  1. What would we do without “experts”?

Well, in the absence of the annointed Wuhan flu experts, we’d live longer.

  2. Gilbert &Sullivan had these kind of “expert” nailed.
“I am the very model of the modern major general”..
Without experts such as these “central scrutinizers” we would be short on vicious entertainment.
    Educated but ignorant..
Or was that “educated by idiot?”
This is part of human nature and as such must be seen as a gift from the gods..
Except when we allow such fools any authority over another.. We all know at least one, those childless scolds who hold forth such brilliant ideas on how to raise your children.

  3. Experts reminded me of Wall Street Journal columnist Dorothy Rabinowitz’s many columns on the day-care abuse hysteria of the 1980s and 1990s. Rabinowitz focused on “expert witness” testimony. “Rabinowitz exposed how some expert witnesses lacked credibility and were often biased, contributing to the prosecution’s case without solid evidence.”
Her columns helped overturn flawed court cases in multiple states. I recall one specific expert witness exposed as a fraud. This witness claimed experise in early childhood development when his real expertise was actually plumbing.

  4. Very much back in the day, read a comment from a Nobel laureate (definitely not a Peace Prize recipient) to the effect that – when looking at “expert” – “ex” meant “former” and “spert” was a squirt under pressure. Have never forgotten that.
