Turtle Swamp

The Hill;

President Trump’s administration has told the State Department to cut more than 50 percent of U.S. funding to United Nations programs, Foreign Policy reported.
The push for the drastic reductions comes as the White House is scheduled to release its 2018 topline budget proposal Thursday, which is expected to include a 37 percent cut to the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development budgets.
It’s not clear if Trump’s budget plan, from the Office of Management and Budget, would reflect the full extent of Trump’s proposed cuts to the U.N.
[…] Richard Gowan, a U.N. expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said the alterations would spark “chaos” if true.
“[It would] leave a gaping hole that other big donors would struggle to fill,” he told FP, pointing to how the U.S. provided $1.5 billion of the U.N. refugee agency’s $4 billion budget last year.

Oh boo hoo.

Fruit Of The Democrat Tree

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
VP Candidate Tim Kaine, October 20, 2016: “You’ve got to accept the results of this election, win or lose. That’s the pledge we made. Hillary stood on the stage in the first debate and said, ‘Of course I’m going to accept the results of the election.”

Wikileaks Release: ‘Vault 7’

And it’s ugly.

A total of 8,761 documents have been published as part of ‘Year Zero’, the first in a series of leaks the whistleblower organization has dubbed ‘Vault 7.’ WikiLeaks said that ‘Year Zero’ revealed details of the CIA’s “global covert hacking program,” including “weaponized exploits” used against company products including “Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows and even Samsung TVs, which are turned into covert microphones.”
WikiLeaks tweeted the leak, which it claims came from a network inside the CIA’s Center for Cyber Intelligence in Langley, Virginia.
Among the key topical revelations is that the CIA can engage in “false flag” cyberattacks which portray Russia as the assailant. Discussing the CIA’s Remote Devices Branch’s UMBRAGE group, Wikileaks’ source notes that it “collects and maintains a substantial library of attack techniques ‘stolen’ from malware produced in other states including the Russian Federation.

I need more coffee. This is going to be a long, long day.

Party Of Soros

It’s about time;

Claiming people are being paid to riot, Republican state senators [in Arizona] voted Wednesday to give police new power to arrest anyone who is involved in a peaceful demonstration that may turn bad — even before anything actually happened.
SB1142 expands the state’s racketeering laws, now aimed at organized crime, to also include rioting. And it redefines what constitutes rioting to include actions that result in damage to the property of others.
But the real heart of the legislation is what Democrats say is the guilt by association — and giving the government the right to criminally prosecute and seize the assets of everyone who planned a protest and everyone who participated.
[…] The 17-13 party-line vote sends the bill to the House.

These aren’t “protests” — this is the left advancing its political agenda through the threat of mob violence, and governments have been far too slow to react. But then again — as key actors in government and media view these mobs as ideological fellow travellers (they share the same donors) they’ve been content to stand down, and allow the intimidation tactics work to their perceived political advantage.

And Just Like That

Trump to reverse Obama-era environmental rules in executive orders

The orders will instruct the Department of the Interior to lift a ban on new coal mining leases on federal lands and will instruct the Environmental Protection Agency to make changes to greenhouse gas emissions curbs on electric utilities, according to the report on Monday.

Caveat: Report is based on “unnamed sources” at the Washington Post. Probably Bannon, laughing uproariously into the phone.

This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society

Protect the Harvest;

It is great to hear that the Humane Society of the United States and their Legislative Fund are running scared. For too long the previous administration and government has stood by allowing these extremist groups to push their agenda down the throats of unsuspecting Americans. It is long past time they were stopped in their tracks.
They are afraid because Scott Pruitt has a history of standing up to the Humane Society of the United States. In 2014, when Pruitt was Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma, he opened an investigation into the activities of the Humane Society of the United States. He also issued a public message stating that groups like the Humane Society of the United States are asking for donations and giving the impression that the funds collected would go to assisting Oklahoma animal shelters. Instead, funds were really going to write and promote legislation in other states and on the federal level. Of note, the HSUS responded with a lawsuit against Pruitt for harassment because they didn’t want to release the information he requested under the Oklahoma Solicitation of Charitable Contributions Act.
They are afraid because as EPA Director, Scott Pruitt can better watch-dog their activities and attempts to influence law and regulations to push their radical extremist agenda. In addition to misleading fundraising efforts, the Humane Society of the United States has made efforts to influence the EPA, their regulations, and to obtain information from them. They have “Public Commenters” they send to open meetings equipped with slide presentations. Under the Freedom of Information Act, they tried to get a list from the EPA that included data collected on farmers in the United States as well as data from Clean Water Act permits. Using the EPA as their delivery system to help end all hunting, they have worked to make hunting more difficult by attempting to push through regulations about ammunition.

‘NOAA cheated and got caught’

Daily Mail;

They were duped – and so were we. That was the conclusion of last week’s damning revelation that world leaders signed the Paris Agreement on climate change under the sway of unverified and questionable data.
A landmark scientific paper -the one that caused a sensation by claiming there has been NO slowdown in global warming since 2000 – was critically flawed. And thanks to the bravery of a whistleblower, we now know that for a fact.
The response has been extraordinary, with The Mail on Sunday’s disclosures reverberating around the world. There have been nearly 150,000 Facebook ‘shares’ since last Sunday, an astonishing number for a technically detailed piece, and extensive coverage in media at home and abroad.

Well, “abroad” not so much.

Week Two

Ed Morrissey;

This has to be the best fortnight conservatives have had in at least a decade, and probably well before that. It’s difficult to recall a two-week period where so much of the conservative agenda has been advanced as far and as rapidly as we have seen now. While conservatives can rightly criticize the implementation of the travel pause and other stumbles in the new administration, and while other fights loom — especially infrastructure and entitlement reform — we have to also acknowledge that Trump has delivered far more than conservatives dared hope. So far, so good, but to be clear … we won’t get tired of winning in the future.

Meltdown At The EPA

Julie Kelly;

It looks like the EPA will be the agency hardest hit by the Trump sledgehammer. For eight years, President Obama used the agency as his de facto enforcer of environmental policies he couldn’t pass in Congress even when it was controlled by his own party. If Obama was the climate-change bully, then the EPA was his toady, issuing one regulation after another aimed at imaginary polluters who were allegedly causing global warming. Jobs were lost, companies were bankrupted, and an untold amount of economic growth was stymied out of fear of reprisals from this rogue agency. The courts halted many of the EPAs most overreaching and unlawful policies initiated by Obama — such as the Clean Water Rule and Clean Power Rule, two regulations aimed at farmers and coal producers. Unsurprisingly, people in these sectors voted heavily for Trump.
Trump officials and Congress are ready to make major changes in the EPA. A leaked memo written by Trump’s EPA transition team details how the new administration wants to tackle shoddy science at the agency. The memo asserts that the EPA should not be funding scientific research, and it must make any data publicly available for independent scientists to review. It also said that the agency must eliminate conflicts of interest and bias from the science advisory process.
The administration also put a freeze on most contracts and grants, pending further review by incoming staff. A good chunk of the EPA’s $8.3 billion budget is spent on grants to universities and units of government; its 2017 budget for state- and tribal-assistant grants was nearly $3.3 billion. The agency also has nearly $6.4 billion in outstanding contractual obligations to dozens of companies across the country, dating back to 2001. These will get much-needed scrutiny over the next several months, and Milloy insists it’s a necessary step.

Drill Dakota, Drill

NBC News;

The controversial Dakota Access pipeline will receive a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow construction of the $3.7 billion project to be completed, according to North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

Related;

After spending more than $22 million on the Dakota Access pipeline protest, North Dakota wants to make sure any paid activists remember to submit their state income taxes.
Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger said his office is keeping an eye out for tax forms from environmental groups that may have hired protesters to agitate against the 1,172-mile, four-state pipeline project.
[…] It’s no secret that millions have been funneled into the six-month-old demonstration via crowdfunding websites, and that more than 30 environmental organizations, including the Sierra Club, Indigenous Environmental Network, Food and Water Watch, 350.org and Greenpeace, have backed the protest.
If national environmental organizations are paying protest personnel, they’re not saying so publicly. Still, Mr. Rauschenberger said red flags will be raised if he doesn’t start seeing W2 or 1099 tax forms from those affiliated with the protest arriving at his office.
“It’s something we could possibly pursue if we don’t see 1099s coming in for the activity,” Mr. Rauschenberger said.

Send them a bill for this, too.
