  1. Yeah, tell us (Ontario taxpayers) something we don’t know. The only ones feeling good about this budget are lieberals and the slush fund special interest groups.
Gas is going up, so is natural gas, booze and of course cigs for those who smoke. Only thing not going up is my pension.

  2. It’s the sheer hypocrisy. Cap and Trade schemes will reduce CO2 emissions by 0%. The liberals don’t give a d*mn about reducing CO2, this is a tax grab pure and simple. When everybody can buy a get out of jail card free, then nobody goes to jail.

  3. This, of course, will be used as a model for future economic by Red Rachel and her asinine Alberta anarchists.

  4. Didn’t the carbon trading business collapse 5 or 10 years ago because they found a way to provide an unlimited supply of carbon credits and they ran out of suckers?

  5. Truly we are living in Cloud Cuckooland. Anybody else ready to take a pitchfork and head for Queen’s Park or are we all too urban and sissy to have pitchforks these days. I know, machetes, so we can proclaim ourselves aggrieved minorities and be charged with nothing.

  6. Soon to be implemented by Just-in for all Canadians to participate in. Of course the LIEberals will add it on to existing “carbon footprint” policies of the provinces. Canada has one of the biggest carbon absorption things on the face of the earth … trees. They absorb carbon … in summer it is aided by farmers crops … for free.
(sarcasm on) I think they should charge ALL people who exercise. After all, they breath faster than a couch-potato. Why should a person not exercising pay more? (Sarcasm off)

  7. The failure of carbon markets to do anything other than raise living costs for taxpayers, enrich criminals and crony capitalists (redundant, really), and create slush funds for politicians is well known.
Europol – Europe’s transnational criminal investigations unit – announced that:
criminals have gamed the EU’s Emissions Trading System for a cool $7.4 billion in purloined tax revenues. […] By the time volume peaked last May and early June, Europol investigators say, up to 90 percent of the trade in some European countries was totally bogus.
    And:
According to the Wall Street Journal:
Not only does the taxpayer carry the cost of any cap and trade scheme, but their money also provides profit for a whole new industry: the carbon trading sector, the middlemen who make the system work.

As noted in the link ETS, cap and trade is a variation of the Baptists and Bootleggers scenario. Baptists protest about the sin of alcohol, politicians pass Prohibition, bootleggers get stinking rich selling illegal booze and get away with it by paying off corrupt politicians and other officials. Substitute Environmental Activists, Politicians and Goldman Sach types. It’s not suprising that the two provinces who are implementing the scheme are ones that have recently been implicated in shady dealing. The majority of the media have become Baptists in the CAGW debate and the will be shocked and appalled in a few years when the fraud is discovered.

  8. “The failure of carbon markets to do anything other than raise living costs for taxpayers, enrich criminals and crony capitalists (redundant, really), and create slush funds for politicians is well known. …”
So, not a failure. It worked as they meant it to work.

  9. Must be that winning Ontario Advantage.
Voters getting what they voted for, good and hard.
About the only way to save Ontario from Toronto, would be to make Toronto a province in its own right due to divergence of interests.
AKA open revolt in the hinterland.
The collapse of equalization will aid such an effort.
Due to the dominance of large city population over regional citizens we see the constant destruction of property rights and the expansion of the Kleptocracy.
    Government is theft.
The contempt toward productive citizens is beyond arrogance.
That bureaucrats promote policy raping the citizen of income and wealth, insisting that they the non productive collective(Statists) are better informed as to how citizens shall use their properties and efforts, defies all the foundations of civil society.
They are entitled. To your entitlements.
I keep wondering, as the blade defends, will these thieves consider their personal destruction as “success”?
Is this madness all an experiment by mentally ill persons to see just what it takes to release the mob?

  10. Yep, it’s not a coincidence that these politicians chose the CO2 rationing scheme that is the most expensive, least effective, highly bureaucratic and has massive corruption. The European ETS wasn’t a cautionary tale for them it was a get rich fast guide.
Another Baptist comparison – Why do you always take two Baptists fishing? Answer: If you only bring one he’ll drink all your beer. If you bring two then you’ll have the beer all to yourself. How many politicians, media personalities, celebrities and enviro-activists really practice what they preach when it comes to carbon footprints?

  11. The unionized civil service cheer this, as now .gov has unlimited supplies of cash to “fund” cs pensions & continue those 3-6% a year pay raises. Wait a bit & we’ll all see the unions out on strike for “cost of living” increases, as the $$$ crashes & inflation eats away at cs pay scales. Some things never change. I remember the 80’s, just like the next 10 years, I’m thinking. You’re going to hear “tighten your belts”, “wage & price controls” & “double digit interest rates”…’cause GOVERNMENT DEBT.
Infrastructure “investments” are nothing but pork, pork, pork, pork, pork, pork.

  12. Not to mention redistributing wealth into “progressive” education facilities via “free” tuition.

  13. In the past, increases in the taxes on booze, cigarettes and gasoline were routine and expected. They didn’t bother to try and sell it as “saving the planet”. How stupid do they think we are? Obviously enough people are stupid enough to keep them in power.

  14. Out of chaos: order. But first they must create the chaos. Don’t worry it’s all part of the plan.

  15. The whole carbon/cap & trade thing has to be looked at another way. It is a system that will keep afloat the current elitist establishment’s lifestyle, another whole layer of bureaucracy for well-connected friends/companies, where nepotism reigns supreme. This is just another money/power grab in order to finance the upper class lifestyle.
Once the global system is established, who and what kinds of people benefit? The ones that believe in the climate change mantra are going to profit. Where do you think they are going to go when they finish their premierships, government minister positions, etc., but up. Up to next layer that they’ve just established.

  16. The Clintons used to routinely invoke … “the children” in ALL of their taxation schemes. “Think of … the children” Bill would say while biting his bottom lip and holding back a tear. Shrillary would shriek … “Republicans simply HATE your children. Republicans would kill your children and barbeque them for lunch”. Yep. TAX the shite out of the poor suckers … all in the name of … “the children”.
Here’s an idea … what if all these draconian taxes and the destruction of our CHEAP energy infrastructure is actually doing WAY MORE HARM to your children’s future than any infinitesimal reduction in planetary Co2 ?

  17. The truly scary part is Wynne is Trudeau’s mentor, cut from the statist cloth with the same autocratic advisors. How much more of this double talk are Ontarians prepared to take, how much pain will make them put stop this this taxaction insanity? How about the rest of Canada?
We tax your dirty consumption. You sit on the bus for three hours, so don’t drive, mostly because you’ve got no job to go to, and voila we “transform the economy.” What a vile and arrogant statement! To infant technologies like windmills & solarwaste? If they give $billions to climate rent seekers they could get renewable to 5% or something. Anyway, does Kingston really need power 24 hours a day; c’mon you people gotta sleep sometime.
No, besides pulling $billions out of the economy, nothing changes except people pay more, go ahead and “pollute,” those who can, no big deal a hundred here, a hundred there. Well except for hardworking families working 2+ jobs to get to pay even more taxes. Except for the working poor, they don’t have to drive after all, as if these apparatchiks have a clue or care, living in their cocooned communities. Do the Grits want to unroll the tax relief Harper gave the poor as they redefine us? How long can they pile on “a little more?” We’ll see as tinned eared, economically illiterate politicians control the treasury.
Right, it’s just a tax to make the rich less rich, to narrow the “gap.” Too bad they actually make the poor poorer, as Margaret Thatcher famously stated, with the middle class around for the ride down. Uh, but social justice, oh, scratch that, climate justice is now the challenge of our generation, not limiting runaway government, or terrorists planning our demise, or, how disagreeable so therefore racist, the poor. No, the SJWs already ditched them.
People are done with these statist shake down artists. Trudeau, and Wynne to some degree got in under the discontentment wire. Trump is proving that southward; love him or hate him, he’s taking it to the establishment, with Bernie’s help, refusing to be defined by the mediocracy or give anyone a free ride. We could learn from that here. Redefine the whole game as Trump has, get government off our backs.
I understand the all Canadian panel from Central Canada, except Rex, have some thoughts on government. I’ll take just Rex’s POV thank you:
“Statements made in a campaign, by any politician, should come with a health warning.”

  18. Nothing to do with clean air for the children, more like clean wallets for the children, and their children, and the children’s children . . .

  19. My solution, if you really want to make a difference and you actually believe in Global Warming:
    REGULATION AND RATIONING
You simply regulated the hell of polluters and force car companies to build 100 mile/gallon cars.
You give people gas ration cards and it doesn’t matter who you are, you are only allowed to use so much fuel to drive and to heat your home. If you have a huge home or 4 like David Suzuki; buy some extra blankets and start chopping wood.
Than all these Liberal do-gooders can actually make a real difference. A guarantee ya they won’t be wasting gas driving to protests to end fossil fuel use.

  20. If warmists truly wanted to decrease CO2 they would brutally tax fuel, electricity produced from fossil fuel, and anything produced from fossil fuel such as plastics. Then they would use 100% of the cash to build hydro dams and nuke plants. They could legislate brutally harsh standards on insulating buildings and subsidize them.

  21. We need a public test of the virtue of these planet saviours .
After all if Carbon is the evil they claim, they should be the first to be decarbonized.
Plasma Arc would be a good way to ensure their spiritual purity.
Every tax scheme shares the same MO, take from the many, funnel that wealth through a collective filter (Feed the parasite), use the residual to empower the parasites enablers and protect them from legal prosecution.
No political party in Canada, is currently defending the citizens rights to private property and protection from theft.
Pretty hard to do when government is theft.
I love “Sin Taxes”, Ok government taxes punitively behaviour they disapprove of, undesirable behaviour by the plebs…OK take that as a given.
    So what about Income?
The taxes and fees currently imposed on productive behaviour by these parasites certainly spells out their disapproval of productive activities.
When did the parasites get to decide what the hosts shall eat?

  22. They’d have to strongly consider ending coal exports to China. No, they’re hypocrite watermelons more interested in political than environmental outcomes. Instead of demanding social license from industry, watermelons should state their economic case, not smoke and mirrors of 5% renewables. Oh, they don’t actually have a case, sort of like their subset the anti-frackers? Tax is tax – income, sin, luxury, carbon, bigger government – and it keeps piling on when our boomer dominated population can least handle it. An identical economy produces a surplus for one government (sorry, spare us the FY crap, outgoing govt not responsible for new spending past Nov/15), and possibly a $30b (3x “promised”) for the next with no payback for the citizen but plenty of tax/debt hangover later.
Some argue it took until 2013 to repay PET’s debt. Actually it’s worse than that. Yes borrowing happened afterwards, but was surely due to interest payment on the hangover of Pierre’s statism. Without his debt, government could likely have run many more balanced/surplus budgets, but were forced to borrow for debt servicing.
That hangover is still there, now Trudeau, in his own inept way, will add more debt, for the grandchildren to pay back. Remember the promise to hold the growth of federal debt below GDP growth? Gone, along with $10b deficits, or balanced budgets ever, with at least $15b added in structural deficits.
Meanwhile the under 15 population equals the 65+ population, who now increase relatively. They’re fairly healthy right now, but the first boomers turn 80 in 2027, more than half the population will be over 65 by 2030. Their cost are already cascading across the economy.
Abysmally low financing to meet the pension and medical costs have been set aside or identified. Unfunded actuarial liabilities at all levels are likely near $1t. How long will it be before our public unfunded liabilities are the size of our economy’s output? No long folks.
That’s why this is precisely the wrong to pile on record setting government debt.

  23. Well I’m finally going to try quitting smoking for good, not because of health reasons I like smoking but because I want to try and help starve the Ontario Liberals of as much money as I can, because that’s the only thing that is going to stop them. If people think Ontario can take a Federal twin of Wynne’s they have another thing coming. I don’t think even Modern Liberals can lie enough to hide how broke we are going to become. Shame on business by the way once again, watching your customers take it over and over,. Karma will be a b—-.
Absolute full blown garbage and people will buy it until they just can’t miss the truth because it’s biting them in the a– so hard they can’t ignore it any longer.

  24. “We’re transforming the way our economy works,” Sousa said.
I believe they already tried this “way” somewhere else and they refer to it as socialism.

  25. I am angered beyond belief. It is all my middle class household can do to go without so we can hopefully squirrel away enough money to get my daughter through at least 4 years of post secondary education. Now this kleptocracy wants to make my family sacrifice more so that others can have a free ride? Unacceptable. I now have nothing but contempt and hatred for the ideology that enabled this pack of theives. I vow to undermine this government at every opportunity. Eff them all…
