For many decades there has been no greater debate between the Left and the Right than the issue of Social Welfare. Fundamentally, how much support should taxpayers, via their government, give to people who are currently not earning enough to support themselves?
Boston talkshow host Michael Graham recently debated the issue with Irish broadcaster George Hook. Well worth a listen.

One thing I think you’re all missing is this: A great number of people in the world today think like George Hook does. Do you believe they’re all mentally ill? I think the key to changing their minds is to show them the error of their thinking. Is this an impossible task?!

The problem with this idea is that people who believe George Hook ARE NOT THINKING. They’re feeeeeeling. They may in fact not even be able to think, at this point. Rational thought is mental EXERCISE, it takes effort and you have to know how to do it. Its like changing a carburetor. After you’ve done it a few times it is no big deal, but if you’ve never done it before? Monumental task.
See, the root of the issue is that George Hook is -lying-. He is lying with deliberation, malice, and intent. It is a comforting lie. People believe him because it makes them feel better.
There is one thing and one thing only which will show the George Hook followers the error of their ways: welfare checks bouncing. The gigantic rioting which will follow immediately, mere hours after those checks bounce, will be the punch in the face that wakes up the average Liberal/Social Democrat voter in the average large Western city that George Hook is a damnable liar and that Liberals have been living in a fools paradise since WWII.
Which by the way is what’s happening in Ukraine right now. The reason its hard to pick a side there is that both sides need to be taken out and shot behind the barn.
Freedom builds societies. Socialism kills them. Proven by history, proven by every city run by socialists in the Western World right now.
