Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
I’m a little miffed that they aren’t filming the show in Saskatchewan. I’m also quite surprised that the show-runners, creators and SaskFilm weren’t pushing the CBC hard to have the show shot in the province’s burgeoning film and television market. Damned shame.
“she explains. “I was pretty sure all the gender discrimination these men talk about doesn’t come from the faith, but from a cultural interpretation of the faith, and from patriarchy.”
Umm has Ms. Nawaz ever read her Quran? Or is female illiteracy part of the “cultural interpretation of faith” she’s refering to?
“I’m a little miffed that they aren’t filming the show in Saskatchewan”
Maybe they wanted full time jobs in Saskatchewan and not something that will only last a short time.
No surprise, what would a we-are-all-one-happy-family multi-culti pc production be without Joe, the stereotypical white redneck, written into the script.
Typical MSM slop.
Mississauga-Streetsville. My riding. Sigh.
My friend and I stumbled into a Jehovah Witness hall back in the 40’s, trying to sneak into the dance hall next door. One of our class mates was playing the fiddle, Al Cherney by name.
Hasn’t even played yet. Lighten up and wait. Watch it then judge.
Zarqa Nawaz wants to put “the fun back in fundamentalist”. My wife is convinced this is a joke…
but I’m just waiting for episodes of “My Three Martyrs” and “Survivor – Gaza Strip”.
The CBC is out to educate all of us unenlightened folk about Muslims. What oh what would we do without the good people at the CBC?!
I hope nobody watches the show.
You know, I thought this was just a bad joke before…………but no, it’s an actual CBC production. Are they trying to run some competition to Corner Gas?
It seems us poor rednecks in Sask. are the source of no end of humour!
Now that the CBC is into having comedy shows about rare cultural phenomena, how about a show about a social-conservative journalist working for the CBC?
Did anyone else see the preview story on The National earlier this week? One of the clips they showed – I’m not kidding – was a hip young Muslim dude talking about “bombs” and “suicide” on his cell phone while in line at the airport, while stupid local rubes misunderstand his innocent conversation and alert the authorities.
Real funny. Not funny ha-ha. Funny sick.
Its so easy. Just like I did years ago, LOCK OUT the Commie Brainwashing Channel and you dont have to worry about any of there programing.
Title: Unoriginal
Concept: Like Seinfeld on crack
Message: Muslims are funny ha ha, not funny weird
Setting: Unlikely
Cast: Stereotypes R’ We
Writers: CBC hacks = Libranos
Reviews: Uh-oh, the Danish cartoons were supposed to be funny too…
Fergy’s right though, I’ll probably watch the first show…might be good. Or might be the last.
During the spin on cbc re this show, they never once mentioned that they had received any negative comments on it. That is not true, I have phoned the talkback line numerous time to complain. One question I asked was, will the cbc mock and make fun of muslims like they have done with christains for years. I demanded equal time for a show called, Little Church on the Prairie, or they might face a law suit for discriminating against christains. Also told them I was extremely offended by this pushing of muslims on the rest of canada. Protest to the CRTC and anyone you can think of.
The point of this show is to simultaneously portray everything Muslims do as being completely innocent and wonderful, while portraying “regular Canadians” as Islamophobes and rubes for reacting to Muslim behaviour. The humour is not “look how funny Muslims can be”; it’s “look how stupid Canadians can be.” Don’t know about you, but I’m offended.
I suggest, little mosque oh so dreary, as in who gives a flyin’ frick.
NCF TO: I also felt offended the first time I saw one of those commercials for the show. It just doesn’t seem right to make funny about the whole Muslim thing when jihad is everywhere and our way of life is threatened. But then most lefties don’t see it this way. “Let’s portray them as happy, fun-loving people and maybe they won’t threaten us!”
The CBC could get more than they bargained for – like a big fat Fatwa!
Exploding CBC buildings, it may not be pretty, but it would make great TV…
Ah, the CBC. Don’t watch it. Complain to the Cabinet Minister in charge of that Portfolio that you cannot watch it even though you pay dearly for it.
For gawds they can’t even give us the news without spin to manipulate opinion.
ENOUGH!
Y’all jest pullin ol’ texas canuck’s leg right? Little mosque on the Prairie is fer real? Whats next: Ahmed, Kid o’ Dynomite? Taxpayer’s dinars at work.
Hey Tex,
While it’s true that a lot of comedians are Canucks, this is no joke. When I saw the first ad, I thought it was an Air Farce (another unfunny show) spoof.
But noooooo…my favourite so far is the snippy woman and the Imamlet:
Imamlet: ‘…a Muslim feminist? Whooda thunk it?’
Snippy woman: ‘THEY see the headscarf and think oppression..’
Imamlet: ‘I guess they can’t get their HEADS around it’…
Yep, this will be a blast…
If you’re against ‘Little Taqiyya on the Prairie’, the worst thing you can do is complain. Protests will be played up by the CBC – controversy gains audience.
Nobody in Canada knows anything about, let alone relates to ‘the equitable and peaceful nature’ of Islam except for self-deluded Muslims. They’ll run out of jokes. A weekly half hour slot isn’t much time to get people acquinted with the whole premise let alone build a narrative.
The best revenge is to watch it die on its own, as all bad ideas are want to do.
Whether he believes so or not, Khan is considered an apostate by the radical, controlling, thug-arm faction of Islam in Canada. Death threats and exclusion are the reason why most moderates don’t step up.
Good for human beings like Khan, Hirsi Ali and others for their courage. We all need to do more to help them.
Im waiting for the spinoff
“Little Mosque on the Miramichi” where hardworking Muslims are a contrast to the local EI collectors. We can use the same group of CBC actors that did such hits as
“Iman of Green Gables”
“Rainbow Headscarf Country”
“Beachbombers”
“Davinci’s Immolation”
Wont watch tonight, but will read the comments tomorrow for reaction. Wonder how muslims will feel being mocked as a stupid religion. We Christians have put up with it for years. Maybe a few bombings and carbques on Toronto will smarten the cbc up, but I doubt it. It would be Bush’s fault.
It doesn’t matter what kind of ratings the show gets. This is the CBC. The show will air regarrdless of the ratings. To cancel would be discriminatory, even if the show is a “bomb”.
Koran Night in Kanada.
Why aren’t there muslims on star trek?
Because it’s set in the future!
In my heart I believe that this is a slap in the face to Laura Engels Wilder (The author of “Little House on the Prairie”) and to all Canadians, like myself, whose ancestors moved west in covered wagons. “Little House on the Prairie”, and it’s sequels, were the books I read over and over again as a kid because the stories Mrs, Wilder told were the same stories my great uncles, my great aunts and my grandparents told; I identified with the people in Laura Ingles Wilder’s books, I cared about them and I could see myself and my family in her stories.
I am insulted by this CBC attempt to minimize, satirize and insult the people who built and fought FOR this nation. If I watch it it will be to be as mean spirited and critical about it as I can possibly get – just like the CBC has been to the Canadians who built this country with courage, integrity and huge success – there was not a Muslim in the outfit; they came here late and live off welfare, made possible by our pioneers.
I especially like the way the one add said something to the effect of “muslims living in the middle of nowhere” I guess anything west of Toronto is “nowhere” to the CBC.
I congratulate the majority of commenters here who have mangaged to be offended quicker then the CIC and the CAIS in the States who are at least waiting until it plays to make a judgement call. Some here need to get outside and away from blogging once in awhile … sheesh.
Fergie: If you had seen any of the previews, you would be offended also. How long before the US copyright lawyers file a lawsuit re the take off on the name of this farce. Wonder if they will show a muslim with a tatoo on his back of their prophet, like they did show an actor with a tatoo of a cruxified Christ on his back on one Quest episode. I remember a prostitute told all her friends about this in a bar, so they all went after him to see for themselves. The scene was shown of the tatoo. People complained, but the cbc idiots said they were not mocking Christains.
I await a series showing how they live in toronto and how stupid and ignorant they are. There is lots to mock in toronto.
I’ve seen the previews. I’ve watched bad sitcoms that not on purpose but were badly developed mocked T.O. (Trouble with Tracey, it jumped the shark before it got started) Do you place all your decisions on trailers? Then you are a sad case.. I’m not saying I agree with the show, I’ll probably hate it, after I watch it.
I’m simply amused by the number who condemn something because it wasn’t actually filmed in Saskatchewan(Probably couldn’t afford the taxes)and make judgement calls based on hype.
Yes there is an irritating amount of hype, CBC is desperate, but all networks do that.
Don’t start the free market CBC doesn’t deserve my tax dolars with me, I totally agree with that.
All I’m saying is watch it before you condemn it, and read more Cannonball News and SDA news specials.
What’s to wait for, Fergy, the concept is lame, they have set up their white redneck stereotype as an insult to most of us, it’s the same old lame MSM multi-culti pc drivel. People can with pretty correct judgement ignore a new book just knowing the author’s past works and agendas. Since when has the CBC demonstrated high standards of quality and unbiased programing? You don’t work for them, do you?
Penny:
I have been self-employed for over 20 years. In construction.
My point is being missed. My fault probably, I’m not being clear enough. I think most CBC programming sucks. I just get annoyed when everyone jumps on a bandwagon to condemn something. I get annoyed when I see the Lefties do it, am I not allowed to feel that the same applies when the first episode hasn’t even aired yet?
My point ultimately is:
If you want a message to resonate through the electorate (because this is all about poltics to most here right?), you have to appeal to the middle(swing) voters.
Preaching, and echoing, to the converted satisfies the typer but not the reader.
If you want to condemn a show, I likely will not bother with, as I hardly watch anything but hockey, is to base your comments on logic and, by all means, decompose (ie fisk) the show after it is shown.
In other words, show your logical conservative minds here.
So what is next? Perhaps “Druids Do Dartmouth”?
man that was one long run on sentence. I hope my English teacher from 30 years ago didn’t see that.
How about Mennonite of Kensington?

penny’s right, Fergy. One doesn’t need to actually see another substandard, dullard, PC CBC piece of propaganda to know it’s crap.
Considering your apparent contempt for the CBC, your cavil against sda iconoclasts seems disingenuous, to say the least.
How about “Little Monopoly In the Prairies”
A story about farmers (white hats) forced to sell what they produce to an evil cartel (black hats). It stars liberal dion bitches … dream team … like dryden (black hat). Guest appearances – farmers.
‘Just saw a trailor for this (ill-conceived) show on the CBC last night.
‘Natch, the first thing the Muslim dad does is slag Christians: His daughter, who is dressed like a skank, is standing in the doorway. Muslim father protests (good for him!) and says she “looks like a Protestant.” The daughter says, “Do you mean a prostitute?” and Dad replies, “No, I mean, you look like a Protestant.”
Great way to repel possible viewers and to encourage others who deem themselves to be “post-modern” (read: post-Christian).
Will the CBC NEVER cease and desist their war on Christianiy? Any similar comment made on a sitcom about either Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, or Muslims would be verbotten. But it’s open season on Christians.
And I’m not even a Protestant.
What night of the weeks does this play? I think I’ll watch and episode or two before deciding to hate it. I don’t know, I guess I’m just strange that way.
Attempting to make a faithful re-enactment
…Zarqa Nawaz was supposed to remain behind the scenes on Little Mosque on the Prairie, but trying to replicate proper Muslim prayers on set can scuttle the best intentions…
…Muslims complain endlessly that no one gets prayers right in television….

Personally, I am waiting for “Welcome Back, Khadr”, the heart-warming story about a young man who returns to his community after living in Cuba for several years
It’s my understanding that the first three episodes are produced in Regina and then it’s off to Toronto for their genuine prairie view.
I heard an interview with a CBC production guy and they think they have another Corner Gas on their hands.
Give me a break.
After a week of decent ratings due to curiousity
the ratings will be in the toilet with the rest of the CBC.
The acting union is going on stike. Best news yet for 2007. Will that mean this series is in the toilet. Now, if only the cbc would go out again it would make my day. Was mosque on last night. Didn’t show up in our tv schedule.
The cbc has branched out into producing and distributing bumber stickers against Albertas oil industry. Read Ezra Lavants column in todays Calgary Sun. Seems they put one on his hummer and he is upset. It has cbc 1010 right on the sticker.
Now we taxpayers are funding the cbc to spread their envirowacko views. Guess they have lost so many viewersand listeners this is the only way they can try to reach the masses.
Time to defund the cbc.
I think Steyn wrote ( in WesternStandard): “Muslim is the new Gay”…make Muslims look funny on T.V. and everyone will love them.
What do you call a woman in a burka on a beach?
SPF 3000.
“Welcome Back Khadr.” Nice. Somebody should do a spoof on this and post it on youtube.
I hope the new show does a hilarious clitoral circumcision in a Timmies rest room.
Maybe the CBC can show the peace loving muslims hijinx, the first time they try to bury a woman up to her neck in perma frost for a good ol stoning.
Or even better imagine the entertainment when little decapitated Christian school girls corpses are discovered littering their route to school , we can learn how racist western civilization really is, you know by having the mirror turned back at us in a zany madcap way.
I can’t wait, this should be sooooo funny!
