2011: Stephen Harper’s Tories win majority government with 39.62% of popular vote –
The reaction to this victory was a resounding refrain that 60% of Canadians don’t support Harper and what an unfair & undemocratic process the current Canadian voting system is:
2015: Justin Trudeau’s Liberals win majority government with 39.47% of popular vote – The reaction to this victory “mysteriously” was absent of the fact that 60% of Canadians didn’t vote for Trudeau and the Liberals:
- Justin Trudeau and Liberal Party Prevail With Stunning Rout in Canada
- Justin Trudeau’s emphasis on evidence-based policies paved the way to Liberal victory
- Canada to return to its honest broker role under Trudeau
It is quite astounding how the so-called principles and convictions of some people change depending on which team loses.
Now that the bogeyman of Stephen Harper is gone, Rex Murphy asks some important questions about who the Left in Canada will now focus their barbs of hate on. While Leftists across the nation insist that they don’t want “American style” politics in Canada, the rampant HDS evidence of the past 9 years strongly suggests that they LOVE, and even NEED, a figurehead to hate upon. Here’s what Murphy had to say:
Speaking of Mr. Harper — now that he is, effectively, no longer prime minister, who or what shall fill the void? He was the lightning rod of our every discontent. He was a monster bent on destroying our democracy, a fascist who worked on a secret agenda for a full nine years in office and of which even now, with his leaving office, we remain still in darkness, innocent of its terrors. For you see it was far more important to keep it secret than to execute it.
He was, variously Machiavelli, Mussolini, Mao and Hitler. Harper Canada’s image in the forums of the world, and purged all our “Canadian values” here at home. He was the Sauron of Mount Doom-on-the-Rideau waving his terrible arms from the towers of fear and hate. He was tepid on global warming and down on selfies. He liked hockey.
Well, who can fill that vital role? Who can be the magnet of our great discontent now that he is going and soon to be gone? Can we abide a country that is now all sunshine and butterflies, all summer holidays and hootenanys? I predict a Canada invective-deprived, all honey and harmony. Post-Harper, all is calm, all is bright. Can we live with that? Can Twitter survive? Will Raffi hang up the mandolin?

The Supreme Court may be liberal but it’s not Liberal. Harper appointed most of them — but not the Chief Justice. It was a different Conservative PM who did that. What a mess.
If we are “going Greek’……

“In the first such reform for years, the bill would require television stations to bid for 10-year licences via auctions.”
Should be PLANK #1 in the new Conservative Party.
Well, maybe after jettisoning the American”jail everybody and spy on everyone” plank.
Rex’s piece in the National Post on Saturday said it all.
Let a unicorn-flatulence-powered era of honey and harmony in Canada under the le Roi-Soleil commence!
Also in the Conservative victory the vast majority of seats that went CPC did so with more than 50% of the votes in the riding. I wonder if that’s the case with the Grits’ win this time?
Interesting observations from my favorite Canadian commentator.
I note Rex is on the money in exposing Liberal and their lapdog media’s open hypocrisy ( actually dark lies).
1) They hate and reject American style politicking – FALSE
JT had spinners and fixers from the Obama campaign – that means operatives of the criminal Chicago Dem machine were operating political strategies in Canada at Librano invitation. Fxxxking lying scum.
2) That JT is the opposite of Harper who was “a monster bent on destroying our democracy, a fascist who worked on a secret agenda for a full nine years in office ” -FALSE
JT is taking his policy marching order from foreign globalist 1%ers who orchestrated and financed his win against Harper so JT would do the bidding of the impetus of global government – It will start with opening the borders to cultural destruction and continue in Paris in December when he sells out Canadian sovereignty to a new global government which will tax Canadians and dictate domestic policy without the oversight of elected authority. He will act as an agent of a defacto 4th level of government not democratically accountable to Canadian people.
For installing this puppet of globalist tyranny alone the MSM should bear the wrath of the free Canadian people – close their temples of deceit and jail the peddlers of lies
Can we just accept the fact that in a system with more than two national parties that attract a significant share of the vote, that it is unlikely that a winning party will attract > 50% of the vote share?
Everyone has been watching too much US media. The Canadian parliamentary system rewards getting the most seats, full stop. Vote share is immaterial.
“B-b-b-b-but he didn’t get 50% of the vote” is the whine of the sore loser, and as we can see it’s not really the exclusive domain of the left or the right.
@ 9:03, you describe our governing system perfectly.
Great juxtaposition Robert.
Not clicking those links because I am assuming they are The Red Star or CBC or another so called journalist with HDS, and I refuse to give MSM a minute of my life.
Might read Rex when I grab a coffee.
I had a chuckle with the reference to ‘evidenced based policies paved way to Liberal victory’…lol…
There was more evidence of lies and propaganda by the MSM, and hairy fairy policies by the Libs.
But we have our Kardashian so the sheeple can focus on ‘evidenced based policies’ now….
Get ready folks, it’s going to be rough.
Oh yes, forgot – to answer Rex’e buring question of the day – “what will the leftists find to focus their intense hatreds upon in the vacuum left by Harper’s defeat?”
Well, look south – Liberals are copying the Chicago Dem criminal cartel’s play book page for page – who did Obamy and his media lap dogs focus public hatred on – well it was his political/ideological opposition – collectively branded the “tea party” by the spin machine this encompassed populist democrats, constitutionalist liber taians, patriot red state America and Christian, white conservatives. I even see this stigmatized branding (tea party) being used by the loathsome vilifiers of the Trudeaupian red gaurd sent out to troll the internet. It will become mainstream when the MSM picks up the formula demonization of opponent to JTs Globalist unCanadian agendas – JT isn’t black so they have to leave out the direct “racist” slurs but that still leaves indirect innuendo slurs like “haters, homophobes, white privilege and anti immigration xenophobes” to brand opponents with – watch It will happen as sure as climate changes.
The statist left and their LIV zombie army are essentially devoid of morality – so deal with them accordingly.
A few things…
As JT took a page out of the Obama playbook, they will also use the “blame the last guy” mantra, as every problem O has had to deal with was Bush’s fault. Also as mentioned before Harris takes the blame in ON and Filmon is still crucified on a regular basis in MB.
As far as a JT mandate, I’m sorry but this is Prime Minister Anybody, and should be referred to as such. The ABC crowd were not voting for someone, they were voting against PMSH. And until those thanksgiving polls came out boosting the the libs it was unknown which way they would swing. Had those polls been topped by orange, I believe we would have a NDP prime minister anybody.
Lastly, after listening to Gormley on friday, and hearing from him and many of his callers how they didn’t vote for JT but he is their PM and are willing to give him a chance, this is a perfect example of why the right will never thrive. Go back to 2011, or earlier to Harper’s first election win, was the CBC talk show hosts and callers saying “Harper is my PM, let’s give him a chance”? No they were spewing the Harper hate from day 1. The left never comprimises, they never accept the other view, they have an agenda and never waver from it. The right always tries to be acepting. They invite the wolf to sit down with them and then are surprised when all their chickens have been slaughrered.
While that’s an amusing an analogy (or perhaps allegory would be a better description), I don’t think Shiny Pony is the child that Isaiah was prophesying.
According to Revelations, before we achieve that condition, mankind will have to endure the reign of the Anti-Christ, the tribulation, the Millennium and Armageddon.
As an interesting side note, Muslims apparently have their own version of the end times, complete with Armageddon, shamelessly stolen (and wildly corrupted) from Christian and Jewish scripture. ISIS and the government of Iran have both expressed a fanatical devotion to initiation of these end times! That’s an interesting thought when you consider that Obumble’s treaty virtually GUARANTEES that Iran will have nuclear weapons in ten years, if they obey the agreement. Iran has already stated that they WON’T, in no uncertain terms.
With that thought foremost, I really hope I haven’t missed the Rapture, where the righteous folk get to skip all that silliness and go directly to Paradise! LOL!
Exactly! I am taking a page out of the leftist playbook. JT is not my prime minister.
The media and unions elected Justin of Trudeau. No one could beat the deluge of hate tossed at Stephen Harper, it was brutal and relentless and for no other reason than extreme hatred and lust for power.
Something to be noted, it cost the Liberals $40,000,000, dollars to get their front man running on a name elected. A lot of people wondered where they got all the money for their ad blitz in prime time in the latter days of the campaign as well. We know Chretien tossed $40,000,000 to the winds of Quebec which ultimately enabled Adscam. Did’someone’ find it and pass it over in brown paper bags?
One thing we know for sure, no Liberal will be carted off in leg chains and handcuffs, even if found guilty. that’s only done to Conservatives. Case in point, Dean DelMastro who overspent using his own money, breaking spending rules, they made him look like a dangerous criminal.
PMSH DID run as a small-c, center-right conservative.
He was not the “fscist”, misspelled on purpose,as it doesn’t deserve to be in the same comment as PMSH, being mentioned. The left built up a construct for the LIVs, of PMSH being this mythical evil, boogeyman, that pulls wings off flies while he plots new nefarious policies in the upper office of the bell tower, late at night!
That caricature, would have eliminated the CBC, slashed transfer payments, ended EI, doubled military spending, cut the civil service “devastatingly”, and other such measures. None of that happened, but would have deserved the moniker that the HDS crowd wanted to believe in.
We live in times where people believe in massive lies, and those telling them feel justified. A means to a desired end, no matter how many people’s lives are destroyed, all in the name of socialism and control.
In a rational world, the CBC would get rid of Rex Murphy for speaking truth to power. Instead, they treat his commentary as thoughts of a crazy person (he ‘looks’ crazy after all) and allow him to editorialize against the grain because the audience has largely been intellectually neutered of critical thinking and could not possibly take him seriously.’Human ballast’ was an expression Ayn Rand used to describe such a citizenry and that is as prophetic and accurate as her other works.
Being a progressive must be an easy job these days as there is no need of the truth, reality, history, critical thought, economy and ethics. Best of all, conflicting ideas no longer need addressing as real debate no longer occurs nor the fear of widespread free speech. The media and the progressive lock-step public education system has done their part and taken care of all of that nasty business for them.
If you want to call it ‘socialist lite’, then whatever. Its the lesser of the two evils, by a wide margin.
“For installing this puppet of globalist tyranny alone the MSM should bear the wrath of the free Canadian people – close their temples of deceit and jail the peddlers of lies”
Cancel ALL subscriptions, paper and web-based to these purveyors of propaganda. it’s really now just infotainment and propaganda for the simple minded of this country.
I note that Postmedia reported a >$200 million loss for their last fiscal year. That’s a start. Taking the media down, or at least making them FEEL the pain of job losses is what counts. Hit them where it hurts. There’s only so many propagandists that Mother Corpse can hire.
I thought Mulcair was very good in the debates, while Trudeau primarily memorized his lines. At one point in the Monk debates, Mulcair made a remark about this (Trudeau not understanding policy, just memorizing talking points). I was delighted when he said that as an aside and I thought it was patently obvious. Trudeau has never shown a capacity for in depth or sophisticated thinking. Actually I thought it was going to be the zinger (ala John Turner/Mulroney), but the commentators afterwards barely seemed to notice — except for criticizing Mulcair for insulting side remarks. So, I do think that in some ways Mulcair was also hampered by the media love affair with Justin. Mulcair at least had a solid platform to deliver — even if a wonky one.
Owl Eyes Oliver must of got stuck behind a combine lately. On QP today he referred to the rural Canada conservative base as nothing more than “bitter, old white people”…tell us how you really feel Craig…I’m sure those corporations/business that buy ad time from your network will appreciate being told to go pound salt by the bitter, old white people.
bluetech. “Not clicking those links because I am assuming they are The Red Star or CBC or another so called journalist with HDS, and I refuse to give MSM a minute of my life.”
My sentiments exactly. I refuse to have anything to do with their political garbage, unless as evidence of their utter incompetence as journalists. I haven’t seen one second of CTV or CBC “news” since the election, and plan to boycott them forever. I invite like thinking Canadians to do the same and refuse their requests for any input whatsoever. I have also consigned my Blue Rodeo discs to the rubbish bin for their playing of “Harperman.” I decided to give Neil Young a semi-pass because I already knew he was an idiot and still listened to his music.
Going forward, any artist or other commentator who takes a shot at Harper joins them in my obliviosphere. I refuse to be complicit in any way in the inevitable blame Mr Harper will receive for our upcoming unlimited and thus poor government. He left us with a fiscal surplus and a great performance within the disaster that is the present global economy, so over to the statists with a clean slate and accountability on them. No the mediocracy won’t do it, but I will and many others I suspect.
People are going to hear a lot of “well you voted for those idiots, so shut the f**k up” from me going forward, especially younger Canadians who will ultimately shoulder the financial burden of Trudeau’s statist policies and political recklessness. He hasn’t even been sworn in as PM and he’s already insulted the POTUS; this is our first of many examples of his upcoming poor judgment, within a month, selling our sovereignty down the Seine at Paris.
This Liberal is extra dangerous, because he plans to keep his ludicrous promises. A western giant sleeps fitfully right now in our country, but its hibernation will soon end, mark my words. The sheep will turn into a bear soon if what I believe of Trudeau happens. There is worse to come in my view, our economy is heading for a productivity tailspin and the jury is out whether this will cause a deflationary or inflationary bubble.
Either way it will be bad and increased borrowing and the size of government is our greatest economic threat going forward. Anybody who thinks Mr Harper was exaggerating will soon see how prescient his words were. Robbing western Paul to invest in eastern Peter will split this country unprecedentedly. That is our future, with the IPCC kleptocracy as cover. Dark political clouds overhang.
Seems that Howliver fits that description well, he really is a “bitter pus-filled old, white, man”.
Liberals have a great way of projecting onto others, what THEY really are.
Cognitive dissonance anybody?
Troll
That has been the constant bleating and whining from the simping left for an eternity.
We are now pointing out their rank hypocrisy, how now, its allowable and satisfactory.
Rank hypocrisy is the domain of the left, its a feature, not a bug!
How appropriate, the CAPTCHA on this post is LIBERTE!
He’s not MY PM either. If anything, he’s the First Nations and Maritimes Welfare Minster, and the Minister of Shiny Objects for Quebec and Morontariowe.
But let’s not forget the CPC did not help themselves either. The clampdown on MP speaking and engaging hurt deeply and out here the Kit’s base issue and the handling of it likely cost them 2 MP’s in North Van and West Van. I sent letters to my MP, despite donating and volunteering, I never got a response until I shoved my letter into a donation envelope and then they sent a canned response to my detailed questions. I have heard from others that my MP was more or less absent in this term and far to married to the party. At the end of the day it’s the voters in your riding that get you elected, not the party.
They need to get a new leader out there, eat some public humble pie, promise to rebuild and to listen better and then go from there. That will make their base and undeclared voters more likely to forgive their mistakes. Also promise not to do large Ommibills again, that is just shitty governing.
What are these CBC and CTV things that people refer and alluded to? Is this TV? Are they hosts of programs in acronym?
/sarc. TV is for the sheeple. Don’t be sheeple.
Next time conservatives get into power, we’re going to have to do the things that the elites always feared Harper would do, but never quite did.
The irony is that they hated him as if he had already done them.
Some conservatives weren’t happy with him for a different set of reasons, in part, that he was too ambiguous at times, and in part because of problems with the party’s mania for controlling speech that threatened to extend into the realm of individual freedoms.
If anyone seriously thinks the right can govern in some sunny, breezy all-is-good style as Justin Trudeau thinks he can do (he won’t of course), this should be quickly abandoned. We live in a time where a vast assault on liberty is already well underway, and most of it comes from within our own society (another part threatens from the Islamic world and perhaps from what’s left of communism).
Hopefully, Trump and/or Cruz can lead the way and demonstrate what is actually needed to push back against this mindless globalism of self-defining virtues that are mostly madness.
Then it should be relatively easy for a Canadian version (perhaps Jason Kenney) to follow that same path here. If people see improvements south of the border in 2017-18, they may be more likely to return the CPC to power.
A big dose of humility would also help. It will not work beyond a very small encampment of loyalists to keep beating the drum of “we were perfect, what’s wrong with the voters anyway?” … even if that’s right, it won’t work.
re the percentages of votes cast. The early votes are not counted unless the difference in election day votes is smaller or equal to the total number of the early ballots. As CPC volunteers my wife and I voted early. I suspect that early voters were committed votes and would change the percentages noticeably.
I know that a lot of foreign money and globalist money was spent on this election. Who for? How do I get EC to take a look?
Say what?
Are you saying the early voting is not counted?
You sure and have you a citation for that.
Not calling you a liar, but this would drive my suspicion of EC right off the edge.
Not to mention that encouraging early voting would then constitute fraud.
you all are asking where did shiny pony ge tty money.???
MAURICE STRONG..and his gang of UN globalist elite….thats who.
pointe finale…
I predict a new desire for the sane (Western) provinces to secede from Canada. The only reason the brainless spawn of Turdeau is in power is that the eastern plutocrats view him as the easiest puppet to manipulate and the most likely to attract equally moronic female voters. This latter group of voters, lacking a real man in their life, view the state as their support and will be looking for lots of free stuff.
I’m sure that Turdeau will be suddenly backpedalling on the idea of proportional representation as the Lieberal majority would be considerably less if this system of voting was in place. I, for one, will consider anything coming out of Turdeau’s government to be invalid as he was elected by a minority of the Canadian population and hence he has no authority to govern.
My advice to Canadian gun owners is start burying a lot of your guns and also stock up on ammo (if you haven’t already done so) as the dark days of having a hoplophobe as PM are on us again.
My husband did the training to be a DRO and there was nothing in the rules about not counting the advance poll votes in any circumstance.
