How the American Gov’t Viewed Canada’s HRCs
Mark Steyn has just published an interesting posting at “The Corner” on NRO. It’s an interesting glimpse into how both our governments spend waste our money.
“Herman Cain made me think I was listening to me in every answer.”
Twenty hands shot up.
“Well, we can stop right there,” said Frank Luntz, a fast-talking political consultant, as he paced before a Fox News focus group on May 5. “This is unprecedented.”
Luntz pointed to the top row, looking for answers. One by one, South Carolina Republicans in trucker caps and business suits raved about Cain. After watching the 65-year-old spar with fellow GOP presidential contenders, many were itching to join his ranks.
“He’s a breath of fresh air,” explained one gentleman. “He is the godfather of business sense, and he can attack Obama well,” declared a middle-aged lady. Others nodded vigorously.
Luntz was stunned. “[Cain] was not a real candidate before tonight,” he exclaimed. “What happened?”
Meet Herman Cain.

Does Multiculturalism Trump Canadian Culture?
If asked at a dinner party in front of strangers, many Canadians would likely think twice before saying they disagree with Official Multiculturalism in Canada. Failure to answer that question “correctly” might very well cause a bullseye to be drawn on one’s forehead, followed by a series of “Racist” barbs soon after.
Stepping back a moment though, when someone says they support “multiculturalism”, what exactly are they actually stating they believe in? Many undoubtedly think they’re affirming “support for multiple ethnicities in Canada”. But that’s not what multiculturalism means whatsoever!
Official Multiculturalism proponents in our country firmly believe that all cultures around the world are exactly the same; no better or worse than Canadian culture. Furthermore, anyone who does not believe this baseline premise is tarred & feathered with any number of pejoratives such as: Racist, Bigot, Xenophobe, etc.
I, for one, think such Multicultural views are absolute nonsense. Turns out that some immigrants do too. In fact, some moving to our country don’t appreciate our federal government trying to guide them into the sub-culture of their homeland and much prefer being an unhyphenated Canadian.
This past weekend I had the great honour of being a guest on Roy Green’s radio program, along with two ladies, Carmen & Sara, who left Egypt to move here, plus a regular guest on the show, William Gairdner. You can listen to the entire segment here.
They’re Not Out-Of-Touch Elitists
Stupid Canadians. Wherever would we get such an idea?
The reaction to Mr. Ignatieff’s defeat has focused largely on trying to explain how his reputation as one of Harvard’s most respected professors, a charismatic intellectual who could pack classrooms and once graced the cover of GQ magazine, could have worked against him with voters.
Mark Leccese, a journalism professor and media blogger at Boston.com, wrote that Mr. Ignatieff’s colleagues were dismayed that negative connotations about Harvard — long a code word in U.S. political rhetoric for “out-of-touch elitist” — seemed to have crossed the border into Canada.
“If Ignatieff had been a professor at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople, would the ad have been as powerful?” he wrote.

Y2Kyoto: State Of Aneroxia Envirosa
“If they don’t do something to modify the fishing regulations, we won’t have a fishing industry on the Seacoast, is what it boils down to,” said Hampton Town Manager Fred Welch.
Many in the fishing industry said they want the federal team to do more than its stated task of creating an economic development assessment report. The team is spending three days in Seabrook and visiting five other New England fishing towns.
The new regulations are known as “catch-share.” The team said they are not there to look at possible changes to the rules but rather to see what effects they are having.
What We Really Need Is Democracy
With a totalitarian party to vote for;
Although it hasn’t yet gotten wide attention, this announcement that a leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood plans to run for the presidency as an independent candidate is important. Up to now, it’s been assumed that the Brotherhood would not put up a presidential candidate, leaving Amr Moussa the likely victor in a presidential election. That, in itself, would be bad enough, given possible Islamist domination of parliament. […] Maybe further developments will show this to have been a false alarm. But it could well be a disturbing sign that the Muslim Brotherhood is within reach of controlling both parliament and the presidency in a new Egypt.

The tensions in the euro zone should be more than a matter of academic interest for Britain and other non-euro nations. The Schengen agreement, which guarantees passport-free travel across the bulk of the EU, one of the cornerstones of the European project, is unravelling as France closes its border with Italy and more desperate immigrants pour in from North Africa.

Entitled to their entitlements no more
Is Justin entitled to his? Publius reveals Liberal (un)reality:
…
Justin Trudeau is a mediocre MP unqualified to head a major political party. His accomplishments both in an out of public life do not warrant the profile he has garnered. That he is discussed as a serious contender for the leadership is by virtue of his surname and histrionic public speaking style. Beyond the now shrunken confines of the Liberal Party base his name is at best a historical curiosity. In the West and Francophone Quebec it is utterly toxic.
…While working my way through university I could usually smell the Grit apparatchiks in the making. Literally. They tended to wear cologne. Good old Irish Spring just wasn’t enough for them. There were a few ethnics preparing for a profitable career in establishment grievance mongering. The Liberal Party was their ticket to patronage heaven. Most, however, were WASPs (or at the very least WASPish) whose parents were lawyers, doctors and the odd engineer thrown in for good measure.
They were upper middle class. Working as a barista was considering “slumming it.” They did not get their hands dirty. Uncles and aunts hovered in the background with internships and well placed phone calls. Granddad had fought in the war, yet they always spoke highly of peacekeeping, though few understood the concept beyond the image of nice men in blue berets handing out bags of grain.
Their conversations revolved around networking, status symbols and which professors were the easiest. When pressed they would offer political opinions. The more practiced ones could deliver pitch perfect sermons on the conventional wisdom. Multiculturalism, multilateralism, the importance of French (at a university where Mandarin was the unofficial second language) and the value of preparing for a globalized world through increased public investment in R&D. Trudeaupian Newspeak…
Justin Trudeau is their candidate. An unreal leader for an unreal party. He is where he is because of his father and grandfather. Just like the Liberals I meet in school. Unfortunately for both of them they are almost the only Liberals left in the country.
