VRWC: Program Notes

Mark Steyn will be on Ezra’s show on Sun TV later today to discuss his new book, After America.

If you enjoyed Mark’s last apocalyptic blockbuster, you’ll appreciate this one even more. From budgets to the border, diversity to disease, manufacturing to manhood, Steyn looks at the American undreaming, and provides a glimpse of the post-American world. There’s laughs along the way, and a few suggestions as to how total civilizational collapse might be avoided.

Portraits Of Honour

Phil writes from Ottawa;

I met a gentleman in the Calgary airport yesterday who mentioned the
Portraits of Honour project now touring Canada. Essentially it’s a
large 50′ mural with painted portraits of our fallen soldiers with
a goal to raise funds for troop support.
Afterwards I thought about you and SDA nation.
It has already received plenty of media attention and their website
http://www.portraitsofhonour.com/ with a 9 minute video at the bottom
clearly explains the background and the goal of the project.

There are four stops scheduled for Saskatchewan in August. Check it out.

It’s Probably Nothing

JP Morgan warned clients that Italy has a thin margin of safety and risks running out of cash to cover spending as soon as September. “Italy and Spain will run out of cash in September and February respectively, if they lose access to funding markets,” said the bank’s fixed income team of Pavan Wadhwa and Gianluca Salford. Worries about Italy’s immediate cash level risks leading to “a self-fulfilling negative spiral.”

How’s That Hopey Changey Thing Working Out For Ya?

Reader Tips

Loyal SDA readers have been putting up with dog shows all year – what’s one more? Here’s Ch. Nancolleth Markable winning Best In Show at Westminster Kennel Club, 1932.
I’d post footage of new Can.Am.Ch.Minuteman Underworld winning the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Canada National yesterday, but our videographer had to take him into the ring for me. So this ringside candid taken last month in Long Beach (where he finished his AKC title at the MSC of Southern California specialty) will have to do.

It’s Probably Nothing

Hedgehog Party;

Cost shifting is the practice of shifting the much of the cost of Medicare, Medicaid, and indigent care to private insurance or the uninsured. In simple terms, private insurance premiums bear a 20-40% hidden tax to support underpayments in government programs.
The implications are enormous. The avenues for inefficiency and corruption are endless. But the implementation of Obamacare will be the real tipping point. Millions of government sponsored patients will be added to the rolls. Their underpayments will be forced into the premiums of private insurance. The collapse of private health insurance will be almost immediate. The effect on healthcare will be devastating, and the cost of public care will escalate 20-40% or more.
