We Don’t Need No Stinking Sparky Cars

Ric Morano;

‘One of Fisker primary financial backers is venture captital firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, of which Gore is a partner. Fisker received a $528.7 million conditional loan from Dept. of Energy’s…That’s a LOT of money to produce only 200-300 thus far, some of which seem to be lemons. This is the same company that caught flak because after it secured US govt financing, started assembling their cars in – Finland. Fisker Automotive seems headed for the same fate as Solyndra’

  1. If you are a trained engineer like myself, and you do your energy calculations on these electric cars, it is hard to believe how they can ever be practical. It is not necessary to purchase one of these vehicles to reach that conclusion.
    For one, battery energy density just isn’t there, and there’s nothing yet on the horizon that suggests it will be there anytime soon. Second, if everyone were to start driving electric vehicles, electricity demand would go through the roof right at the time when governments are obsessed with forcing electricity providers to go “green”. Hell BC Hydro for example is constantly complaining that their current infrastructure cannot even keep up with *existing* electricity demand and they have been raising rates far faster than inflation.
    The only way today’s electric vehicles can ever be viable is through massive subsidies. Subsidies are just a way to cover up the fact that these vehicles are not practical or competitive with gasoline powered cars.
    But “greens” live in an illusionary world where facts taken second place to ideology.

  2. Gore must laugh himself to sleep every night of the week…”Fools, they just keep giving me money, hahahaha”

  3. The Enron mentality lives on, but now it has Obama government backing. No wonder they want to take away people’s guns.

  4. Well, good thing it “looks like it’s going fast while standing still”
    It does that.

  5. @ Platty
    That’s probably how it started out alright.
    Now he probably writhes and twists sleeplessly all night as he plots and schemes to get the rest of everyone’s money.
    Thief is too good a word

  6. Fisker … they seem to make decent scissors, how much more complicated could a car be?

  7. They named the car “Karma”, and they’re surprised that the universe is having a bit of fun with it?

  8. Hey Mark, I think that’s Fiskar you’re thinking about and yes, they make a fine product.

  9. Notice how the driver of the flatbed that picked it up, wore a hoodie and sunglasses. I would too.

  10. The global news in Vancouver ran a story on the Fisker the other night praising its performance and “green” cred. I’m thinking we won’t be seeing an update tonight…They drank the kool-aid a long time ago…

  11. Well the Karma and the Chev reVolt have succeeded in one area. They can’t pollute when they sit still.

  12. Someone should take out all the running gear, hitch one up to a work horse and call it an Obamanationmobile in memory of a similar economy and innovation just like the Bennett Buggies of the great Depression.

  13. Justwondering;
    How much gas does that flatbed burn when it’s driving the Karma owner to work?

  14. That’ll teach ’em to not name products after that poor little frog. I mean, hasn’t he got ENOUGH trouble just dealing with Miss Piggy and the rest of those clowns?

  15. Mark Matis
    Karma just ran over your dogma…..
    I may be a curmugeon but I know it’s Kermit…”It’s not easy being green”.
    Garbage can lid….”bang”.

  16. I’m going to take my chances and perhaps bid on one at a Barrett-Jackson auction somewhere down the road.

  17. Why would ConRept pay $100,000 for a car? No leasing available? Good thing they have this much cash on hand.

  18. Pretty sure the naysayers weren’t the first users of the PC’s, Mobile phones, and clearly don’t feel any responsibility to advance sustainable technologies. I am hoping this and other companies pursuing advancements the mainstream will benefit from do succeed for all our and the planets benifit. I own one, have 2,200 miles on it and have had my issues. Nothing that 15 years at MSFT I didn’t experience. We had naysayers then and now. How about Apple, the wall street darling that was essentially out of business before MSFT invested $200M and they brought Jobs back. Get real. All great advancements are met with overwhelming resistance from mediocrity. History is full of your ilk.
    Stay tuned this story is far from over.

  19. Rick, that is your view, but my comment at the top says what this is. Most of the everyday commenters on this blog are representative of society as far as education is concerned. This project was political in nature and not economic like the example you give.

  20. I hear they gave one to Justin Beiber and that Titanic metro sexual actor-guy.
    Gave.
    Rick, how’s the smug emissions on that baby?

  21. It’s a common complaint among laptop, camera and cell phone users – the batteries last to long.

    Thanks for clearing that up Ralph. I really did think the scissor company had suddenly switched gears and started building cars. Sure, they’d have to re-program one or two machines or something…
