I think when the smoke clears, if it ever does, we will learn (among other things) that President F-pants has agreed to allow the Iranians to complete their atomic weapons program, and that he also has agreed to protect them from Israel. In exchange, the Iranians are supplying the “boots on the ground” in Iraq to shore up the Iraqi army and attack ISIS. I kinda feel sorry for President F-pants. Poor guy loves Iran and ISIS, yet he has to pretend to pick one. Oh well, the main thing is that Israel is destroyed, so it’s win-win so far. it’s all Kabuki, until the fireballs.

  13. Please. Surely you’re not so naive that the thought of the US gov’t talking to Hamas is somehow scandalous to you. This is realpolitiks. Official policy may require the denial and rejection of any formal dialogue, but all the key players — the US, the Brits, the Germans, even the Israeli gov’t — will have backroom channels to Hamas leadership. Does that make the Netanyahu administration secret Islamists too?

    Refusing to negotiate with terrorists has been official U.S. government policy for many decades.
    If you can kill them, then you don’t need to negotiate with them. That’s realpolitik.

  17. I hate to break it to you, Oz, but “negotiating with terrorists” is exactly what the U.S., and all other governments, have always done behind the scenes even while their spokespeople are on TV insisting to the public that their official policy is to “not negotiate with terrorists.”
    Why is the Reverand Benjamin Weir back in the US, preaching about peace? Because the U.S. negotiates with terrorists.
    Why is Peter Moore back in the UK, working in IT? Because the US and UK negotiate together with terrorists.
    Why is Gilad Shalid back in Tel Aviv, writing sports columns for Yedioth Ahronoth? Because Israel negotiates with Hamas.
    That’s how the real world works. “The U.S. does not negotiate with terrorists” is merely a simplistic, black-and-white slogan to appease simplistic, black-and-white thinkers.

    The U.S. negotiates with terrorists is a change in policy that must be approved by Congress.

    It’s exactly the same as subsidizing them.
