Y2Kyoto: State Of Anorexia Envirosa

The UK has more than 11,000 wind turbines.

The UK is planning for several days over the winter when cold weather may combine with gas shortages, leading to organized blackouts for industry and even households.

Under the government’s latest “reasonable worst-case scenario,” Britain could face an electricity capacity shortfall totaling about a sixth of peak demand, even after emergency coal plants have been fired up, according to people familiar with the government’s planning. Under that outlook, below-average temperatures and reduced electricity imports from Norway and France could expose four days in January when the UK may need to trigger emergency measures to conserve gas, they said.

  1. “Britons face up to average annual energy bills possibly rising above £4,200 ($5,086) in January from just under £2,000 currently”

Double the energy costs, and you still may freeze in the dark this Winter? Welcome to the New Green Economy.

If those energy prices get too high, you can just cut out non-essentials like food and clothing. Maybe dip into your retirement savings too?

  2. In Ontariowe, a rough guesstimate for my household energy – NG and electricity – is $1500.00/y.
$75.00/mo. for electricity and $50.00/mo. for gas.
Gas is higher in the winter with the furnace running. Electricity is pretty consistent, although AC use can be a kick in the pants.

Doubling your energy budget means many will have to make cuts. Depending on income and lifestyle, certainly savings and entertainment will get punched. Maybe clothing as well.

For the poor it will mean food.
    That’s fcked up.
When the government is giving you a handout because their Central Planning has put a boot to your head, you might get a bit fckn angry.
Just don’t forget who you voted for.

Also, and its the case for electricity here in the middle of Frozenturdistan, the British government is subsidizing some of the actual energy costs with debt. We all know what debt does to finances, despite what the MMT experts spew.

    1. If everyone is getting their electricity bill subsidized by debt, I’m okay with that. But if it’s just certain people/businesses getting the subsidies, that’s phucked. In a normal world electricity would be priced so that everyone except the most destitute could afford the electricity to heat and light their homes. But when the government gets to decide who to subsidize they’re going to pick the same people every time while everyone else gets to pay their own bill and pay to subsidize the others too.

  3. “Organized blackouts” what a nice term. Government “efficiency experts” probably came up with it.

  4. According to our extended forecasts, 2022-2023 will be remembered as a time to shake, shiver, and shovel — a winter season filled with plenty of snow, rain, and mush as well as some record-breaking cold temperatures!”Aug 2, 2022

Sounds pretty normal for our winter so energy costs should soar. Turd will take more trips south.

As more windmills age out in the UK with a 15 year life span life should get to be more fun.

  5. Read this morning that the UK is normally in surplus for money collected from users for electricity, surplus money which dwindles away during the winter months as electricity use increases greatly. This year they are already in deficit – in August. Should be an interesting winter.

  6. If they are willing to publicly admit “4 days in January” you can bet the real situation is much much worse. Its the beginning of the softening up process.

15 days to flatten the curve, transitory inflation, safe and effective and all that.
