It’s been over 250 years since their monarchy has had to behead someone.

And even then it wasn’t a particularly popular beheadding.
There was going to be a Muslim demonstration. The police had a conversation. Protest cancelled.
Do Not Mess With the Queen.
Head hackers aside, Pippa is HOT!
But, Speedy;
The British allow their muslim kooks to “demonstrate” against anything and everything. Heck, britain allows its muslim kooks more leeway than their own native Christian population. They allow poppies to be burned, but not korans. They allow muslim hatred to be preached on streets and police to be overrun; refusal to allow such would be a violation of muslims’ human rights.
I just find it perverse that British muslims are allowed to publically deride the British military, Christianity, institutions, etc but suddenly not the Queen?
“Do not mess with the Queen” seems paradoxical when savage muslims are free to “mess with” every other aspect of British institutions.
Did anyone else who observed the crowd notice that it was primarily white?
Simon I agree the rest of the time they may well not be there. In this case I think the message was sent that they would be on their own out there because the police were going to be occupied.
Yeah well, nobody does a parade etc quite like the Brits….
It’s sorta like the beret, the head-dress of the British troops, is the head-dress of every elite military world-wide…..ruskies, yanks, muzzies etc….the mark of the professional.
The Police were being pragmatic….if muzzies had protested…..those crowds assembled for this wedding would have given the muzzies definitive lessons on savagery…. the patriotic blood was up. Not that they are generally violent…just heavily invested emotion-wise.
Culture Matters … no matter how much our friends on the Left scream at us that all cultures are equal.
“Culture Matters … no matter how much our friends on the Left scream at us that all cultures are equal.” Agreed!
Half a million or more spectators came out to watch, everyone civilized, peaceful, respectful. You won’t see that in the third world or at a leftist rally.
No matter what your view on the royals, the wedding was an exhibition of the civilized West, and our spectacular history and our culture.
Too bad we seem so determined sometimes to throw it all away.
Except in 20 years, England WILL be Arab.
“With two billion people watching around the world,”
I wonder how they extrapolated THAT number. The Yanks used to say the same about the Super Bowl until a few skeptics pointed out that most of the people on the planet couldn’t care less about an American sporting contest.
I just finished work, and if I turn on the TV and stories of that wedding are still on, shall cancel my cable after May 2.
Good luck to the Royal couple, all the best.
I just don’t think it’s any more neswworthy than the latest Lindsay Lohan parable.
“It’s been over 250 years since their monarchy has had to behead someone”
But what about Princess Diana?
/conspiracy theorist
…if I turn on the TV and stories of that wedding are still on, shall cancel my cable after May 2.
How many channels do you get?
It is not just about the monarchy. Britain and everyone else has been ridden down some. It’s a fairy tale that is real instead of the Disney version. Every little girl is a Princess. Your friends have weddings, The Royals have spectacles of pagentry. It’s a morale booster and a seed of hope. Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn’t be surprised at the two billion. There were English breakfasts in a lot of the hotels the Royals use in Canada. They were at 3 AM and people went to eat and watch the wedding.
“There was going to be a Muslim demonstration”
There were men on every roof along the route with rifles. Just in case.
For Diana’s wedding they had extra security too, and they even sealed the manhole covers along the route the coach took in case of bombs. Only difference was, it was the IRA back then.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I wish they had demonstrated, it would have been… interesting.
Anyhow when Lizzie dies, its time to end the monarchy here.
James Middleton did a superb job reading the only Bible passage at the Royal Wedding (Romans 12: 1-2, 9-18), obviously well-thought out by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Amongst many moving exhortations, this one popped out:
… Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse them.
I couldn’t help thinking about the many extremist Islamists who now inhabit “England’s green and pleasant land” of William Blakes’ Jerusalem (which was beautifully done during the wedding ceremony). This is the difference between Islam and Christianity: Christians are exhorted to bless those who persecute them, while Islamists are convinced that they’re exhorted to blow up those who don’t worship Mohammed.
The rest of this reading is instructive as to what Christians are called to. I was deeply moved that Prince William and Princess William of Wales chose this reading amongst so many others they could have chosen. My sense is that they truly desire to serve.
langman, with due respect, I disagree.
Whats with him? There are many an eight year old ready for marriage if I’m not mistaken./
Langmann – With due disrespect, I disagree! dmorris – Who is this Lindsay Lohan?
langman, I respectfully disagree.
In my experience most of the people who say “end the monarchy” haven’t given much thought to their statement. Just as many of those that say the opposite.
It may just be coincidence, but it appears that women seem to be much more interested in the monarchy and such spectacles as royal weddings than men. My father thought royalty were useless parasites that should be lined up against a wall and shot whereas my mother was a royalist and thought it was wonderful that Canada had a monarchy. For some reason my wife seems favorably disposed towards the monarchy whereas I think Canada should be a republic. Perhaps it’s every woman’s secret fantasy to someday find a prince to get her out of her current existence whereas men are more practical and dream of inventing something unique which will make them millionaires.
langman I also disagree.
The monarchy is part of our history and heritage all the way back to Gov. Samuel Champlain and His Most Catholic Majesty King Francis to Queen Lizzies today. All I know is 3000 people went to watch her go to church when she was here last summer. Except for elections you can’t get 30 people to see the PM walk into a building. So why throw all of that away??? This comes from a canadian without a drop of english blood…
langman,I respectfully agree. And Lindsay Lohan? Not sure who she is but the TV News was obsessed with her, just like they are now about this English wedding.
I get 58 channels, only 23 of them had the Royal Wedding story. I exaggerated.
Of the other 32, LiLo is on 21,Paris Hilton on 10, and something about a war in Liberia or Libya or something on the last one.
God forgive me, I just don’t care about the lives of the rich and famous, maybe I should be declared insane.
Well said Loki. I am always amazed at people who love the idea of a monarchy, which is essentially in violation of the fundamental idea of equality and the Charter Part I section 15.
Anyhow to those who love to go on about how it represents Canada’s history, well the United States also had a history involving a King, and getting rid of him didn’t harm them any…
And to those who think I haven’t thought about the difficulties of it, well when lizzie dies and if Australia goes ahead and gets rid of them, we’ll have a little experiment for us all.
// It’s been over 250 years since their monarchy has had to behead someone. //
The guy who came after him had his head removed posthumously, and it was stuck on a pike above Westminister Hall for several decades.
It fell during a storm & bounced around for about 300 years until it was buried in 1960
Now that’s civilized.
As an Englishman I find the reoccurring question of whether commonwealth countries should keep the monarchy of little interest. If you want a republic then by all means you should become one. I’m not sure what your fiscal responsibility is to our monarchy but I’m sure that an elected servant to replace the monarch would cost significantly more and achieve nothing.
I always smile when I see our American cousins spending hard earned cash on items related to our institution. They worked so hard to depose our monarch and a significant proportion of their population follows them avidly.
As mentioned earlier the arguments for and against the monarchy are usually poorly expressed. I honestly think why get rid of an institution that costs the UK less than it makes from them when there is no viable alternative especially when it encapsulates everything that is great in my nation and gives great spectacles like yesterday.
if royalty hinges on bloodline, and kate middleton is a commoner, does that mean in future fully half of british royalty are imposters?
how does that work nayway? where are the rules written about monarch descendancy?
playing fast and loose with the heartstrings again there y’all brits…..
anyway I do wish the newlyweds a happy personal life, William certainly does seems a decent sort. I envy the fact he can fly a chopper, that too seems to be part of the current brit royal family.
Historically the British royal family have been able to marry commoners so to speak.
The tradition of marrying other royals came across with the German branch of the family however that was finally put to bed with George VI marrying a commoner.
So maybe your right if you are Germanic we no longer have Royals
I however believe in the British more liberal viewpoint rather than the goose stepping far right of yesteryear.
There are generally no hard and fast rules on monarchy only tradition set in place by documented precedence.
The only law/rule regarding the monarch is they may not marry a catholic and first born males inherit first.
Harsh I agree, but if the law is going to be kept for the sake of tradition maybe it should be extended to include other religions.
Just a thought.

During the debates leading to confederation of British North America, an American-style republic form of government for Canada was considerered by all of the provincial legislatures. Our founders were well informed by nine decades of USA history as a republic, and particularly informed by the recent Civil War which, in part, they attributed to design-flaws in the US constitution.
And even then it wasn’t a particularly popular beheadding.
