Ask yourself why, in 1995, Canadians reached out to everyone in Québec with great affection & love. Now, in 2026, the usual suspects are calling Albertans treasonous and soon … Far Right, traitors, white supremacists, Nazis, etc.
They view you as “less than”. They view you as serfs who must continue to work hard forever to pay tributes to them out east and in B.C. It’s despicable.
They will use hateful rhetoric to try to coerce you. Then there will be phoney criminal charges against some of you. Then there will be false flag operations, where they pretend that some independence supporters have committed crimes. Then they will use violence against you.
If independence is what you want, you must stay strong, because there are great forces working against you all. Your opponents do not believe in democracy. They do not believe in being honest brokers. All they believe in is power and will refuse to give it up at almost any cost.

Could also be that central Canada has always held a colonial attitude towards western Canada – exploitation and control. There’s also likely a deep resentment stemming from Alberta’s economic success as their province’s economic fortune is on the decline. Canadians, particularly in central Canada, have an odd passive aggressive nature that combines arrogance and behavioral conformity. Alberta’s and Saskatchewan’s culture is significantly different and arguably more similar to American than central Canada.

As I’ve said before, the unfortunate part is that this situation might have been averted if Ottawa had addressed the West’s concerns. For 40plus years, Alberta has asked for equal representation in the HoC and Senate, making the equalization formula fairer, to stop interfering in resource development, and respect provincial rights. Those requests were not only ignored by Ottawa but they doubled down and became more abusive.
At this point, after this last decade, I don’t think addressing the original concerns will stop the independence movement. The country is so dysfunctional in so many areas that leaving is the only rational way to avoid sinking with the ship.
I think it would be good for EVERYONE in Alberta and Saskatchewan (even BC) read the Declaration of Independence in its entirety.

I am getting thoroughly disgusted with the attacks on Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964). Most of us went through school and many went on to college or university. Many became doctors or nurses. Almost all of us (hippies excluded, and even many of those eventually grew up and went to work) worked hard at our jobs, paid ever-increasing taxes, paid off our mortgages at really stupid interest rates. I paid as much as 15% interest, some peers got hit with 22%.) Those interest rates were brought on by massive debt and money-printing by successive Liberal governments, starting with Trudeau Sr. elected in 1968 by some ignorant people in the East. Many of those were parents of Boomers, not Boomers themselves. Then Liberals rapidly flooded the country with immigrants, overloading the housing supply and driving prices sky-high so that our own young people can’t afford a home, overloaded the health care system, schools and everything else. And who keeps voting for this? Not just old Boomers; it’s a lot of young folks, too, who have been warped by the same corrupt media that has warped their parents.
A lot of Boomers have been forced out of their homes by the rising costs. Homes that they worked hard to get. They end up spending all of that equity renting a small apartment in a senior’s facility.

The Central Canada chattering class thinks that they can use the same playbook that works in the rest of English Canada – verbal abuse including ridicule, threats and insults – to enforce control. They do have another go-to move but it won’t work on a grassroots movement. They charm, bribe or blackmail the provincial politicians. For Albertans the benefits increase as the amount of separation increases. I don’t see how this is fixed without a complete repudiation of the Trudeau and Carney era.

I have always believed that to be exactly the case. Quebec has never been viable as as separate nation, and would quickly devolve into a third-world country if they ever tried to go it alone. Alberta could support herself just fine, and with the addition of a couple of other provinces/territories would easily become one of the richest nations in the world in time.

It is very much an urban-rural divide. We even see that in AB and SK, where the cities vote in leftist mayors and councils, and often NDP MP’s, and the rural areas display vastly different values in their voting patterns.

The complete opposite of reality. Most farmers I know have a wealth of abilities, skills, and knowledge about mechanics, chemicals, home building, etc. Most office workers I know are not able to do much of anything. And the Chattering Class who consider themselves so sophisticated? Bleah.

The Quebec Independence movement, had it been successful, would have yielded nothing but another smaller poorer Canada *without* French on cereal boxes. Even most French Canadians with any common sense could see the insanity of it. The PQ never commanded the support of a majority of Quebecers.
All the PQ really was was a block-busting operation with the tacit support of Bay Street. The threat of Independence frightened away large numbers of the English-speaking (disproportionately Jewish) productive classes, who were willing to sell their homes and businesses for less than their fair value. Fortunes were made ripping them off.
By contrast, the Social Credit Party of Alberta was the vanguard of a real—that is, anti-communist—workers’ and peasants’ revolution against Bay Street and a Canadian government which would have been only too happy to expropriate every last farmer in the province. The Socreds commanded the support of a majority of Albertans and were serious about doing *their* will, not Bay Street’s—much less the will of a media controlled by Bay Street.
The lie that any political self-assertion by Albertans dates back to the disinformation campaign against the Socreds, claiming that social credit was an anti-Semitic ideology—at a time when Ottawa was refusing to accept Jewish refugees from a Germany that really did have an anti-Semitic government.
