  1. King George III was 100% German like his Father, Grandfather, Mother and Grandmother on both sides. George I and George II went back to Germany to find appropriate wives so when the Revolution started he hired 40,000 German Mercenaries – “Hessians” as they were from The State of Hesse.

Well, at the turning point of the war at The Battle of Saratoga the Hessians had been here for a time and when they had guard duty by themselves they ran to American lines and surrended in droves. Eventually Gentleman Johnny Burgoyne, the British Commander, had to station Bristish guards to guard the Hessain gurads so they wouldn’t flee.

By the end of the war of the 40,000 he had paid for 15,000 saw America and said we are not going back to Germany. They had tasted being a free man and liked it. Some of those Hessians are my ancestors.

As the Americans made the Bristish Army surrender at Saratoga that when the new reached Franklin in Paris that was all he needed to ge the French King to join our cause. In the video that is why Washington knew at Saratoga that the tide had turned in our favor.
