How much is that moral superiority in the window?
The “rescue” organization returned with additional vehicles, and the imports were on their way.
On John Gormley Live this morning at 10am CST (11am eastern) : the international traffic in so-called rescue dogs.
Movement and sales of dogs through “rescue channels” continues to explode. While more and more cities and states are restricting sales of dogs in pet stores to those obtained from animal shelters and rescue groups, the actual source of these dogs remains obscure. Yet, there is mounting evidence that movement through “rescue channels” includes individuals or organizations involved merely for the profit, hence the name “Retail Rescue.” The dogs may be coming from the very same unscrupulous dog breeders these laws are intended to put out of business.
People take the word “rescue” to heart. It gives them the coveted legitimacy to claim that “rescuing” (again, BUYING from a shelter) is the only way to get a dog AND have a clean conscience. They often spout off such lies as “when you breed or buy, shelter dogs die,” or “don’t shop, ADOPT!”
So I say again… I didn’t adopt OR rescue my tiny little sweet-pea of a mutt. I bought her from a 501c3 charitable private dog shelter.

Rescue pets are the new granite countertops for the latte-liberal set.
While I am sure there are unscrupulous people trafficking in dogs, there are many rescue societies doing great work. Not all are bad. I work with a few and they all demand a potential owner be vetted and we’ll suited to adopt one of their dogs.
Too bad they have gotten themselves into this same rediculous animal rights ideologies that those idiots at PETA have and they are pushing this veganism poppycock and out of every dollar donated only about a penny might go into real animal welfare
I bought a breed dog. From a reputable breeder. The only reason she is not competition material is a white fur patch somewhere where that breed standard says it’s not allowed.
Other than that she’s a lovely dog. It’s not my opinion, by the way, I’ve had several breeders go “wow! but pity about the patch”, Most of the non professionals just stop and stare. Seriously, I’ve had several people stop their cars on our walks and ask about her. She stops traffic.
Also, she’s healthy, shows all the positive breed characteristics the breed is known for, etc…
So PETA and the rest od rthe animals rights extremists masquerading as “animal protection”, go F-yourselves.
They’re importing “rescue” dogs from Taiwan into the Lower Mainland. Rescue was pioneered by purebred dog clubs, trying to make sure their own didn’t burden shelters. But it’s now grown into an international trade in moral superiority.
My dog is a mixed breed. Got her from the farm where she was born, free. And her value? Priceless. They never had problems finding homes for her momma’s pups.
My wife volunteers with a local cat/dog rescue group. There are thousands of small groups that receive dogs and cats from owners that are no longer able to care for them or take them in from the street.
The biggest problem is finding homes for them and fundraising for food and shelter.
All “Rescue” operations are not the same.
All 3 of my dogs are purebreds straight from the breeder. We found the last pair, litter brothers, through Kijiji. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Why does anyone import these dogs if you can’t find homes for yours?
Being rated and judged by a volunteer to decide if I’m proper material to own and love a dog?
I don’t think so.
The idea that dogs have to be obtained from rescue or from shelters in general will logically lead to the extinction of dogs as pets. I have news for the rescue people: dogs are created by breeding dogs. I also have news for all you folks praising the shelters who ‘screen’ potential adopters: The ultimate result of making it hard to own a dog or sell a dog is to make them rare and eventually extinct. That is, by the way the goal of many of the animal ‘loving’ groups out there, including PETA of course but I would add many of the SPCA branches as well. I bred dogs for years and every one of them lived at least as well and as free as your average apartment dwelling human. Buy yours dog, treat it well and get off your guilt trip about owning an animal. Most of you eat animals for pete’s sake! Do you ‘adopt’ your steak?
“Do you ‘adopt’ your steak?”
Like beer, steak is really only rented. IYKWIMAITYD
No, logically people will breed dogs to supply the “rescue” market. I suspect some are already doing it in the poorer and/or less regulated countries where many rescuers are finding dogs now. The rescuers are getting too invested in their “rescue” operations to give them up (they aren’t doing it for the animals, they are doing it for their own ego.)
I was watching border security as a cheap alternative to a lobotomy when a story came on about two individuals transporting almost a dozen dogs from mexico ionto Canada. It was for them a common occurance ,how many a year do these people bring in? ,Are these then sold for profit? Where are the rescue dogs rescued from?
I will continue with my reserve dogs, had great luck with them and they are so damned grateful. My original dog was named twenny by his “breeder” the second ,allowing for inflation ,was fiddy buck which is his name to this day
Just like the “fair trade” racket. Nothing really changes except the industry is now overseen by heavy misguided regulation and the successful participants are those that learn to play the game. Oh, and those that the politicians aimed to protect, are the ultimate losers. Add this to the long list of political “unintended consequences”.
Well, I don’t care what anyone says, I rescued my one of-a-kind genuine purebred Greater Glengarry Moosehound Jerome from a fate worse than death.
“Jerome” I sez, “you’re one lucky sonofabitch! If it weren’t for me they’d have operated on ya and made you into a proper Liberal – and you wouldn’t be rogerin’ no stumps, footballs and the neighbours’ stray poodle like ya do now!”
He just looks at me…but he knows it.
I have been asking for sometime, “rescued from what”? It seems most dogs being walked in our neighbourhood are all “rescues”. I don’t see packs of wild dogs wondering around, and are picked up by some dog catcher. I’m sure some dog owners over buy some breed and can’t handle them and thus get put in some sort of humane society but there is no way all these rescues are indeed rescued.
“rescue” is the proglodyte code for “steal or loot”
Our last 3 dogs have all been purebreds from reputable breeders. A lot of research and thought went into choosing the right dog for us. We have had 3 superb dogs – beautiful… as beautiful as a bull terrier can be… and fine temperaments.
I bought my Newfoundland-Komondor mix from a breeder. Awesome dog, perfect for our rural home. I tried on multiple occasions to get a rescue dog, filling out mounds of paperwork, but the fact that I wouldn’t agree to let the dog sleep inside was a deal killer.
My gf got a mixed breed little monster from Attiwapiskat (I kid you not). He was a rescue and he’s great. Very well tempered and only took a few days to housebreak. I think it was a good decision. Their fate on the reserve is usually to be taken to the dump and shot if they happen to get caught or trapped. He’s part Husky – you should see the bugger run!
When a person calls their dog a ‘rescue’ dog, they are really saying ” I’m so compassionate, admire me now “.
A buddy of mine lost his dog after 13 years. He heard of a Jack Russell that was available. The people were going to put it down if they could not find someone to take it. He said “yeah,I’ll take it”.
A couple of days later he got the dog. But, he also told me that they came over and looked at his place and basically interviewed him to see if he would be an acceptable owner.
If he did not pass their sniff test, they would have put the dog down. How messed up is that?
My first dog was going to be put down – he wasn’t “wolf-dog macho” enough for his owner’s tastes. Recently he took down a Rottweiler that was giving attitude to my wife – held the Rotty down by the throat until he submitted…
My second dog spent years tied up in a downtown garage in Toronto, then went through five “forever” homes and got returned from each one – psycho, red-zone bitch. Today she’s a registered therapy dog.
My third dog was “retrieved” from a hoarder where she survived for years, with no teeth, in a home with, eventually, forty-seven other dogs – only dog I’ve seen who can dry-swallow whole kibble…
My fourth dog was dumped on the street in mid-winter in Winnipeg, an old boy born stone deaf and with only one eye because some “breeder” couldn’t resist the look of this particular genetic combination even though they are notorious for having eye/ear problems. Give him a bowl of food and a fire to curl up in front of, he’s ecstatic.
They aren’t “rescues”, they’re dogs.
And I wouldn’t trade one of them for all the purebreds in Westminster.
This pet scam thrives because insecure urban idiots want to “adopt” pets as surrogate children. Stupid is what stupid does.
I would say they usually the new Prius of the self-righteous “I’ve done something good” crowd. Have you ever known anyone with a ‘rescue dog’ not to let it be know that their’s is a ‘rescue dog’. No, I didn’t think so.
The rescue dog self-adulation is just like all animal rights grandstanding, like the greening of the seals that was, I think, the first such project marketed to the rich liberal.
Why is Joe Clark selling dogs?
Keep all pets as far away from PETA and its HQ as possible beceuase PETA KILLS ANIMALS while using some hollywood celeberty(Alec Baldwin,Pamela Anderson)to push their phonie Compassion
“…urban idiots want to “adopt” pets as surrogate children…”
Precisely.
Just last year or the year before PETA tried to get the community of TURKEY TEXAS to change its name to the stupid name TOOFERKEY they offred a free vegan thanksging dinner to the community they were rejcted Its just like it is with other communties names like SLUGHTERVILLE,HAMBURG,FISHKILL etc These PETA jerks waht the name changed to stupid names like VEGGIEVILLE,VEGGIEBURG and FISHSAVE shows PETA is one of the most stupidists groups around besides GREENPEACE
