My first house in 1983 was on Stephenson Avenue, one block south of the Danforth and one block west of Main Street. I was so very pleased and proud as punch to own it. The neighborhood was great.
In the intervening years, I moved back west and lived in Calgary and Regina for 24 years. Friends asked me if I was moving back to Toronto when I decided to move closer to my family and friends. I replied that I would NEVER move to “Chowtown” as Toronto has truly gone down the sewer in the last 24 years. And as always, if you are rich, you can live in the nicer parts of town, but if you are middle-class, you are stuck with scenes such as these.
If I have to pick I’ll take Comrade Chow’s Danforth Village over Michigan’s Dearborn Caliphate.

That Toronto thing made me laugh. Come to Vancouver, where we have BLOCKS and BLOCKS of makeshift tents on both sides of the street, open drinking and drug use, and people sleeping and defecating on the sidewalks. It even spills down the alleys, there are so many of them.
