Excusing Malevolence In The Name Of Piety

One of the explanations of ill behaviour, if you like, is a kind of mechanical one. People have certain experiences and they react to them in a certain self-destructive way, as if their behaviour was that of a billiard ball being impacted by another billiard ball… [But] agency is extremely important. You don’t deny that things are more difficult for some people than for others, but if you deny the agency of people, then you begin to treat them as objects rather than as subjects.

  1. We are all objects in the view of those on the left of the political spectrum.

      1. Harris was a Lefty deep agent. He tried to foist Belinda Stronach on conservatives by recommending her as a contender for Leadership of the new created CPC. It took Alberta 19 years to get to that step in Canadian politics and Harris recommends Belinda for leadership? Feck Ontario, Feck Canada.

  2. Offenders/Criminals should be asked one question: “What length of term in prison will make you stop?” This on the understanding that, if it doesn’t, then a subsequent offence permanently removes them from society.

    1. Oddly enough, they’ve tried asking real criminals this. They will tell you upfront—someone messes with you, you kill him. In public. As a deterrent it works like a charm.

(Yes, your mama will bawl like a little girl when you’re laid out. Nobody wants to do that to his mama, so have some rispeck.)

No, prison doesn’t fix who aren’t worth trying to fix. Bullets and rope do.

Just in general, deterring crime is much easier than it’s made out to be. All one has to do is make the law code impossible to misunderstand, and enforce it, without apology or concessions to lawbreakers.

      1. For once I agree with you. Pax Romana and Pax Britannia didn’t happen because the Romans and British were soft, fuzzy, and nice.

  3. “What length of term in prison will make you stop?”

    They eventually stop on death-row.

Otherwise enlightened societies allow citizens to protect themselves from the incorrigible before they are harmed themselves.

    1. “They eventually stop on death-row.”
Then this would be a shortcut, and would avoid all the interim sentences.
The implication behind the question is that “You WILL stop, but you have one chance, which you can select, before we go to ‘Option B'”

  4. “What length of term in prison will make you stop?”

2% are psychopaths whose ancestors were shipped over to the penile colonies and some become CEOs and politicians & others violent offenders.
Another 10% +++ are sociopaths cuz of their genetics and/or how they were raised.
The females of the sociopath variety are increasing in numbers cuz of family breakdown.
Plus being promiscuous at 14 doesn’t help even if Vogue says it’s OK.
Buyer beware. Don’t end up impregnating a sociopath. They do background checks for marriage licenses but no checks for sociopathy

  5. Its a british parliamentary thing…this viewing of crime as a Mental Health issue, and therefore we must treat them with soft hands and Fk th Victims. As its been for 50 yrs here…

Total Denial that there are actually those out there who for the PURE joy would rape your wife/daughters in front of you before they dismember them. Break into your home and beat the living shit outa ya…more for that than to steal yer big screen TV and yer wallet.

In Canada of course via decades of squeamish gutless STUPID Liberal Pandering we have the the prospect of actual Terrorists being set free to roam our country. LIBERAL JUdges.

This is where we are going and we’re accelerating….

      1. Funny, I don’t recall swearing allegiance to the U. N. when I applied for security clearance.

        1. If we take them back, can we then ship them to their country of origin by trebuchet?

          Just asking for a friend.

  6. This guy alleged:

The act of policing is, in order to punish less often, to punish more severely.

  7. It just might be,that if you are too dangerous to be loose in society, you are too dangerous to live.
I dislike prisons, the whole system destroys society.
Is it punishment or reward to lock a lazy person up?
Is being a prison guard a worthwhile career ?
Do those skills a person learns, keeping dangerous idiots in a cage, enhance society?
What kind of prison guard loves their work?
We arguably need a minimum of government,to educate the stupid and lazy born to each generation.
For having an agreed upon “authority” to chastise those who would just take what they want and those who would freeload if possible, prevents family feuds.
Becoming upset enough that you will exact vengeance or apply justice as you see it,is very uncomfortable.
It makes for a much harder society.
And it leads to endless conflict with others who disagree with your point of view.
So we evolved the justice system, which worked reasonably well.
Reasonably well of course being relative, what is reasonable now?
The NDP is on the record,”We must provide a comfortable living via welfare,or these people will otherwise steal what they desire”.
Liberals, our progressive comrades, see criminals as clients and a means to power.
Look at our useless RCMP,they protect their clients over the citizen.
We have been treated now to numerous accounts of police informants on crime sprees, while the Cops provide them cover.
“No obligation to protect” , the citizen that is.
Crime pays well, that is why our government wants zero competition.
Every supreme court decision implies the citizen is the criminal, while the actual thieves are “above the law”.
So deeply a kleptocracy is Canada that we must really question the faith.
If fools and bandits govern, for their own benefit, what is a crime?

How did defending your life, property or loved ones become criminal?
How does justice work,if truth is not a defence?
How did oathbreaking,”serve and protect”, “Obey the law” “Serve this country” become the norm?

When did we,society, decide we could not acknowledge the existence of evil?
Is human nature now a taboo topic?
    Hate crimes all round.
How did we ever swallow the nonsense of “Hate crime”?
I need a new country, one small enough that we can argue these important details.

  8. Use decimation. Kill one out of 10. Rope or bullets. Sell tickets and the money goes to victims of crime.
Its not a solution and isn’t meant to be one.
I will also add that if criminality disappears so has freedom.

  9. “but if you deny the agency of people, then you begin to treat them as objects rather than as subjects.”

First off, people are NOT subjects, they are citizens. Secondly, Gubmint representatives 1st responsibility is to protect the citizens who have elevated them, as individuals, to seats of power.

Citizen recitative offenders are not just career criminals, they have chosen to be Outlaws(non-Citizens) as a lifestyle choice.
^Now the above statement^ used to mean more to me and differently, before I realized that Government was the Bitch of Elites who want to KILL ME instead of ‘Servant of the People’, than it does now. Citizens who just broke laws used to be outlaws.

NOW, ‘Outlaws’ really need close scrutiny by me to decide whether they are a threat to me, or just a threat to Bad Government.
