Y2Kyoto: I’ll Miss The Antarctic Penguins

Somebody’s napping at the Washington Post. These reports don’t generally survive the filter;

Antarctic sea ice has grown to a record large extent for a second straight year, baffling scientists seeking to understand why this ice is expanding rather than shrinking in a warming world.

Related? …the UK MET office has published a study which suggests solar activity is currently plummeting, the fastest rate of decline in 9300 years. The study also raises the odds of Maunder Minimum style conditions by 2050 from 8% to 15 – 20%.

  1. As for this being a “2-year old” story, take a look at the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data web site itself. You can see graphs up to mid-2015.
Regardless, the warmists are determined to make us submit and pay that jizya, uh, carbon tax.

  2. “”odds of Maunder Minimum style conditions by 2050 from 8% to 15 – 20%.””
The term “odds” is an “argument” measure of probability based on several orders of probability….The ancient Witch doctors had better results…
Rear Science is not a 51% “more likely than not” argument….That is mere Argument Vs. scientific measurement…
Publishing odds should be limited to comic books.

  3. Looks like the Libby/Pandolfi theory that they published in 1979 might be bang on the money. If the next five years mirrors the last five climate-wise then there aren’t enough tires for humans to impact another Maunder Minimum. On the brighter side a mini-ice-age would solve the population problem being espoused by the model loving scientists by killing off one to two billion people by starvation. That would also knock hell out of the real-estate market, which may not be a bad thing either.

  4. Why this history lesson. It’s two years old as others have mentioned. What’s up with that?

  5. Come on now. Global BC is breathlessly reporting 40 degree temperatures and calling for the end of life as we know it. It hardly ever gets hot in the Okanagan in June/July so it must be true.

  6. Until a few years ago I just accepted global warming as a fact. Then came Climategate. My problem with Climategate is that I made the wild assumption that people never conspire to tell the truth. They got caught in a conspiracy and conspiracies such as these would only ever be to disseminate a lie.
The next thing I did was select a rural weather station near where I live, with no heat islands. It’s in a farmer’s yard and has been for over 100 years. Not wanting to deal with attempting averages because my math sucks. I looked at record highs and record lows and the 1910s, 1930s, and 1990s were really close in the number of highs. I could not discern a trend other than cyclical.

  7. Greenpeace dont make me release the rabid skuas attack when they seen your garbage scows Rainbow Warrior II and Arctic Sunrise

  8. Funny how they find natural variations to explain cooling to offset the anthropogenic warming, but never once think that perhaps the warming itself is a natural variation.

  9. “Hell! I will trade Gay Marriage for the end of the EPA agenda anytime!”
Two steps forward, one step back. The Leftist agenda never sleeps.
Don’t think just because they had a little step back that they’ll quit any initiative they have ever thought of or tried.
You’d trade a foundational pillar on which society is built for the temporary setback of a faddish initiative?
The nuclear family headed by one man and one woman is the bedrock on which civilization is founded.

  10. “Don’t think just because they had a little step back that they’ll quit any initiative they have ever thought of or tried.” OZ
It is my hope that Republicans in the Congress will find some back-bone and follow up by Stomping the EPA. The America of the past would have solved ALL open issues. I know they are useless fools who have slobbered away Benghazi & the IRS investigations.
The SCOTUS ruled that “States can’t prohibit same sex marriage” That is a long way from a bedrock institution that they MUST promote. There is more than one way to skin a skunk.
Texas is offering legal service to all those that may be sued, that means every case will have to go all the way…How many PLL have sufficient funds to take a suit to SCOTUS that they may lose. The Justice system is a tough road.

  11. “Two steps forward, one step back. The Leftist agenda never sleeps.”
Exactly, and Khrushchev, Stalin’s henchman in the liquidation of millions of Ukrainians, told us from the UN podium that this was their tactics.

  12. “The SCOTUS ruled that “States can’t prohibit same sex marriage” That is a long way from a bedrock institution that they MUST promote.”
Irrelevant. Here is what you said, in case you, everyone else, and God can’t see above for themselves:
“I will trade Gay Marriage for the end of the EPA agenda anytime!”
    ~Philip G Shaw
    You will, will you, Phil?
    1) The SCOTUS, which is part of the federal government, has no constitutional authority over the institution of marriage which pre-existed the SCOTUS and the federal government of the United States.
    2) The States don’t have to prohibit SSM, they can however refuse to recognize it as having any legal or social foundation because marriage doesn’t fall under U.S. government jurisdiction and the SCOTUS can’t force the States to recognize it because of the 10th Amendment.(in Canada we have something called the ‘Notwithstanding Clause’ which allows provinces to opt out of rulings by the federal government which fall outside of Federal jurisdiction, but Leftist politicians never/rarely use it)
    3) Culture comes from the grass roots of society, and SSM will die from lack of cultural support(especially government support, Government Has NO BUSINESS Promoting Culture) because less than 1% of the population are homos.
Now that that is out of the way, let’s look at your willingness to trade a rock-bed pillar of civilization for a transient political issue.
Have you ever heard the phrase: “Selling your birthright for a mess of pottage?”
That’s what you are promoting Philip Shaw.
That’s what you proposed above. It is an abhorrent and foolish trade, a pillar for a passing fad. If you aren’t a Leftist, you’re a sellout.
I won’t give a inch to any Leftist cause, and I know that Leftists plan to destroy civilization for an unobtainable half-baked idea of Utopia.
Leftists aren’t just people with a differing opinion, they’re the enemy.
It’s that simple and it’s not flippant or funny.
