President Trump’s administration has told the State Department to cut more than 50 percent of U.S. funding to United Nations programs, Foreign Policy reported.
The push for the drastic reductions comes as the White House is scheduled to release its 2018 topline budget proposal Thursday, which is expected to include a 37 percent cut to the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development budgets.
It’s not clear if Trump’s budget plan, from the Office of Management and Budget, would reflect the full extent of Trump’s proposed cuts to the U.N.
[…] Richard Gowan, a U.N. expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said the alterations would spark “chaos” if true.
“[It would] leave a gaping hole that other big donors would struggle to fill,” he told FP, pointing to how the U.S. provided $1.5 billion of the U.N. refugee agency’s $4 billion budget last year.
Oh boo hoo.

Lets just pray that PM Zoolander doesn’t promise that Canada will pick up the tab, like he did with his virtue signalling about us taking all those refugees the USA won’t.
50%?
Why not 100%? Sell the in building in New York and host the in delegation in trump tower?
Why would you want all the filth in Trump Tower?
God ! Do I LOVE President Trump ! Can you imagine a wannabe GOPe President like McCain or Romney even mentioning a cut to the UN … let alone actually doing it ? Yeah, that would be a NO.
Bet the next win is gonna be Trump sending a bill to the NATO laggards for picking up their slack.
The irony is he could use Canada’s so-called calculation of “other means” to determine the cost to those countries spending less than 2% of GDP.
Nope, not tired of winning yet.
Brilliant. The U.N. types won’t be able to squawk too loudly either, in fear that he will cut the rest of the budget.
50% ? well that’s a start.
President Trump has another 3.9 years to complete this job.
I can hear distant echoes of the Hallelujah chorus. With each passing week I do believe its getting louder.
let alone actually doing it ?

And If they continue to fight Trump and call his Health Care plans a failure,
He should Let Obamacare Crash.
President Trump should just back away and let it fall.
Without his support in 18 months we can get rid of the other stupid democrats and RINOs that still support it.
I don’t think Canada could afford to pick up the tab that Trump is probably going to leave behind. Canada is one of the countries not spending 2% of GDP on the military as promised.
I wonder if this is why the UN is screaming about “the largest humanitarian crisis since 1948”, and the need for $4.4 billion before the end of July. Are they making a big deal about this as a pre-emptive strike against Trump? They see the end to their corrupt gravy train coming with Trump draining their swamp so they are setting the stage to make Trump ‘evil’.
Right, Jr pledged $650 m last week, additional funding for reproductive health care (abortion) after President Trump ordered a cut back in such funding. Someone else mentioned that Jr’s policy initiatives resembled his fathers: wait for US announced directive, then decree a Canadian opposite.
Trouble is we simply lack the funds to cover cutbacks to UN on the scale President Trump is suggesting. As an aside, it is President Trump, how rarely do we ever see that designation in media circles
The man is a businessman, he knows how business works, he knows math and “gazintas”,( for you liberals reading this), you don’t navigate the New York trade unions, all the contractors, along with the mafia and build skyscrapers without knowing how to do business. Up until now the world has had one dopey politician after another beholding to every buffett, styer, soreass, etc running the biggest business in the world, now you have a legitimate billionaire in the white house. This transition is a scary time for the grifters carpetbaggers and any other false phoney hollywood hooter types, the gravy train is broken and the Trump train is just picking up speed. And for some UN types, it is an ah ah um um ah ah um umthith is thcary timtehs.
Trudeau’s plan to bring defense spending to 2% of GDP is simple: lower the GDP.
Did any country concern themselves with Trump’s reaction when they rushed to censure Israel in Obama’s lame duck period? Does the UN not realize there is now a cost for being assholes?
Yup, I hope Juthteen picks up the slack. The more he stupidly throws around money out side of kanada, the sooner his popularity will rise down to Wynnebags!
BARTINSKY;
I assumed Trump was a good businessman as well until I read more of his bio. He is a high risk investor and has 5 bankruptcies in his past.
Bottom line is that Clinton was a loser on a huge scale and Trump is a huge gamble. I doubt either can right the ship.
Then he should cut 50% of the federal government and 50% of the taxes on fuel and energy and watch how awesome it would be.
So much winning.
So much UNwinning!
Boo hoo is right. This is a good start in reducing the cabal of thugs and thugocracies and their IPCC fraudsters.

Well Saudi Arabia could divert some funds from its world Salafism development program to help shore up some of the losses.
Canada can’t afford a lot of things, but that’s not stopping PM Trudeau from spending borrowed money that we don’t have enough taxpayers to tax to pay back.
I see what you did there, slyly alluding to PM Trudeau’s aptitude for math. When he has reduced our GDP we’ll still be spending
Even by cutting their contribution by 50% the U.S. is still by far the largest contributor to the U.N.
He needs to cut it by another 25% for a total of 75%.
“I assumed Trump was a good businessman as well until I read more of his bio. He is a high risk investor and has 5 bankruptcies in his past.”
When you measure someone’s wealth in the billions, is he a bad businessman?
His bankruptcies relate to Atlantic City. He was far from alone on that gamble. Who knew that rich people wouldn’t consider New Jersey a prime vacation spot?
… less than 2% of it, resulting in a defence budget that is absolutely smaller.
Bankrupt five times? He is a high risk investor.
Came back from bankruptcy five times? Must know something about how to get started, and restarted, in business and succeed.
Considering the conditions of his country’s finances, he’s probably as aptly qualified to preside over the U.S. government at this time as any other President has ever been in theirs.
Be careful when you start bad-mouthing our PM, NME000. He puts our money where his
mouth wants it go. Remember – he has replaced Morgentaler as Canada’s most prominent promoter of abortion. All the while he professes to be one of those hated individuals you call “Kathlicks”. How can he be both?
I’m sure you can find a consiracy theory somewhere in these facts.
BCer
Sixth last word of my post should read “conspiracy”.
Aplogiest extended to all but NME000.
BCer
5 corporate bankruptcies vs 500 PLUS successful entities.
Glass half full or half empty, dude? You sound like a raging lefty, or a jealous CINO.
I will take that success rate everyday, you have to crack eggs to make an omelette. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, etc. And yes, sometimes even the best laid plans sometimes fail. That’s life.
See why the ruling class considers Trump a monster? He cut our funding!
Just when I thought I could not like President Trump more than, he does this wonderful thing!
The UN is the most anti-USA, the most pro-left ( but I repeat myself ) and the most useless monstrosity of modern times.
The USA pays over one third of their bills and they keep biting the hand that feeds them, such ingratitude deserves serious punishment. I would not give them one damn penny but a 50 % cut is still great.
Trump is making America great again, he has been President what? 51 days or something? and he has already done fantastic things!
President Trump is making America great again, and this in turn will make the world a better place ( well…some parts of the world…others will remain hell holes as nothing can help them, the tens of billions wasted on them are proof there is nothing we can do for them)
Bullshít !!
The UN claims the world faces the largest humanitarian crisis since 1945 with 25 million people in Africa facing starvation and famine.
World Birth and Death Rates
• 131.4 million births per year • 55.3 million people die each year
If 25 million more than usual might die in some parts of Africa because they can’t feed themselves, they will be replaced in 4 months by the ever growing global population.
Western nations along the decades have sent hundreds of billions of dollars to Africa yet nothing changes over there.
it is time we stop throwing money in that bottomless pitt.
Canadian Friend >
“….stop throwing money in that bottomless pitt.”
Heh, there’s always someone skimming from the flow, that’s always been the real point of the pointless stream of western tax money flowing towards the Third World black hole.
Catptcha = 6031 THIEVES – LOL
just when I started to consider paul from Calgary the dumbest poster in here you show up
Thanks for keeping me on my toes on that file!!!!
Africa has a problem due to the gov’t making sure the people stay this way, so the gov’t can control them. Africa was once a thriving population until the recent gov’t took over, now it keeps it’s people in a starvation mode, so they can not rise up. The leader of Africa keeps the money. It’s about time the UN wised up to this but then again they probably get some of the money.
DanBC & scar;
I am far from a lefty and I don’t know what CINO means.
My comment on Trump was accurate to my knowledge. My point being that his business history is of a high risk nature. I guess my concern would be how much risk will he take on to turn the ship. I prefaced my Trump comment by saying, in essence. that Clinton had nothing to offer.
The issue is whether Trump can turn the ship or not. I questioned whether anyone can. I hope he does. I consider myself a pretty serious investor and have little faith in the ability of politicians to manage much of anything.
If you had to give another name to corruption it would would have to be UN. Sending money away does nothing for “peace keeping”, it does nothing to stave off starvation in Africa, etc, it does nothing but make a limited number of people extremely rich.
Just withdraw already.
What’s the average IQ of a country in sub Saharan Africa? Look it up. Give you a clue of what were dealing with.
Foreign aid is a waste of money. It is all stolen before it ever gets to designated problems. The Clinton Foundation was pretty good on the foreign aid file. I suspect there are some in the librano party that know a thing or two about foreign aid.
Exactly true. In colonial times Africa could feed itself and much of Europe. With ‘democratically’ elected governments by the natives it quickly reverts back to barbaric tribalism with 99% of the wealth owned by the 1% who are warlord leaders. They don’t care if the non-productive poor in the urban mega-slums starve and die, because it’s always a good excuse to exhort more money from stupid Lieberal gvts like Canada’s.
The NGOs in concert with extremely corrupt governance has robbed the Africans of what was remarkable self reliance. My favorite curmudgeon wrote a fantastic book called “Dark Star” covering his solo, land-based travels from Cairo to Capetown that speaks to this failure. He has extensive experience in Africa on several levels and lays out the devastation in stark terms.
I should go feed the dog.
