Who are we to judge what is perverted these days and what is not? Personally, I think sexting is pretty innocuous — at least in comparison to some of the other stuff that is now legally protected, even promoted in some contexts. My understanding is that this type of exposure goes on regularly at the gay parades — and these are such wonderful Canadian community events that our PM does not miss even one. So this comment was disabled on the CBC site re Tony Clement — not sure why as it is not offensive in my view. Primarily I was trying to point out our hypocrisy as a society.

It shows poor judgement and lack of self-control. On top of that, Clement is in a political position where blackmail can affect the political process and national security. This is not a trivial lapse of judgement and it’s more than simple extortion. Politicians, judges, military, police, etc. must be held reponsible for behaviour that threatens the integrity of our institutions. Having compromising material on government personnel can give shady people/organizations a lot of power.
At least he fessed up and the extortion attempt can be investigated.
