Easy now, the Norwegian owners of the wind turbines were only paid the equivalent of $1.54 per Kw/hr to not produce. Nice work if you can get it.
And if McGuinty gets his way to plaster the northern Ontario – Lake Superior shoreline with turbines, expect the same for Ontario. Just hope that Hudak gets in and cancels the projects. These guys are absoute morons.
And now here in Alberta it looks like mini fat Ralph without all the carbs will win and just watch the real stupidity start with more and more global warming money being flushed towards supporters. Hopefully Alison Redford comes out on top, she understands real energy ie oil coal, not pixie energy like wind and solar. I’ve just read a letter to the editor from an Ontario resident who has spend nearly a month endlessly calling every alleged “spokesperson” she could find just trying to get some basic questions answered regarding these idiot windmills. Not a call back, not a response, and from the politicians she gets formulaic responses about how it will create jobs, etc.
BTW, she notes that Samsung has handed off the communication function to a public relations firm, another layer to insulate dullwitted dalton.
It might make more sense economically, to pay potential windfarm developers to not build. Kind of like paying farmers not to grow certain crops. It would be cheaper in the long term, because there wouldn’t be any mess to clean up.
This is what happens when a scam is built upon another scam. Crony capitalism will take advantage if it can. In the Reader’s Tips thread we learned from maz2 of the involvement of Goldman Sachs in the Solyndra affair. Lenin said the capitalist will sell me the rope with which I will hang him.
What green job can actually be created by building more wind turbines? Once they are built, the only positions required are watchman, maintenance jobs. Manufacturing blades would only be viable if jurisdictions other than Ont. were dumb enough to embrace wind technology. Where are these countries?
The same results could be achieved by massive investment in buggy wheel manufacturing capacity.
Don’t count that out, McGuinty may announce it tomorrow, and the MSM would just eat it up.

I read an article ( I think it was Steyn’s site?) saying we have lost our technical abilities by turning away from logical facts to intuitive thinking.
Getting to the Moon would be impossible today since we don’t have the human flexibility or knowledge anymore, since all is done in committees, not by a group of gifted people.

As those who are interested in running of government know, the politicians and the press are in mutual intercourse, pleasuring each other.
There will be no end to the apparatchiks in the government spending our money until the population gets fed up and throws’ them out the window as happened many times in history.

What is most disappointing is that our only recourse is the same old cliche, “You can vote them out”. Somehow this doesn’t seem to be working.

I’ve heard of “take or pay” contracts, they are fairly common and bankable.

Moronic behaviour is an easy way to explain these liberals, but I have my own opinion. Obama, Dalton et al are going gung-ho green because they believe that “big oil” has been blocking the solar, wind etc., green movement. Heck, when I was a young and foolish guy (I even voted in the first Trudeumania national election for Obama’s forerunner, P.E.T.) there were always conspiracy stories against “big oil”; some little guy had invented a carbureator that would give a zillion mpg. Big Oil bought him out. Obama and his bunch are from the 1960s radical hippy “Progressive” era and still believe every horror story (which they invented) about wealthy men – J. Paul Getty and Big Oil. General Motors (ridiculed as General Bull Moose). Obama gets in and as soon as he can buys control of GM (to produce Volts). Bush stopped gov’t subsidy of Solardyn (forget its name, but they made solar panels) because a report predicted it would go bankrupt by Sept. 2011. Eight days into office and Pres. Zero pushed for the $535 million subsidy. Of course he did, ‘cuz he had no doubt that Big Oil had been standing in the way of alternate green energy all these decades before he’d set’em straight! No doubt he still believes it. I call it Liberal Insanity.

Something close to the same thing is happening in the overnight hours almost EVERY DAY here in Ontario, and EVERY WEEKEND according to the IESO website (they are the people who run the power system).
The problem is that windmills generate when the wind blows, not when the power is needed. During off-peak periods when the wind is blowing, Ontario still pays 13 cents per kWh to the windmills even though the energy isn’t needed, and then turns around and exports the surplus at a lower price. Sometimes Ontario has to pay as much as ANOTHER 13 cents to get rid of the surplus. How stupid is that?
To make the situation even worse, windmills in Ontario also do not save any carbon dioxide when the electricity they produce isn’t needed.
Germany has about 2x as much fossil-generation as all of Ontario’s nuclear, hydro, fossil and other sources combined. Therefore, they have successfully integrated windmills into their system because they ALWAYS have fossil-fired generators that can be backed off when the wind is blowing, but that are still available and can be put on line to keep the lights on when the wind isn’t blowing. Ontario doesn’t.
In summary, it is absolutely crazy to continue to promote windmills here on a willy-nilly basis as McGuinty is doing. It makes even less sense economically and environmentally than most people can even imagine.

That’s the beauty of solar energy. There are already vast stores of it available as coal, oil and gas.
Cut to the chase….
Hydro….infrastructure already built….totally reliable and flexible….can be more or less turned off and on within minutes.
Nuclear….scary to the moonbats…reliable…only useful for baseline…inflexible…needs as much as 24 hours to turn off and on….
Solar and wind…inflexible..unreliable…intermitant…
NG turbines…reliable and as flexible as hydro…can be sited next to the load….but opposed by fearful moonbats who heat with NG…
Denmark with the largest installed wind power uses none of it but exports it to Sweden and Norway….imports electricity from Sweden and Norway….who rely on a combination of Nuclear and Hydro……
The reason is that due to wind’s intermittant nature and fossil fuel inflexibility….fossil fueled generators must be kept at “hot spin” to back up the wind…
