Also: The B.C. Hotel Association says FIFA organizers have cancelled between 70 and 80 per cent of the hotel rooms they booked in the 16 cities hosting World Cup games. In Vancouver alone, about 15,000 nightly room bookings have been cancelled. As the CBC’s Janella Hamilton reports, while Vancouver’s mayor said the World Cup would be a huge payout for the city, some tour operators are skeptical.

From government subsidies, to public money for facilities to tax breaks to exemption from child labour laws the entertainment industry seems to have a sense of entitlement far beyond its capacity to generate any real value for local or national economies.
I’ve submitted a request to the Liberal government to purchase World Cup tickets so underprivileged youth, indigenous youth, and Y2K-LMNOP++ youth can watch a World Cup football match.

Now FIFA is cancelling all the reservations that they previously made, which means most of the “business and tax benefits” will now go away.
The last world cup made $8 billion for FIFA. How much of that will go to the residential tax payers who were forced to support this boondoggle?
