“Three words, though, are not usually associated with Layton: ‘ready to govern’.“

God help us.
He’s ready to tax and spend.
And will follow the Booby Rae example of destroying a national economy.
And yet…………I’m glad Harper is not going to get a majority. He hasn’t earned it, IMHO, from a small ‘c’ conservative perspective.
Hopefully the ‘Conservative’ party will get a plurality of seats.
But, anything can happen with another minority government.
Further to that, Observer, he’s ready to tax and spend. And spend. And spend. And spend.
The sad truth is that the ‘Conservatives’ are as bought-and-paid-for as the ‘Liberals’, and there’s nothing Conservative about them. What Canada really needs is a stronger Libertarian showing, and I doubt it’s going to happen.
This is an election between socialists, bigger socialists, marxists, and greener marxists.
“none of the above.”
Observer, you claim a small c conservative perspective and that you fear Layton’s tax & spending… he’ll destroy the economy.
Then, you indicate you want another conservative minority.
Conservative minorities have to govern more to the left than their base b/c the majority in parliament are lefties.
IMHO, I observe holes in your logic.
Can you people who are down on the party please keep it to yourself until after the election. We have to defeat Mr Orange Crush “surge” OMG I can’t believe he’s #winning #bling #bling #votemob first ok.
There’s something really fishy about all these recent polls of the NDP’s surging. Methinks, quite frankly, it’s wishful thinking on the part of some pollsters and the leftard media shills. Now that it’s clear that Iggy’s crashed and burned (the Liberal$ are fried), they’re now shilling for the NDP.
What a joke. A bloody bad joke. Jack’s no more ready to govern Canada than a fox, the hen yard.
Observer: “And yet…………I’m glad Harper is not going to get a majority. He hasn’t earned it, IMHO, from a small ‘c’ conservative perspective.”
Either I’m clairvoyant or completely wrong, but it’s clear to me (through a glass darkly) that Prime Minister Harper has never been able to govern from strength. He’s always had the leftard Disloyal Opposition and the Unelected Opposition (aka the leftard media) yapping, like damned irritating chihuahuas, at his and his party’s heels.
I suspect, if given his head (a majority), things might actually turn in a classical conservative direction. He has to stay in power in order for even the possibility of a majority — with four leftist parties against him and the CPC, the Bloc being one of them — which has meant some rather severe compromises.
What don’t c/Conservatives understand about this?
Oh don’t worry guys Rosie Barton’s there to ask Jack the tough ones.
Let me clarify: I am voting CPC, mainly because my riding has an excellent CPC MP.
However, I am discouraged that the Harper government is really bad on free speech.(The fearful internet bill they have promised to reintroduce within 100 days).
Yes, I know, the others are worse: but, as the Kate’s mantra goes: :”Pleasing your enemies does not turn them into friends.”
shut up, jess.
Well if the NDP wins we’ll be getting Kate’s famine in short order.
“He has a long record of true socialist principles – anti-corporate, pro-tax and free-spending.”
Maybe someone can explain the magical thinking behind those principles that will, at the same time, improve pensions.
I couldn’t post on Vίtruvius’s fine posting, but it is very appropriate today with very the real possibility of Canada putting a hole in its head.
Jess; your post is completely devoid of fact. Obama actually created the largest deficit year in the US’s history.
Harper also garnered a large deficit, to the wailing of the opposition parties who screamed that it wasn’t large enough.
An old co-worker of mine back in Victoria that I am still “friends” with on FB is a real diehard Dipper and keeps posting all this pro-Layton trash, like this link from today: http://www.progressive-economics.ca/2011/04/29/fiscal-record-of-canadian-political-parties/
I mean really, what a total load of codswallop….a great example of the old twist the stats trick.
We’ve got this one, the Dipper surge will not translate into the number of seats they expect in Quebec and… cue the cries for *dis*Proportional Representation to begin Tuesday morning.
Thank Gawd for First Past the Post.
we leftists will pay off the deficit
Just like your buddy Obama is doing, right? What level are his deficits running at again?
And you do realize if your man Jack had been in power in Canada, the “stimulus” would have been even bigger, with the result of an even bigger deficit? He did wail at the stinginess of Harper’s plan, after all.
And we all know how in what state that innumerate imbecile Bob Rae left Ontario’s finances.
Ignore history at your peril, jess, unless you’re looking forward to committing economic suicide, while paying for Quebec’s daycare.
This game isn’t over. The last poll out today is from Ipsos Reid. It shows the Conservatives at 38% with the NDP at 33%. But a large part of that 33% is in Quebec (the NDP is now the Bloc, for all intents and purposes with Duceppe being replaced by Layton). The Liberals are at 18%.
In Ontario, the Conservatives are at 40% with the NDP second at 34% and the Libs at 21%.
Conservatives and the NDP are poised to win seats around Toronto and the NDP may win some in Toronto itself, but both are at the expense of the Liberals.
Final comment…..”it appears turnout on Election Day will determine whether it will be a minority or majority Conservative government.”
Watch the polling stations for ACORN goons supported by NDP union hacks and Soros funded clowns.
Jess, don’t do drugs.
I can’t wish anything worse on “jess” and her ilk than an NDP government. In a way I’d almost like to see it happen. In a way it almost HAS to happen at least once. Having the NDP win one provincial election in Ontario has forever quashed their chances of getting in again.

Yes an NDP disaster would look good on the Jess’s of the country but it would cause so much damage to the rest of us that it would be hardly worth it. And even if it did open these lefty retards eyes, there is a never ending supply of them coming up in the demographics so we would just have to keep doing it over and over and even then most would be too stupid to get it. Better to keep them all far from any real power as possible. God help up Monday if these freaks get some power.
Ellie in T.O. Ontario hasn’t yet recovered from your 5 year Rae experiment, nor even pulled out from the dive. Doughheads like Coyne in Macleans support Libtards based on Harper’s so called contempt for Democracy, a 4 year from now election will remove the C’s if they truly show contempt with a majority, and poof the problem is solved. The damage an NDP government can wreak upon us in such a short time will take much longer to correct.
The Power Couple of Jack Lenin and Olivia Mao will soon be moving into 24 Sussex Drive.
Jess, if you don’t mind me asking, where have you learned such rubbish?
You do realize that should the NDP get anywhere near power, the ‘corporate overloads’ (tho’ I prefer to call them economic engines, social program financiers and/or employers) will pull their investment dollars out of Canada so fast it will make your head spin, don’t you?
An NDP or strongly NDP influenced government would create a sea change in politics for Canada.
If you only learn one thing in the next few days, learn this: Money moves faster than the speed of light when faced with political instability.
I don’t know your personal situation, but whatever it is, I guarantee you will suffer, either sooner or later, under a socialist government.
Taliban Jack Layton is a closet communist!
Buyer Beware!
sorry jess …your ignorance of the facts is showing. Bush couldn’t ‘create the deficit’. A lesson in American politics for you…Pelosi and friends created that deficit.
Ignorance is bliss,eh?
And if you can show me ANY time a ‘lefty’ payed down the deficit, I’ll kindly ask my friend batb to not ask you to shut up.
(Don’t try to use Martin as an example…we all know about the EI shuffle)
To those fair weather friends and sunshine warriors. Maybe I am older than some of you, but I remember the devestation of the Trudeau Socialist Era. Something from which we have never recovered. When Trudeau the Commie A*s Kisser came into power, Canada had a National Debt of 25M dollars. And we had No Separatists anywhere we were Canadian from Sea to Sea To Sea. Our dollar at times was backed by Gold Reserves as high as 70% to the dollar at times. Trudeau brought us a Structural National Debt of 200B, in 1970 Dollars, he bankrupted Alberta. He was the Father of Separatism in Quebec and Canada. He destroyed Canada’s Cultural Unity with Fake Multiculturism. Today voters are facing the same choices again. Those who do not learn from history will be doomed to repeat history. Interest rates of 25%, good luck to a whole generation wanting to buy homes. Gasoline shortages, will be coming because Jack thinks he can regulate the world price of gasoline and diesel. Wage and Price Controls will return, that is what Jack the Orange Pumpkin Head has already promised, that he will set the price of fuel. Jack will promise whatever he wants to get a vote. This is the same parasite who lived in Public Housing displacing a needy person while he was on Toronto city council. The same Parasite that arranged the enviromental program of 200 garbage trucks a day on the 401 going to Mich. rather than finding real solutions to Toronto’s garbage problem. Jack is a life long socialist fool that never had a real job in his whole life. He is nothing but a Classic Socialist Parasite, and it will take Canada Generations to recover from their programmed disaster of their own making. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. And hopefully you have your home paid off, because interest rates will be going through the roof. Bin there done that and kept the Tee shirt for a*swhipe. Keep in mind that this time the only engine driving our economy is the West. Our Dollar is a Petro Dollar. And Alberta is paying your bills. Expect that to end. Expect jobs working for the county on welfare along the highways like we saw in the 1970’s. Another lost generation who thought they were getting a free lunch.
TorStar is going to edorse the dippers and I don’t think this is a joke. The thing about incompetence is you never know the depths of it until it’s too late.
I think if this was to happen there would be “Eexcruciatingly and overwelming pressure” on key MP’s to cross the floor to the conservatives.
The offers would be to good to pass up.
For Jess a Fool. The total public debt of Canada is 3Trillion Dollars. All created by the Liberals with the push of the NDP. Ontario’s Total Public Debt is over 300B. Quebec is over 400B. Have you seen Greece and Ireland and Iceland in the news recently. As much as many think this is all Harper’s fault, what kind of drugs have you been on. This mess was not created in 5 years of a minority government. Separatism created by the Liberals. Chretien and Martin sold off all of Canada’s 700 Metric Tonnes of Gold Reserves for 150-200/oz. Genius Financial Guru’s. Stole 54B from the workers E/I Fund to pay down their National annual deficit, and the CBC and CTV call them economic Genius’s. Stole 9B in Tax Dollars and squirreled it away in Liberal Trust Funds to keep Liberals and NDP Socailist employed when not in power. The taxes in Canada have risen 1600% since the 1960’s because the Liberals have expanded government. 14% of Canada’s 16M workers now work for the government at some level or another. Taxes now consume more of the average Canadian Family Budget than Food, Clothing and Housing Combined in order to pay for useless Programs. And the Liberals and NDP are promising to expand on this disaster. If you vote Liberal or NDP you deserve to follow a Raven’s A*s the rest of your life from Dumpster to Dumpster for you and your families next meal. If you owe debt get out fast. The interest rates under more socialism will bankrupt you, and you will live in a rented house the rest of your life.
RFB: I too remember the Trudeau years. Mortgage interest in the 10-18% range. I remember empty Calgary office buildings (not just spaces). I remember people walking away from their homes. I remember Al Blakney nationalizing potash, buying farm land for a land bank, buying grain cars and generally pi..ing away our future. If Layton gets anywhere near a position of influence it will make these years seem like milk and honey. God help us all.
RFB: you forgot the soldiers on welfare, people walking away from their homes because of the mortgages they could no longer afford, and the pensioners wiped out by the inflation. I met them all. Pierre Trudeau and his “just society” (snort) — it cured me of any romantic delusions about socialism.
Layton not only willing but eager to sell out the rest of Canada to pander to Quebec. From his plan to expand Bill 101 and the French language police, to cap and trade/mega inflation and increased taxes, and re-opening the Constitution. The guy is more of a danger to Canada than Duceppe and Bloc.
Wake up Canada before it is to late!
Jess, what more needs to be said? I wonder why people like you hover around sites like SDA. Perhaps it excuses you from actually looking up facts. The opposition railed against Harper for not spending enough in 2008. Bush introduced the TARP program which by most accounts actually worked. Obama increased the deficit to its current mind boggling levels.
The difference is that Harper’s program actually seems to have worked. Obama’s seems to be a failure. Witness the pathetic GDP numbers recently released. It seems the FED thinks inflation and low interest rates are the way to go. This is wrong as anyone who has a slim grasp of economics would know. It will shrink your savings Jess as you spend more of them on stalks of celery and perhaps filling up your car. Most seniors like their money in interest bearing vehicles like CIDS etc. They are seeing their nest eggs eroding as inflation eats away at them.
If we go back to the early eighties, Reagan and his team choked inflation by raising interest rates. Yes, some people got hurt, but the economy sailed along beautifully for nearly 30 years.
The prospect of Layton riding a media generated wave into a position of power scares the hell out of me. I hope Canadians take a deep breath on election day and vote sensibly. Otherwise we will end up with Cap and Trade (say Jess?- you know what that means?), more spending, shutting down the largest engine in our economy and on and on and on.
Sorry to be depressing everyone. But this is serious stuff. Jack is not serious, promising the moon and neither is Jess spouting her silly nonsense.
Please get out out and vote
we leftists will pay off the deficit and build up a nice surplus
Jeeze, you don’t pay off deficits, you pay off debts, and surpluses mean the nation is overtaxed which destroys the middle class.
You Leftists don’t know squat about economics and if you ever get power we’ll all be jobless, hungry, and freezing in the darkness.
I don’t think that Stephen Taylor will mind my posting his email.
“Days before Canadians go to vote, I am shocked by the latest poll numbers. Apparently, the socialist NDP is surging in various parts of the country and may indeed spoil a Conservative majority. Even worse, Jack Layton has suggested that he would share power with the separatist Bloc Québécois and reopen Canada’s constitution. Pair this with an economic agenda that was written in Candyland, and Canada could be facing a generation of political and fiscal turmoil.
I remember Bob Rae’s Ontario and the accidental election of the socialist NDP in the 90s. Many Canadians are looking to the socialist NDP as a protest vote, but the time is critical to bring everyone back to the sobering reality. We must protect this fragile economic recovery that has now become uncertain with the rise of the socialists.
I’ve let you know of our plan to run these ads in the weekend editions of the Globe and Mail and National Post. We’re spreading a wakeup call to Canadians to remind them of the consequences of a terrible Orange Dawn that may come next Tuesday after election night. If you agree with me that this is a critical time to remind Canadians of what is at stake under the socialists and separatists please help us run these ads by contributing $35, $145, $250 or as much as you can afford at this time.
This is it… Let’s fight this together. We can save this election.”
Thank you,

PM Taliban Jack = Western Separation. Bring it on, Jack!
We in the West will no longer have to listen to the “wooshing sound” of our resource dollars being whisked from our grasp to prop up the massive welfare state named Quebec.
Stephen Taylor
Sparky, I really wish that sentiment would be more widely broadcast. I’m an Easterner, but lived many years in the West and I ‘get it’.
This nonsense has got to stop. People need to understand that our Western ‘have’ Provinces are not going to finance Canada indefinitely. They are, especially, not prepared to finance a Province that eschews everything they stand for but shamelessly grabs at every dollar made available to them by the Federal Government. Honest to God, would Quebec be prepared to do what Alberta has done for the last number of years? Not on your life. If they were the slightest bit self-sufficient, they would have kissed Confederation buh, bye a long, long time ago.
I am spitting mad at the apparent stupidity of Quebec voters.
I’m not a Westerner, but if the NDP ends up heading Canada’s government (please, God, NO!) I’ll be for Western separation. I might even move to the West to get the Hell out of what would become a Snake Pit for the sane.
The real facts this election. Harper’s War. Never in the history of Canada has a Party Leader ran against such odds. He is alone facing, a Socilialist Separatist Party, and a Socialist Coalition of Greens, Liberals and NDP’s. He faces Former Socialist PM’s Chretien, Martin, Joe Clarke and Mulroney all adgitating against solid fiscal management and common sense. He faces all of the MSM media in Canada arrayed against him. He has not bent from his initial promises inspite of tremendous pressure on all sides. A lesser man would of promised the sky to get your vote. He is running against 50 years of a ZOMBIE SOCIALIST HORDE who all believe in the tooth fairy and they all think they are going to snack out on free lunch. Hell Igantieff even wants fully Bilingual Cops the full length of the Trans Canada hiway. What kind of an idiot promises something like that. Jack the Orange Pumpkin Head is promising to re-open the Constitution just to appease Quebec and pander for votes. I hope he does. I think Canada has outlived its usefulness. The fools do not even know how Canada works. The idiot Ignatieff thinks that Ottawa actually can dictate who polices the TransCanada, a violation of the Constitution itself. If Jack O Lantern thinks he can open the Constitution just for Quebec he is going to get a fast and hard lesson in the power of Provinces. He needs 7 Provinces to just get a meeting going. He is a nobody promising the world to a bunch of Uneducated Liberal Bumpkins that actually think they can run Canada. If you think for one minute that Quebec is going to run Alberta, and bleed us dry again to pander for Socialist Votes in QUebec and Eastern Canada you better wake up. That dog won’t hunt no more. Alberta can and will back up its threats this time. The Alberta Government just realeased a report just before the election, that Alberta is going to go into the biggest BOOM in the history of Canada. The projection is for 700B in expansion in the resources sector over the next 10 years. We don’t need TROC. You folks had best wake up fast. Because we will never submit again to Quebec or Eastern Canada. We Do Not Need You. And Sask. is in the same position. We will not once again stand by as the Eastern Retards destroy our Province. We are not Quebec, we can pay our own way and will secure our future and posterity with you or without you…
Guess I am kinda cranky. But why is all the media drooling over a wedding across the Atlantic? As Obama said yesterday, don’t we have more important things to do? Thank God for Netflix.
“The west” doesn’t just include Alberta, many in BC feel the same way.
For those who have not seen this report on the Alberta Resources Expansion, it is here cut and paste. Do you people really think that Albertans will allow an idiot like Layton to run the Resources of Alberta and dictate. Not going to happen. 700B in expansion in the next 10 years. You Dummies in Eastern Canada better wake up while you still have a pot to p*ss in and a window to throw it out of, because Jack The Pumpkin Head is Not Going To Run Alberta or Oil and Gas in Alberta. He is a Nobody who is selling Snake Oil To Gullible Eastern Fools. http://www.acr-alberta.com/PUBLICATIONSREPORTS/ACRTaskForce/tabid/206/Default.aspx
“But why is all the media drooling over a wedding across the Atlantic?”
Because wnmc, drooling is what the media does best.
James I’m a working man in BC as well and the NDP almost killed the province by turning it into a welfare state.
I hope the NDP get burned in the election.
They deserve it.
God help us.

Thank you,
Stephen Taylor
