Yeah, a fair rundown of some of the issues. Well worth reading.
If you had some tariffs to protect your domestic production, this wouldn’t be such an issue. But, when your tariffs are at such a rates to the detriment of your largest trading partner (and not exactly looking out for the best interests of your own people) while engaging in free trade agreements with non-market countries (that also are a detriment to your largest trading partner as they allow for transshipment or favored trading status in violation of your trade agreement with us, which is to the detriment of your own domestic production too, by the way), then we have a big problem.
And then we get into some of the other, where trade melds into security issues (where you are also violating agreements made with us, and again not in your people’s best interests either). That’s also a very big problem as well.
Canada has been a “less than special” neighbour for decades. The fact that we have NEVER honored our NATO commitments for funding our military and have relied on the United States for protection is a major SIN for a supposedly sovereign country.
The United States under President Trump has finally said “No More” and “No Mas” (to Mexico). He has also taken to task Europe and is probably “super annoyed” at the way Europe has treated the American Armed Forces with the war with Iran.
When you constantly slag off your big neighbour, do not be surprised when they turn their back on you.
Thankfully Carney has two weeks to replace the US as consumer of 80% of Canada’s exports.

The deal will be signed..I predict sometime over Labour Day weekend. Carney has the elbozos riled up on his ‘hero’ status, Libs will win all three byelections next Tuesday. That leaves 8 days to kiss up to the US team sign the deal. Then, especially if it’s a bad deal, he can rile up the elbozos some more, calls an election to campaign on mean, nasty “Orange Man Bad ™” and a Lib super majority is had, leaving us to watch our country implode.
Canada and Canadians will only learn the hard way.
And in order to fix the place, its going to have to completely go to hell.
Again … KM … when I immediately declared your PM’s long-winded Trade WAR Soeech sounded more like a campaign speech than a thoughtful response to Trade talks … I seem to recall some pushback against that simple, obvious, analysis. Well … now with even more time and hindsight … it appears as though that’s EXACTLY what it was … a rallying cry to all the elbows-out numbskulls.

As a neighbor to the north I used to make runs across the border for business or just for fun rather often. I’ve always understood I was a guest in your country and no matter if I agreed with your laws, rules, regulations as a guest I’d of course comply. Back in the day such concerns were minor
However I’ve not visited for at least a decade, Canada’s no longer a place I enjoy being or even passing through.
I do miss the Canada that was.
I think the most important point of the post is that we need to get China (and India) out of Canada.
