I for one can hardly wait to see this program. I will be on the edge of my seat. The orevuew clips seemed pretty funny.
A not very nice review of this show is in the Calgary Sun today.
cbc interviewing a supposed star of this farce, saying it is the most talked about show ever. She ignores the fact it is so talked about because it is a stupid, ignorant show. The mosque is a church hall, turned into a mosque. How insulting to christains. I don’t recall all this hype for Corner Gas. CBC must be desperate to get viewers for at least tonight. Will muslims in the ME riot over this, like they did the cartoons. The owners of the hall were probably sued because they wouldn’t let muslims have it.
Well, I watched it, and I loved it. There is no ‘agenda’ here, unless you decide to manufacture one, and if that’s your small minded goal I’m sure you’ll find something to take offense at.
But for anyone with an open mind the show is just light hearted fun.
Sure there is a redneck they poke fun at. But there’s also an absurdly conservative muslim getting poked too. And an apparently racist/ sensationalist radio show host is poked at too…
Get it?
*Ignorance* is being poked fun at.
There is no anti-Christian agenda; in fact the Christian Priest was portrayed as the one of the most noble and enlightened characters on the show.
To the individuals who expressed outrage when the muslim equated looking like a prostitute to being a protestant — suck it up. Its not a judgement of prostenants. It mirrors the perpetual stereotyping the muslims were subjected to. Above all it further humanizes the muslims; showing they are just as prone to ignorant remarks and preconceptions as we are.
Most of the rantings on this page seem, more than anything to reflect the very ignorance that the show pokes fun at.
Not all muslim’s can be painted with one brush; and equating your average muslim, and especially those who are a 2nd or 3rd generation Canadian or American citizens with an extremist values or terrorism is as absurd as suggesting the average local Church is a NeoNazi haven or that the average Christian priest molests Children.
The vast majority of Muslims are regular people, just like anyone else. The fact that putting them on TV on a show like this could even be ‘controversial’ just shows how bent out of shape the country is. Do you get this bent out shape watching “All in the Family” or the “Fresh Prince of Belair” too?
