The Border Collie And The Carriage Horse;

If the carriage horses are being abused, then so is Red. If they can ban the carriage horses, and the elephants, and the ponies, and the horses in Hollywood, then they will one day come for Red and all of the animals who work with us and who have shared the joys and travails of the would with us since the dawn of time. They will all continue to disappear. I see now that for reasons I don’t quite comprehend, this is the goal of the modern-day animal rights movement, not a side affect. Every animal is a victim, every human an abuser.
Thomas Jefferson wrote that personal freedom is as fragile as it is precious. It can die in a swift stroke, or it can suffer death by “a thousand cuts.” I believe the social movement that calls itself an animal rights movement is diminishing our personal freedom to live with animals, and that the right of animals to live and work in our world is dying by a thousand cuts. That is why the carriage horse controversy is so important.

How much is that moral superiority in the window?

The “rescue” organization returned with additional vehicles, and the imports were on their way.
On John Gormley Live this morning at 10am CST (11am eastern) : the international traffic in so-called rescue dogs.

Movement and sales of dogs through “rescue channels” continues to explode. While more and more cities and states are restricting sales of dogs in pet stores to those obtained from animal shelters and rescue groups, the actual source of these dogs remains obscure. Yet, there is mounting evidence that movement through “rescue channels” includes individuals or organizations involved merely for the profit, hence the name “Retail Rescue.” The dogs may be coming from the very same unscrupulous dog breeders these laws are intended to put out of business.

That word…

People take the word “rescue” to heart. It gives them the coveted legitimacy to claim that “rescuing” (again, BUYING from a shelter) is the only way to get a dog AND have a clean conscience. They often spout off such lies as “when you breed or buy, shelter dogs die,” or “don’t shop, ADOPT!”
So I say again… I didn’t adopt OR rescue my tiny little sweet-pea of a mutt. I bought her from a 501c3 charitable private dog shelter.

Not your grandma’s humane society;

Animal Justice’s non-profit wing launched their charter campaign last week, saying it would “ensure animals are treated as sentient beings instead of mere property, would guarantee the rights and freedoms that make life worth living, and give all animals a chance to have their interests represented in court.”
The group says there’s a gap between how Canadians care about animal welfare and how the legal system views it, and are hoping a petition draws the attention of policymakers.
“Animals don’t have legal standing to go to court and have a judge say yeah, that animal’s rights are being violated, that to me that is very sad,” said Camille Labchuk, a lawyer with Animal Justice.

Pollspotting! Does Canada need a charter of rights for animals? (To nullify the vote-splitting design of this poll, I suggest the nays be direct at the “No” option.)
10:50am update: SDA gets results! “No” has pulled into the lead.

The “Aquatic Angel” is the newest tool from the anti-hunting group, following the release of their “Air Angel” drones released in the spring of 2013 to stalk hunters in the field.
Described as a “submersible technology,” PETA plans to use the drones to stalk fishermen and “combat anglers who fish in restricted areas, catch protected species, and or chum for sharks illegally.” According to PETA, the group is currently recruiting members and supporters to field-test the new drones in all bodies of water.

Camouflaged in a green hijab, to highlight the importance of vegetarianism, she walked towards the mosque gates with a couple of PETA volunteers holding a placard in Urdu and English which read: “Make Eid Happy for All. Try Vegan”.
With less than a dozen policemen deployed, locals took the opportunity and shouted slogans asking her to turn back. She was forced to take cover along with another PETA volunteer in the market outside the mosque.
Within minutes the crowd swelled and Suraiya was left to fend for herself as PETA supporters fled the scene. “We are going to get a taxi for Suraiya. Police has been called for support too,” said PETA volunteer Divya.

If no cougars are ever seen, it’s a sign of global warming.
If a cougar is spotted in the city, it’s because urbanization and development have stolen it’s habitat.
If they shoot the cougar, it was a heartbreaking and senseless loss.
If they don’t shoot the cougar and it hurts someone, it’s humanities’ fault for incringing on it’s territory.
And no matter what happens, as it states in the article, the union will claim it’s chronically understaffed.

Cruel and unusual fluffiness;

A family told of their horror at being threatened with jail by the RSPCA which falsely accused them of animal cruelty and insisted that their beloved family cat be put to sleep.
Richard Byrnes and his wife Samantha suffered two years of trauma after an RSPCA inspector seized their cat, 16-year-old Claude, in May 2013 claiming that he was too thin and had matted fur.
After 24 hours of agonising negotiations Claude was put to sleep by a local vet against the wishes of Mr and Mrs Byrnes who were threatened with prison if they refused to sign the release form.

The pet overpopulation lie, exposed:

Bruhn-Worm has arranged the transportation and rescue of 21 dogs in all from India, including the orphaned and unrelated puppies at the Tri-County Humane Society.
“I was actually in a town that was smack dab in the center of the country where there was no readily accessible air transportation for live animals, so there was a bunch of taxi cabs that I actually had to hire for the pups,” she said.
The medium-sized puppies are up for adoption for $300 each at the Tri-County Humane Society. As of Friday, Shelly and Salman already had deposits put on them by potential adopters.

Before you donate, ask if they import.
