  2. That was a whole lot of political theatre because she was clearly not the right person to be brought to the committee to answer these questions. It serves both sides: the Republicans get to make hay about the Project Veritas report, and Google gets to obsfucate about what was revealed.

And you pretended to believe that title actually means she is somehow immune-from and ignorant-of corporatewide Google policy. She convinced you that she doesn’t know of any bias whatsoever within the most great and benevolent Google Empire. She gave you the “little girl” Dr. Blazy-Hazy recollection Ford voice of victimhood, coupled with the awkward theatre of unnecessarily turning on, then turning off her microphone. And what a perfect metaphor that on-off switch of the microphone was for her FAKE, filtered, “testimony”. Mic. on … she gives you the “curated” Google corporate AI answer. Mic. off … she resumes Google anti-conservative policies.

      I am actually most disappointed with the bearded Sen. Cruz. His questioning and placards will be forgotten tomorrow. Google will go back to business (STOPPPING the Free Votes of the American people from ever happening again) as usual. Cruz got HIS FaceTime and gets to keep all HIS social media, but you won’t. Here’s an idea, Sen. Cruz … start enforcing the existing anti-trust Laws that are on the books. How about introducing a Bill, instead of your forgettable placards?

      In the final hours, when the public finally takes back the public square from these AI ghouls … will you believe her when she says she … “was just following orders”.

  8. Is Google doing anything illegal here?[1] No. s.230 of the CDA expressly allows Google to do exactly what it’s doing. You can argue that s.230 should be resinded, but that will – not may, will – destroy the Internet as we know it.

    Google does not have a monopoly any more than the New York Times does. Alphabet, Inc. can’t make you use Google if you don’t want to. This whole thing is a sideshow that allows soi-disant conservatives to posture and whine about their nonexistent “rights” and if taken to its logical conclusion will result in government control of the Internet that will have you begging for the days when Kathy and Kate had to apologize in public on their own blogs for being mean to Richard Warman.

    [1] I think there’s ample evidence that they’re engaging in other behaviour that may violate federal laws on information security, trade with embargoed foreign powers, etc. but “not liking conservatives” isn’t illegal.

    1. Google engage in collusion, conspiracy, and violations of RICO on a daily basis all over the world. Ever wonder why rival search engines are so behind them? They get (Google) fined repeatedly on this basis. When there are legitimate conservative-friendly alternatives to Google, I’d agree with you. As for not using Google, … apploed for any jobs lately? Had a coding issue you need to get sorted?

    Saying thank-you at the beginning of every non answer you give is a useless affectation and adds nothing to your credibility.

    1. So true! And the mic.-on, mic.-off switch is ridiculous. As if to say … you are only going to hear what I want you to hear. You don’t even get to hear me breathe betw. questions. That practice should be STOPPED during public testimony. You are before the Committee, in Public. If you and your Lawyer need “privacy” to discuss your answer … too bad. You don’t get that option in a court of Law … you shouldn’t get it in a Congressional Hearing. We aren’t interviewing your team of Attorneys … we’re interviewing YOU.

    Unless they are stopped. If they say they are making business decisions, they can do so without any state enablement.
    If they try then we can discuss anti-trust, protections for which must be removed. Most of all, let the market punish them.
    Look at the twits “banning” political ads leading up our election campaign? In my world it’s called foregoing revenues.

    If this sow refuses to answer simple questions, replace her and the rest of the top brass at Google with good Americans who will be happy to co-operate with law enforcement’s efforts to answer the questions for her.

    Then, maybe, we’ll get straight answers about what Google is playing at and on whose behalf, and Silicon Valley will learn that there’s no money in being the catspaw of enemies of the United States.

    Then, maybe, they’ll invest their piles of cash in industries that employ Americans and produce things normal people can actually use, like food, fuel, cars and houses fit to raise a family in.

    I have been saying ” Google is evil” since , back when Bush was President, Google helped China persecute their own people and the same year Google refused to provide information to the USA that could have helped catch muslim terrorists.

    Rich businessmen who avoid paying taxes because their money and companies are registered in some far way tax haven are not doing anything illegal, yet it is wrong.

    1. CF…that discussion is beyond the intellectual scope of many people. Google and other big “corporations” are not the only evil ones. Political parties, religious cults, and many other orgs can be just as damaging to a democracy.

      Yes. And if you’re doing those things and they affect enough people, BADLY, then you get a Congressional Committee to investigate you and perhaps Legislate your specific ACTIVIES to be Illegal. Not your Business, mind you, just what you DO with it.
      There you have it, Government protecting Citizens from Evil Doers, who use their Business to Do EVIL, who would have thought?
