NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair lashed out at evangelical Christian groups Monday, accusing them of going “completely against” Canadian values and law with their beliefs about homosexuality.
Mulcair’s anger spilled over when reporters asked about Crossroads Relief and Development – a group that’s received $389,000 from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to build wells and provide clean water to 11,000 people Uganda.

The reality is quite different. They are the most bitter and selfish segment of society. It would be interesting to run a poll amongst the ‘lefties’ and find out how many see themselves as leaders in their ideal society and how many see themselves as workers.
Thomas Mulcair is thoroughly no threat to Harper. I was a little concerned when all the hype was going about when he won the leadership, but it’s not a problem. He’s just going to act as a massive spoiler for Justin Trudeau.
We could see a beautiful vote split, especially in Quebec and witness a 200 seat Tory majority next time round.

Mulcair’s comments highlight one of the (many) reasons why lefties do not approve of the teaching of factual history. Like most of the people on the left, Tom is self-deceived. He’s a hypocrite but he has no idea that he is. What leftists hate the most is anyone other than the state helping the disadvantaged. Christian groups are the first ones on the ground in the face of any disaster. They also have the most organized, least bureaucratic and practical help for long-term problems. My tiny denomination spends a million dollars a year on poverty and famine relief and at least the same on domestic assistance to the poor. It’s amazing how much good a million dollars can do if it’s not in the hands of some state agency. It’s also abundantly clear that despite his pretenses, Mulcair does not really embrace diversity. Practicing Christians form over 1/3 of the population of this country. Mulcair has no respect for them. Despite his great love for diversity, he does not embrace them. In fact, he’s not even able to conceal his hatred for them. In short,like nearly everyone on the left, the man is a total fraud. As for me,I will continue to speak about homosexual behavior as a sin. Actually, African culture is historically very anti-homosexual. If anything, Christian influences have strongly moderated traditional tribal response to gay behaviour.

I have no problem with a small part of my tax-dollars going for worthwhile projects such as humanitarian relief of the emergency kind; partcipation in construction projects of the self-help variety; education that increases self-reliance.
But all of us know that an inordinate chunk of our foreign aid dollars are consumed by the bureaucracies in the donor and recipient nations. The same thing happens with our welfare dollars here at home.
And I don’t know why a vision of Theresa Spence dining and dancing with Robert Mugabe just flashed across my mind.
LAS I missed the part where Christian groups are advocating criminal charges and punishment against homosexuals. There’s a difference between calling something a sin (yes, evoking God’s punishment) and advocating criminal sanctions against it. Perhaps it is the enlightened progressives who are foisting their beliefs upon the African people, not the other way around.

One can make any argument regarding government money or giving aid to Africa and so forth. The fact remains that as of now, this Christian group is attempting to do some good. It’s not a professional grievance group. It’s proactive. Where are Muclair and the other professional handwringers when homosexuals are being hanged in Iran?

I can’t for the life of me understand why they do that — it’s got to be political coprolalia (involuntary utterance of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks). It’s always an unforced error and always costs them votes. At the core of it is, I reckon, a fundamental misunderstanding of the definition of “tolerance”: I tolerate lots of things, but that doesn’t mean I accept them; the more you push me to accept things I won’t, the less tolerant I’m inclined to be. They’ve certainly got a blind spot on this one.
As for funding of NGOs operating in the field of development assistance, it would not surprise me in the least if the degree of non-governmental funding (private fundraising) varies with the ideological orientation of the groups considered, and lies along the right-left spectrum — just as the Conservative Party is largely self-financing (and I know all about the political contribution tax credit, etc. — which is equally available to all parties), Canadian political parties of the left are basically dependent on government financing. And it further would not surprise me to learn, a propos of Jamie’s last point, that more conservative DANGOs have a higher proportion of available funding actually making its way into projects than do more leftist outfits. I don’t have any data on this, but it seems to be the way that these things work, doesn’t it?
