It began with a retraction due to a “misstatement” in November 2012, which led to an investigation that found the first author, James E. Hunton, guilty of misconduct. Now, the floodgates have opened, and Hunton has 31 retractions under his belt, making him the newest addition to the Retraction Watch leaderboard.
I have seen PhDs publish some real crap but someone talented enough to write dozens of papers could have easily taken the time to do the research. Now, instead of a prospective teaching job at Harvard, community colleges won’t take his calls. Nice life he earned himself, all in the name of laziness.
Creative accounting, anyone?
In my experience the only thing which counts with most – nearly all – modern scientists is the size of their research grant.
Utterly corruptive.
And it must be govamint funds – I was chatting with a rather well-to-do friend outside my office one day, with two other colleagues, and remarked to him that if he threw down a million dollars in front of them (which he could do) they wouldn’t pick it up. The two just gawked at me, without disagreeing.
It’s not about truth any more, it is all about the govamint grant.
