    1. This has become a problem in nearly every state. Most of the historic preservation and museums have been taken over by ideological toadies who only collect a paycheck and do nothing to preserve and promote.

      They are destroying our parks, our museums, and our historical sites through neglect and active tampering.

    1. You say this like it is a good thing.
      I would say that it is very bad; those history departments needed to become better (because history is an important part of one’s education), not done away with.

      Unless of course, one is a communist, and loves the idea of a people losing all sense of their past, their culture prior to the great ‘people’s utopia’, the very ability to read beyond state endorsed acronyms…

        But having said that:

        o The market for education does work. Providing an inferior product has ramifications.
        o Perhaps the sight of disappearing departments will motivate historians to become more scholarly and less political.

          Interesting point to bring up. That would only work in institutions that aren’t ideologically captured. Never attribute to incompetence what can be described by malice. They don’t care that those departments are destroyed; that was the goal.

            Could you please re-read this line for clarity?

        3. There is no market in post-secondary education in most Western countries. The ready availability of easy credit for tuition, foreign student programs, tenured positions, administrative employee unions, athletic scholarships and donations, large interest-generating endowments, etc., etc. distort the market to the point it ceases to exist for all save the smallest private colleges.

          So history faculty in the US declined by 16%. So what? How does that compare to every other department? Did they decline by the same amount, or greater? Did some departments increase? Were history departments overstaffed in prior decades, and this merely represents a reversion to the mean? And perhaps most importantly, don’t you think the American Historical Association might have a wee bit of a vested interest in how you interpret that little factoid?

          That lone little factoid is right out of the How To Lie With Statistics textbook. Something you might want to brush up on.

          1. Sure there’s a market. Students have considerable choice of where to spend their tuition dollars, and that produces a market. The fact that they can get easy credit for tuition makes no difference. They still have to pay to back.

    Smithsonian Director Hartig: “Yes, sir”

    Gill: “The Smithsonian lists politeness as an attribute of white supremacy”
