The awaited weakening of Canada’s security begins.
The current law also has a provision that requires people to declare they intend to continue residing in Canada if granted citizenship. That raised concerns among some new Canadians that they could lose their citizenship if they moved outside of Canada. The new law would repeal this provision.
Lebanon breathes a sigh of relief.
I wonder what our allies think?

Great comment fron comments section:
“Garry Horsnell
On February 25, 2016, Canada’s Minister of Citizenship, John McCallum, announced Bill C-6 (2016) that will repeal and make changes to certain sections of the Citizenship Act made according to the Harper Conservative Bill C-24.
If a Canadian with dual citizenship commits and is convicted of committing a terrorist act, the federal government will no longer revoke that Canadian terrorist’s citizenship and won’t deport the terrorist to his or her country of origin.
McCallum also said there shouldn’t be two classes of Canadians. McCallum kept saying a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian.
Well, I’m a Canadian. I was born and raised in Canada but I’m not also a citizen of another country and I don’t have dual citizenship so I’m different from a Canadian with dual citizenship.
If McCallum doesn’t want two classes of Canadians, why doesn’t Canada eliminate dual citizenship and make all Canadians the same?
McCallum also said a person’s Canadian citizenship could be revoked if the person lied or committed fraud to get Canadian citizenship.
Here is the oath of Canadian citizenship “I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen”.
If a person comes to Canada from another country and takes the oath of citizenship and then commits a terrorist act, wouldn’t that person have lied under oath and committed fraud to get Canadian citizenship? Shouldn’t that be grounds to revoke that terrorist’s citizenship?
Again, McCallum said a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian. Well, here is what it says in Section 718.2 (e) of the Criminal Code of Canada “all available sanctions, other than imprisonment, that are reasonable in the circumstances and consistent with the harm done to victims or to the community should be considered for all offenders, with particular attention to the circumstances of Aboriginal offenders”.
Aboriginal (indigenous) people in Canada get special attention under the law. Are aboriginal (indigenous) people in Canada like all other Canadians? Do they think a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian?”
Well, as Trudeau states, we are the first “post-national” country, so why should we place any value on Canadian citizenship? I meant that comment to be snarky but realize that this really saddens me.
It’s no surprise that the country’s Muslim population is skyrocketing. One-quarter of all immigrants head for just one city, Toronto.

Valley Park Middle School, at a public school in Toronto, a cafeteria becomes a mosque on Friday afternoons so that Muslim students can listen to an imam from a nearby mosque and pray towards Mecca.
Should they fence off Toronto ??
“Should they fence off Toronto ??”
They should have fenced that piece of crap city long ago! I truly hope that 100% of all these “refugees” stay in Ontariowe,Queerbec, and the Maritimes. Let them reap what they have sown.
You think it is bad now, just wait until you see the Canada of four years from now with unopposed Muslim Brotherhood influence in Ottawa.
If Quebec should ever separate, there must be the condition that they take Toronto with them.
Don’t worry about it, Ken, after the libranos pass their new euthanasia laws in June they’ll see that we old timers are well looked after. I suppose I don’t need a sarc tag.
They can take Vancouver as well. Many of the people I knew there behaved as if the rest of Canada was an inconvenience to them.
That is a good point about the dual-citizens who come to Canada violating their citizenship oath. I think this should be sufficient to take away their citizenship. John Ivison points out that this is no different from other forms of lying to gain citizenship. Liberals are being hypocrites on this.
Then we’ll never be rid of them.
Goodbye Cuba – Glad to see you again Omar !
I think the best thing about big cities like Vancouver and Toronto is that they keep those people concentrated where they aren’t cluttering up the nice parts of the country. That would be inconvenient for the rest of us.
Anyone who bothered to listen to the left during the last election should not be the least bit surprised by these stories.
They talked incessantly about how they would “undo ALL the damage” that they claimed Harper had done. Wow, the MSM created this false impression of Harper and is now helping the federal Liberals rewrite history that is only months old.
This has gone faaar beyond defunding, these f$ckers are clearly interfering in our system of Democracy and should be criminally charged for their collusion and betrayal of the taxpaying electorate.
Gee, hope I made that clear enough.
.
Yeah, I love it when they claim they are being persecuted and fear for their lives in their home country. Then, after getting citizenship or becoming permanent residents, and signing up for a plethora of government freebies, move back to their hell-hole country of origin.
If you vote for nincompoops with your eyes wide open you can’t complain when they act like nincompoops.
When the Liberals are finished,we will have lost the guts of everything our forefathers built this country on, fought and died for.
It’s not only the Harper government policies they’re killing it’s part of their ongoing fight to expunge everything tied to the Monarchy. The Liberal Republic of Canada anyone?
Could not agree more. It is time that Canadians recognized that the Liberals have sold out to the one-world-government being pushed by the UN. Canadian sovereignty will begone before the Liberals reach the 4-year mark. And you are right, the signals were there, but the media chose instead to jump on the anti-Harper narrative. Canada — used to be a nice country. Too bad.
“…Liberals are being hypocrites on this.”
Because a terrorist is a Canadian is a Liberal voter.
Go Galt. Stop paying for these morons. Let the F***** burn.
John McCallum: It was in our platform and we are entitled to make the changes
Also mentioned was “Budgets balance themselves” Will they legislate that as well?
To paraphrase McCallum: An idiot is an idiot is an idiot.
@Knight:
McCallum is a bonafide liberal moron. I have to switch channels when he comes on spouting his inane mental trash.
The only thing to make places like Vancouver and Toronto complete is to put fences around them.
Why not? PET openly despised the monarchy and did whatever he could to remove it from Canada.
Like Trump or not.
His message here isays it all.
We are in big trouble with the current leadership.
Lord help us!!

You might remember that about 30 years ago, there were a number of incidents here in Canada. Certain Armenians went after Turkish diplomats and, as I recall, there were some shootings.
Eventually, someone in charge told both parties to smarten up and take their beefs some place else. Canada wasn’t going to be someone else’s shooting range.
That, of course, might change, thanks to Prime Minister Cranial Vacuum.
for maaaaaaany years I have likened tranna as a tumor on the body Canada. the similarities are many, like commandeering and sucking up the host’s sustenance for itself, uncontrolled growth, pirating the normal functions.
a godd**mn tumor with Lieberal written all over it.
the ‘infrastructure improvements’ supposedly going to be financed by the irreversable sale of Ontario Hydro? tranna gonna get the lion’s share in exchange for all those votes. that’s politics !!! a local group protesting the plan rightfully compare it to a payday loan.
migod, if they can get that condition on the referendum I will take up residence in montreal just long enough to vote in favour. LOL !!!!
the one thing that baffles me about tranna to no end, is why, why, why do retirees who do NOT need to be there to work, hang around when they could sell for 3 times the price of other normal centres, especially in this million-dollars-for-a-shythole housing market.
oh, wait, they’re liberals with no common sense.

“If you vote for nincompoops with your eyes wide open you can’t complain when they act like nincompoops”
The problem is that the Liberal nincompoops drank the cool-ail and are all on board with what their elitists masters tell them(They’re not complaining). It’s just us, and the majority of Canadians who don’t bother to vote.
Regardless, whether the majority of Canadians spoke up, Liberal Canada and it’s parties will continue bow to their own EU Progressive masters and ride over public opinion as they have done throughout the EU.
Ultimately there will be civil war to break the Progressive governments out of power – watch Europe over the next few years as the canary in the coal mine.
Come to Toronto everyone – headscarf heaven of the Western World.
Week by week you see the number of headscarfs grow.
I suspect Canada is going to be in for a nasty shock if the Donald is elected.
At what point does importing non citizens to enhance your vote count, become treason?
Oaths are important.
Except to progressives.
You must obey, their laws, but they are exempt.
Trump is the last political effort before the citizens, refresh the republic.
And if he fails, that cleansing will cross the border.
I sense the silence of canadian conservatives is not a stunned reaction to losing, more a sober reassessment of what did we accomplish?
How did the renewed conservative party serve the citizen?
Wherefore private property, personal responsibility and the reduction of government theft?
What reforms?
How did the CPC differ from the LPC?
How do I reconcile my values with those espoused by eastern canadians?
Does the West Want IN ?
They are cluttering up the rest of the country. I live in a small city on the edge of the GTA and a few years ago a big shiny new mosque was built down town overlooking Memorial Park and our war memorial. You can guarantee that it wasn’t paid for with donations form the local inbred illiterate bad taxi driver community.
It’s times like these when I know my country really depreciates me.
“If McCallum doesn’t want two classes of Canadians, why doesn’t Canada eliminate dual citizenship and make all Canadians the same?”
this is the crux of the argument and can be extrapolated ad infinitum. if you are going to wax poetic – as in a rose is a rose is a rose ( + by any other name ); surely we are all prepared to strike down all the other accomodations writ large that constitute differences contrived and multiplied ad nauseum by multiculturism’s present understanding of justice.
we are not the same – but before the law we are equal. is that just a theory?

My family lost our citizenship about 11 years ago, under the last government, because Dad was a WWII Canadian soldier (sergeant in Artillery) and Mom was his War Bride. We arrived here to join Dad via a War Bride ship in 1946, got citizenship on arrival as per legislation at the time, and lived here all our lives (worked, farmed, paid taxes, brother joined the Canadian Navy and later served on a police force). Yet all those years later, suddenly we were told, along with thousands of others, that we should never have been given that citizenship in the first place, Dad did not qualify as he was out of the country for over 5 years (with the Army i.e. D-Day and the Liberation). I was told, harshly, that I could be charged with federal offences for having voted all those years. In 2010, I was turned down for a Permanent Resident Card and told my documents were no longer valid. So we are still here but can’t vote or travel, along with other restrictions.
Worse, under Bill C-24, suddenly our children, all adults, born here, really good citizens in Canada, had their citizenship downgraded to second class – the reason was that, due to having a parent born in wartime Britain because of grandparents serving in the Canadian military, they are all entitled to UK citizenship automatically. Even if they were to somehow managed to renounce it, they would still be eligible to reclaim it, unless they had committed some crime which would elicit stripping of citizenship.
So, although I am still working on restoration of citizenship for my brother and I and not sure we’ll ever see it, I am very thankful that Mr. McCallum listened to us (there are probably over a million Canadians similarly affected by C-24) and is going to change the law so our children will once again be the Canadian citizens they always were. But I wonder how long it will take to be rid of the stigma and distrust of dual citizens shown and encouraged by the last government. And most of all important to me is that I want my Dad and all the other veterans of wars prior to 1947 once again recognized as having been Canadians, not just British subjects, not worthy of Canadian citizenship.
We have a criminal justice system in Canada which can be used to deal with crimes, of which terrorism is one. There is no need to give one politician or bureaucrat the right to either grant or revoke citizenship, at his whim, based on his personal beliefs. I do believe that we deserve a more secure form of citizenship in Canada than the two tier system created in Bill C-24 and the previous system that allowed stripping of citizenship from groups like ours for ridiculous reasons.
