    2. The number of labs and their testing capabilities do not rise in concert with the exponential rise of the number of infections.

      If you take these numbers at face value, there shouldn’t be cases popping up willy nilly on cruise ships and offices in Germany by virtue of having a visitor from Wuhan pass through — unless the infection rate in Wuhan is much, much higher than they’re stating. Which it is. Take that to the bank.

  2. The true numbers are probably even greater than 250k. China ran out of tests weeks ago. I imagine the stock of antibiotics is also running low right about now. You’re sick, go to the hospital, see a doctor. No test so they send you home. Since you haven’t tested positive for the virus, you’re not counted.
    So go home and die or get rounded up, taken to a camp, or a gym, with a thousand other people. If you didn’t have the virus you’ll get it. No treatment, so you die.
    If you are dumb enough to believe anything the Chinese government says, then there’s no hope for you.

  4. If the coronavirus outbreak happens to be ten times larger with a mortality rate 5 times higher than official reports it won’t take long for the truth to become painfully obvious. It would be like hiding an angry rhino in my Dad’s packrat garage where the only option is to bust out. My gut is telling me things aren’t as bad as Tencent’s numbers because cases outside of China at least so far aren’t seen as soaring (thank the Lord!). In any case time will tell.

    1. If one has no familiarity with China, one could be forgiven for thinking that China is a first-world nation, especially if all one has seen is “approved” video from the cities.

      The truth is that culturally China is still a third-world country, with third-world superstitions and third-world standards of hygiene.

      On a business trip to China, in a large city near the factory I had to visit, I saw the following:
      – a woman changing the diaper of her infant on a planter outside a commercial building; the used wipes she simply tossed into the soil of the planter
      – people defecating off a bridge into a river polluted with industrial effluent, upstream from people fishing
      – spitting, constantly, everywhere (the Chinese consider spitting healthy, and the more phlegm one coughs up, the healthier it is. Back home in Canada, our office was told in no uncertain terms our lease would be terminated if we couldn’t keep the Chinese employees from spitting in the bathroom sinks and on the floor)

      I’m not overly worried about the spread of 2019-nCoV because what little foothold it’s gotten outside of China has been mild, at best. In first world countries with first-world standards of medical care and a culture that understands basic hygiene, it’s not spreading and it’s not lethal.

      1. well danny boy, I was in Guangzhou the first week of dec/19, and saw nothing like that, maybe you just happened to accidently get off the plane in San Fran, which is a schitt hole first worldy city, and I have sen just as bad right here in toronto, were drunk/drug addled “street people shit and piss right out in the open, or behind planters.Or when I worked for a cleaning service, the women’s shitter was littered with USED sanitary napkins.

      2. It probably doesn’t help that smoking is a huge addiction among Chinese adults. I think I saw more older Chinese men with cigs hanging from their lips than not walking around various cities. Given the harsh respiratory effects of coronavirus being a decades long smoker can’t be a good thing. That said I’m 100% for closing the borders to travelers from any nation experiencing a dangerous outbreak until there’s obvious signs it’s under control.

  6. I do not believe the Chinese. I think the Chinese are lying and that they are also using this crisis to get rid of people they find difficult. However that being said, I still think the virus is not as bad as a lot of people fear. It could still mutate and become worse but I don’t think it will.

    Imagine what this virus will do when it gets into a facility full of people like a prison or a Uighar Reeducation Camp?
