      2. I think it must be already. I found out about 6 months ago that Ontario is a “have-not” province (17 million population) and receives equalization payments. B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan are the only “have” provinces and have to support the rest of Canada and the Territories.
        This is what happens when energy rich provinces (such as Ontario and Quebec with their hydro electricity and nuclear plants) impose Carbon Taxes and treat people who actually produce something (as opposed to Government workers) as if they were garbage.

    3. They will shut down generators, and pay them to not produce power, because they have to be taken off line before they cause other issues with the grid. And when I say pay them not to produce power that means ratepayers will have yet another increase in the “Global Adjustment” because TANSTAAFL applies, and many of the contracts signed between IESO and power generators have minimum price floors.

      If you want an example, today if you look at the price tab at https://ieso.ca/Power-Data you’ll see that the HOEP hit zero multiple times. So the spread between the HOEP and the typical contract at $60/MWh means that in that time the Global Adjustment price goes up to compensate.

  13. Looks as though Ontario supplies most of its electricity to Michigan (Governor Witmer – remember she wanted to shut down the Canadian crude travelling through pipelines via her state?) and New York (Governor Hochul), both great friends of Trump (not).

    Trump puts in tariffs and Ford punishes Democrats. Trump increases the tariffs and Ford punishes the Democrats even more. Cut out the wine from California (another Trump stronghold) which is now off the shelves in Ontario and look where the steel plants are (say Pennsylvania which Trump carried in 2024, Ohio, Indiana) and I think I see a trend.

  18. What sort of tariffs has Ontario applied against China for its heavy tariffs against (mostly Western Canadian) agricultural products? None?

    China’s move of course was in retaliation for Canada placing tariffs against their steel & other products, in order to protect S. ON & QC industry.

    This whole tariff issue seems like a one-way street, and the ‘Team Canada’ approach seems to vanish when it’s not invoked to protect Central Canada’s interests.

I had a look at one of the sites which hates Loblaws, it seems Loblaws donates slightly more to the Conservatives, but if you ask the right leaning blogs they may report more is given to the #Libranos
          I expect if I shopped at Safeways or Sobeys or especially Calgary Coop, I’d spend 20% more on groceries, and more than that on fresh produce. It’s not possible to boycott them all.
          I do go to an independent grocery store for some of the produce, it’s almost always less $ too…

What I see is a bureaucratic arrangement first created with the Quebec Act (so the British didn’t have to enforce the law of the land in the territories it won after the Battle on the Plains of Abraham) into the current legislative modification of the BNA and doing whatever it can to stave off the inevitable merger into the Union of American States.
    Someone please explain how remaining wards of the state is preferable to restricting the state to limited authority and reach.
