What We Really Need Is Democracy

With a totalitarian party to vote for!

“The regime today is the same one that was founded in 1952. This is still the Nasserist regime. I was hoping this revolution would bring something different, that we could return to the liberal tradition that existed before Nasser destroyed it. Egypt had a historic opportunity to revive its liberal past, but the moment has passed. The military didn’t encourage that path, the Muslim Brotherhood jumped over everybody to manipulate the process, and the liberal secular forces retreated.”

Just Another “Isolated” Incident

15 people were arrested at a New York amusement park after Muslim women in hijabs were denied entrance onto rides because of safety reasons related to their headgear. Here is an explanation of what initiated the violence:

Earlier, a park cashier told a Journal News reporter that a woman wearing a hijab either pushed or hit a ride operator who forbade her from going on the ride. She said a police officer tried to restrain the woman and the woman’s husband took offense, at which point a multiple-person fight broke out.

What We Really Need Is Democracy

With a party of Jew-hating totalitarians to vote for;

On Thursday, a team of 15 to 20 armed al-Qaeda terrorists (members of the Palestinian Popular Committees, an al-Qaeda affiliate) snaked through tunnels from Gaza to Sinai. From there, they hiked 200 kilometers over land, either ignored or facilitated by Egyptian army forces. They were thus able to sneak into Israel through the porous border at Eilat — porous because Israel has not needed to worry much about its Egyptian border for the last 30 years.
At around noon, the terrorists took up positions along the highway and opened fire at buses and cars. One detonated a suicide belt. In all, eight Israelis were killed and 30 more wounded. The terrorists shot to death a family of four who were just out driving in their car — father, mother, and their 6- and 4-year-old kids (“resistance” against the “occupiers,” as Islamists like to say). Barry Rubin counts this as al-Qaeda’s first successful terrorist attack against Israel.
From here, the story gets more frightful.

Read the whole thing. But hey, how ’bout that Libyan thing!

Just imagine how this Globe and Mail story would have been reported…

… and the following commentary (want to bet there would be little if none about the, er, religious aspect?) had these actions been attributed to people professing Christianity?

Somalis suffer and die as Islamists ban ‘infidel’ aid
Even as drought and hunger grew to disastrous levels in Somalia this year, Islamist militants told destitute farmers to “depend on God” instead of the “infidels” at foreign relief agencies…
One farmer described how his 40 goats and 20 cattle died of starvation as al-Shabab refused to allow any help from relief agencies. “They were telling people to just depend on God and forget about depending on the agencies,” he told the human rights researchers.
Another refugee said the insurgents told him: “We don’t want the food of disbelievers.”..
In the territory under its control, the Islamist militia “continues to carry out public beheadings and floggings, forcibly recruits both adults and children into its forces, imposes onerous regulations on nearly every aspect of human behaviour and social life, and deprives inhabitants of badly needed humanitarian assistance, including food and water,”..

One gives the paper some credit for serious reporting (much though they may have been pained about this reality)–but what about the lessons to be drawn? The paper also runs this:

The first thing we need to understand is the all-important difference between Muslim terrorists and European terrorists like Mr. Breivik and American terrorists like Timothy McVeigh, the Unabomber and Jared Loughner (killer of six in Tucson, Arizona, attempted killer of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords). Here’s the difference: Apparently Muslim terrorists terrorize because they are Muslims and that’s what Muslims do. White, European, American and Christian terrorists terrorize because they are psychotic loners who represent nothing besides themselves…

Must have that religious equivalency, eh?

This Is My Brother Mohammed, And This Is My Other Brother Mohammed

Jerusalem Post;

When the severed head of a wolf wrapped in women’s lingerie turned up near the city of Tabouk in northern Saudi Arabia this week, authorities knew they had another case of witchcraft on their hands, a capital offence in the ultra-conservative desert kingdom.
Agents of the country’s Anti-Witchcraft Unit were quickly dispatched and set about trying to break the spell that used the beast’s head.

Anders Behring Breivik

So while we wait for the commentariat to sort out their adjectives, and review what I’ve heard is the shooter’s 1500 page “manifesto,” I’ve been struck by other interesting aspects of the case of the man I like to think of as “the Bill Ayers of Norway”…

Good to know he’s facing hard time.
Related! Democrat congressman and climate change “hawk” David Wu (more here) accused of sexually assaulting teen. (See how easy that was?)
Also, on the religious relativism watch – anyone got tape of fundamentalist Christians taking to the streets to celebrate? Pass it along, please.

This Is My Brother Mohammed, And This Is My Other Brother Mohammed

Michael Totten interviews a high-ranking member of the Muslim Brotherhood;

Esam El-Erian: Look, sir. If you don’t dare to learn the truth about 9/11, we will. We were victims of this dirty and bloody crime.
MJT: You think you’re victims because Egypt was blamed?
Esam El-Erian: All the nation. The whole Arab and Muslim nation was called terrorists. And you put these nations under dictatorship to face this ghost.
MJT: We didn’t put Egypt under dictatorship.
Esam El-Erian: Your administration did.
MJT: Mubarak was already in power.
