, WOW! Her whole family, in fact, is a bunch of people I’d gladly love to hang out with and just experience the energy.
From my meager hunting experience a smaller caliber round causes less “bruising” to the meat, a front or side shot to the heart or lungs with a hollow point best.
Pulling out the “big cannon” just causes more damage to the tasty meat.

As for Sorkin, a Mr. is not appropriate for this individuals self serving utterance. I agree with the analogy by Charles Adler. Possibly the programme for inner city kids to learn milk does not come from cardbord containers and plastic bags but from animals would be appropriate for Sorkin.

I don’t think that I’ve ever even touched an actual firearm (as far as I’m concerned, a bb gun is not a firearm). It’s just fine with me, though, that other people like, and perhaps even have a passion for, hunting. It’s probably okay with them that I have a passion for chamber music. I’m not a hunter, although I have had occasion to discharge handguns & rifles for fun; I do, however, have an ingrained habit – food consumption – and anyone, (who doesn’t exist on tofu), who thinks supermarket meat is ‘kinder’ than game has obviously never been in the vicinity of a slaughterhouse, where terrified animals can smell the blood of their counterparts.
If I am given, (rarely, unfortunately), some wild game by someone who does hunt, I cook it and enjoy it. This is ‘life’.

The fact is that farming and society’s rapid growth has disharmonized the predator/ prey balance in nature. It is through game management via hunters that helps correct the imbalance that the latte lappers are equally guilty of creating.
These are the people that live in their manufactured bubbles of reality, believing that they will always be cared for by someone else. They eat concentration camp raised meats, and wear the skins of abused animals without a second thought. Yet to allow another human being to instinctively and cleanly harvest a game animal as we have for tens of thousands of years is beyond these peoples scope of reality.

What defines a “weapon” is intent/use. Generally an object intended to do harm to a human(s).
Hence artillerymen do not regard a “gun” as a weapon but rather the shell that it sends downrange.

From reading various leftist blogs I believe most posters here are incorrect when they imagine the type and role of women in the leftist mindset. Most ardent leftists believe women only have one purpose and that is sex. They want women sexually available at all times. This means not pregnant and without children or husbands. It also means that any pregnancy resulting from any leftist male’s dalliance must be terminated.
I cringed watching the vid because of “some” of the very hunting issues mouther brings up (although he/she/it is just cut’n and past’n having no personal knowledge of hunting). There were a whole series of mistakes committed by Sarah and her father … but, her tenacity and determination came through.
The final shot was really “iffy” … for at those ranges a wounding was just a matter of tiny flinch of the rifle because the “moose” was presenting a tiny target facing head-on.
But Palin’s tenacity powered through. That’s what I love about Palin … she’s a natural, not a puffed up politico who holds her finger in the wind before moving in a scripted and phony direction. Millions of people are falling in love with her because they see themselves, their loved ones, and friends, in Sarah … loaded with strengths and weaknesses, but straight-up natural.
She is everything that the hacks aren’t. So, while I find much to criticize about the hunt itself … I can think of nobody in politics today who can endear themselves to the folks like Sarah … she is truly the people’s politician because she so bloody natural. And that, is why she kills the effete elites and their cling-on sycophants.
I wish to add my name to those who stated that they don’t hunt. I don’t hunt either. I have no desire to shoot an animal. I can afford to buy meat at the store.
However, being a freedom loving libertarian type conservative, I don’t wish to prevent others from doing what they want to do.
If it’s hunting, fine, enjoy the meat. If it’s gay bathousing, fine, enjoy the meat.

WAY too many people have grown up thinking that Bambi was a documentary and we are too many generations removed from a time when we had to work, fight and maybe die to survive. Having gone hunting a few times, whatever it is we are harvesting has all the advantages apart from the weapon of choice. (bow, rifle, snare, etc.)BTW, I never shot anything as muzzle loaders are somewhat limited in range but certainly not stopping power.
Living in rural Alberta, our kids knew where their food came from and how it was harvested. They all have a healthy respect for livestock and nature. As was mentioned earlier, ranching and farming in North america is recent history. Why aren’t the likes of Mouther and friends getting on the natives for the way they used to harvest meat? I have a hard time believing all these limp-wristed millies who hated the Palin show, had time to even watch it, what with Sex in the City and the W network reruns of Sean Penn and Joy Behar how do all these angry faces find the time. My dream show would be Don Cherry and Rex Murphy taking Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman to a hockey game in a Hummer. The cleanup bill from all the lefties soiling themselves would be bigger that the deficit.

Simple: Grass and grain fed moose and deer are rather tasty. Had some moose stew last night courtesy of Darcey (metisonline.ca) Jerrom who took down the fence destroying critter.
Also worth mentioning, the moose had a good life before it was downed. This stands in stark contrast to the life of the factory farmed turkeys everyone is buying this Christmas. In many cases, hunted meat is the more ethical choice. And in the case of last night’s moose, locally sourced and organic, too.
I’m no expert on firearms. My first rifle was a .243 Win. Great trajectory and negligible kick. It was a great open field gun, but was crap in the bush. I don’t think that it should be considered a varmint gun. A well placed shot will bring down a big animal.

Personally, I think liberal males biggest problem with Sarah Palin and conservative women like her is that these men are embarrassed about their lack of traditional masculine traits. I am sure that being a metrosexual (not that there’s anything wrong with that) with manicured fingernails, expensive clothing, manscaping and perfectly coiffed hair puts the poor fellas under immense pressure. Eventually, the angst between their inherent knuckle-dragging nature and the reality of an existence that attempts to emulate the life a teenage girl is going to create a certain amount of rage that must be directed outwards.
As for the hunting criticisms about Palin…whatever. I have too many responsibilities to hunt anymore but hunting is not as easy as it looks on TV. Often you are cold and the shots are rarely ideal. You know what else, I have always had my husband sight my rifle and clean the animals, too. Why? Because often couples or hunting partners divide responsibilities. I know, a shocking revelation.
But a lot of people criticize the .243 as too light even for deer (and caribou is about the same size). I disagree, but there you have it.

As to long shots, it isn’t like the caribou are going to let two hunters -plus a whole film crew of city boys- get within 200 yards, is it?
Palin should be able to hit a “moose” at 200. Hell, she should be able to nail him in the head at 200 with a scope.
Just googled it. It was a .225. A bit light for my tastes. But shot placement is what matters most. A gut shot with a 7mm mag (my fave) or a gut shot with a .225 still means the same thing. You got some walking to go. A boiler room shot with either? You got some skinning to do.
Mouthier has been with the movement long enough to feel threatened by persons of ability that do not conform to the ideals they set. Therefore they must be vilified. The problem is the people doing the vilification are without merit. That becomes apparent when they dig a hole and instead of realizing they are wrong dig a deeper hole. Sorkin thinks he’s a real man with no evidence of same. He also shows his depth of knowledge of the natural order of moose. I must assume therefore he is ignorant and talking out his arse.
Palin can look after herself. The left needs a massive government structure. Which do you care to emulate?

I know several experienced hunters that like to use the .243 for deer when the mood suites them. It’s a fine rifle for small or light statured people, and would work just fine on notoriously weak caribou.
My personal small calibre of choice is the 6.5x55mm which I hand-load to a comfortable recoil level for my wife. Yea, she’s a non butch, conservative sissy like Palin, but I somehow manage to live with it.
Karl, .243 Win is ~6mm, plenty of horsepower for a caribou/deer. Maybe a little small for a real moose, unless you have excellent bullet placement. Like, in the head.
I’d go 6.5 Swedish, .303 or 8mm Mauser, but that’s because I like the old war horses. Actual weapons y’know, none of these hot-rod hunting guns. Worse comes to worst, you can fix bayonets and CHARGE your prey. ~:D
What I find remarkable about Palin’s show is that this is the first time that I know of where a prominent conservative got her own TV show on a network other than Fox. This may indicate that a major cultural shift is underway. This might explain why the lefties are so indignant.
The only critisim i WOULD have of palin is that she is alway’s making it seem like everything she does can only be done in alaska.
Born and raised in manitoba then moving to alberta and having camped my whole life and is the rain and even the snow is normal and actually quit fun for me to It is not about how bad the weather is it is about how good your prepared for it and i use a tent and a blow up air matress.
That would have been my only critisim of her but then i realized that the show is about sarah palin and ALASKA so yeah other than that i love the show i tape it and watch it …i am also jealous ofh er in the fact that she walks into a gun store and pick’s up rifles right off the shelf play’s with them there was a few hand guns there and it was lke a convienience store for guns …i wish we had that here in canada.
politically i think sarah palin would ensure a second term for obama ,while i agree 100% with her politic’s and i have a huge admiration for her caracter and her passion for america the left would go to town on her and i am not sure she has the gut’s to handle something like north korea or china or pakistan or several other front’s where it some real strategy let’s admit it folks weather you want them there or not no matter where you stand anything you do there is going to be a negative reaction somewhere.

I love the show. Beautiful shots of nature and wildlife. Palin is pretty cool, I have to say. Comments from mouther inspire me to buy a rifle and start shooting again.
Phantom: After guiding a couple hundred hunters over the years, I can guarantee that there are very few people who can hit a “moose” in the head at 200 yards, with a scope, unless on a solid rest. Putting a killing shot into a trotting or running animal at over 100 yards is something that even fewer can do. If the editting was accurate, Sarah shot at a trotting broadside … I felt like crawling under my computer desk at that point. (the TV shows we did usually were heavily editted, so who knows if the shot was actually taken) I never allowed my clients to take those shots because earlier experiences had proven them to be 80% disasterous because almost every single person out there will wound that animal.
I guess you could blame her father; but the myth has been that Sarah is an experienced hunter … she’s clearly not.
“Sniper mission” … no, that’d involve 1000 yard shots. My concern was wounding, and that is not ever “about fun”.
The other fellow in the vid had the right idea though; he got Sarah to go back to the rest … she was going to wing it. And, he raised the rest to give a better platform and save Sarah stitches if his gun kicked harder than what she was used to. Sarah asking about the kick was completely ok … that’s a good thing to know if you don’t want a halfmoon scare over your eye. Sarah is not a heavy framed person.
As to the .243: A great choice. Shoots incredibly flat and will kill anything with a shot to the boiler-room. Plus, for light framed people it’s not too rude.
Like I said above though, the vid connected Sarah to many more people than it isolated. She’s got incredible grit and is so wonderfully natural. I loved her intense focus … she was going to kill that thing come hell or high water.
Unlike many admirers; I think she’d make an outstanding President and would provide a much needed change.
