“Would you watch a Fox News-like channel in Canada?”

A poll that may not go horribly wrong, but we can give them a run for their money.
Update: It has taken just 90 minutes to shift the poll results from 15% “yes” to a near dead heat. SDA gets results!

  1. Actually, T, I distinctly remember the day I stopped listening to them, and switched to Newstalk for the morning show AND Gormley: it was Sept 11, 2001. The towers were falling, and CBC was still playing pre-recorded crap. End of the Kool-aid.

Don’t any of you listen to the erudite Sheila Coles and Ted Deller on CBC Sask. Radio Morning Edition?

  2. to Colin at 10:28,
    Exactly.
    It’s Kate’s pet troll,
let her feed the damn thing.
If she goes away for the weekend and asks you to take care of it,
great, then take care of it.
Otherwise, it’s already fat and stupid enough.

  3. Well, well, well. SDA, comme d’habitude, delivers in spades:
    Poll went from
    23% yes, 77% no @ 5:00 p.m. last night to
71% yes, 29% no this morning.
    Well-done, chaps!

  4. Good Gawd, it’s pathetic when the taxpayer funded, self-appointed/anointed disseminators of the “word” perceive a threat to their fiefdom. just the thought of a Fox News like channel has them spinning like tops. Funny how Al Jezeera didn’t get the same kind of hand wringing that Fox does. Of course they will point to Glen Beck and O’Reilly and call them biased “news” shows when they are in fact not and never claim to be. Funny this is that, even if you don’t care for glen Beck and his blackboard presentations, you cannot argue the facts he gives, more often than not, are in the very words spoken by the subject of the story.
I think the real problem is that since the Senate retirement home isn’t taking any more journalists the old farts like Newman have no place to go.

  5. Flashback Liblogs: Friday, November 30, 2007.
“Big story on CBC last night:”.
    Vive le Fox Libre.
    …-
“5. For someone who is supposed to be verboten with the Conservative government, Brian Mulroney’s lingering closeness to them is still doing a lot of good with the feds. Big story on CBC last night:
Former prime minister Brian Mulroney talked to the current Conservative government on behalf of a company that could benefit from Ottawa’s decision to open up the wireless industry to more competition, CBC News has learned.
Mulroney played an active role in bringing together former industry minister Maxime Bernier and Pierre Karl Peladeau, CEO of Quebecor Media, CBC News has learned. Mulroney is on the board of directors for Quebecor Media.
Sources say earlier this year, Mulroney asked Bernier to meet with Peladeau. The request was made during a conversation on a range of topics.
During their chat, Mulroney reminded Bernier of Quebecor’s strong belief that the government should allow new players into the telecom sector, something sources say Bernier was opposed to.

On Wednesday, the Conservative government paved the way for new cellphone companies by announcing new rules for an auction of radio airwaves designed to spur competition in the wireless industry. Analysts expect Quebecor will be one of the companies to enter the auction. (emphasis added)
What am I up to now in the Maxime Bernier watch? Oh yes, this would be strike seven.
Apparently Mulroney should be registered as a lobbyist in order to be arranging such meetings, given his position on the Quebecor board. Again, not looking good for the Harperites and their linkings with Mulroney. Big conflict of interest and appearance of favoritism going on here.”

  6. I am not sure if T is just a kool aide souse, or is he cynically serving it? I suspect the latter strongly.

  7. Who said, Revenge is a dish(sic) best served cold?
Mulroney > CBC > Fifth Estate > Stevie Cameron (RCMP mole + Ad$Cam Chretien + Rock + libel suit) > Newman > Peter CBC >>> Quebecor = Fox Libre.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

  8. The old farts of Canadian television understand that Fox has turned the interviewer into the interviewed. What scares them most is FoxNorth would open doors to the amateur with the Flip.
Suddenly journalists would be faced with their own personal ‘Helen Thomas Moments’ that have up till now remained ever secret within the press gallery.

  9. If the off air liason between Tom Clark, CTV’s “Power Play” host and Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay is more than an Ottawa rumour, then Tom Clark and his Power Play program are tainting every facet of Globemedia with LiberalParty influenced mush.
A perfect example why a Fox News North is long overdue in Canada, I just hope that Conrad Black will be involved with the FOX North venture to ensure a true conservative in the mix along with Kate McMillan and Brian Mulroney stays to hell out of it.

  10. It’s too bad the poll didn’t ask how many people are already watching FOX News, it’s the only news network around that actually presents the facts. There’s a reason why Bell bundled it with 5 channels they cannot sell and it is still a bigtime winner.

  11. There will never be a conservative voice in Canada’s media…
not while broadcasting is regulated by the CRTC…
Quebecor’s “conservative” channel will be something like the Toronto Sun; progressive, anti-
    American, pro-China ….
I’ll watch the real deal – Fox News likely has more viewers in Canada than CTV, Global and CBC combined …
    Canada is the 3’rd world

  12. Craig Oliver last night on Tom Clark’s Power play:
(BTW, Joel Denis Bellavance from La Presse was there too and his comment was: “I don’t see how a channel like this will have any viewership in Canada”…He was twitching and nervous when he said it ’cause he knows deep down the political landscape is changing in the Great White North)
Anyway, this is what the old plucked bird said:
“Fox news is dangerous propaganda. They don’t stop at calling President Obama a socialist, they call him a fascist…”
What about all the others when Bush was Prez, Craig?…MSNBC never called Bush names?
Very convenient the Newmans and Olivers of Canada state FOX as a Right wing propaganda machine but omits to state that MSNBC is also there for the other end of the spectrum.
Frankly, FOX is much closer to the centre thus more balanced than MSNBC is.

  13. poll Dont look good Mr Benny
A little off the topic, However here is just another example of why we need another More concise news channel.
The other nite CBC’s Neil MacDonald was reporting from Washington on the oil spill & Obamas trips to the spill. He made a comment at the very end of the clip that Obama’s poll #’s are riding very high.
Now i dont know how reputable the polls from Rasmussen Reports are. But they show Obama in the Negatives & have been since june 2009. June 10/2010 -17

  14. How interesting…the Liberal left in this country are vilifying the U.S.Fox network.
Proof positive that THEY are WATCHING FOX news…
How else would they know Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Hannity?
It’s time to get our own.

  15. The only CBC I watch is HNIC. I quit watching CBC and CTV news years ago.
However I do listen to CBC radio quite often as it is the only reception in the mountains. Has any one else noticed how many ex-CBC TV so-called news people are now on CBC Radio? ie Hana & Company from that icon of investigative journalism ‘The Fifth Estate’.
I would probably watch a FOX News Canadian variation. Not that I would necessarily believe it but it would certainly balance the news reporting (if you can call it that?)that goes on in this country. It might even spark some serious debate.

  16. I love reading the sneering commentary from the CBC leftards – all 10 of ’em. 🙂
Going to the comments section on a CBC site is like a massive ego boost – you have to see for yourself the chronic self deluded sanctimony in the partisan left culture warriors to realize how rational, well adjusted and unpretentious you are.
Browsing CBC’s online commentary clique is my daily affirmation that partisan leftism is a sociopathic personality disorder masquerading as a political philosophy.

  17. The reaction from those on the left side of the political/philosophical spectrum on this topic reminds me of what Stalin once said,
“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.”

  18. The Canadian Fox News-like Channel would probably not treat the-little-fart-from-Shiwinnigan’s return to politics (Iggy is toast)as the second coming of you know who.

  19. Yes I would and the sooner it launches the better. The reaction of Don Newman and Lloyd Oliver to the announcement exposes the left’s thinking that they have a lock on the so-called “news”.

  20. Notice how T has ignored my calling-him-out challenge to admit that he’s a pathetically-addicted pothead/probably gro-op criminal whose venomus, vitriolic and totally pig-headed attack on “Stevo” and every conservative-thinking Canadian is because the Harper government plans to bring in a new bill this fall that would seriously curtail the undergeround gro-op business. I take that as an admission, thank you.

  21. Since when did Rupert Murdoch become a Saudi?
Fox News is owned by News Corp, and Mr Murdoch owns it. He is Australian-American btw. In fact any news item involving News corp, a subsidiary or RM has a disclaimer mentioned so as to ensure there is no misreporting.

  22. I suspect this poll like others hits a lefty glass ceiling when they hit about 700.
This panicks them….we outnumber them and we have PALS.

  23. Dr. Who is on the Space Channel, Simeon. You can have your TARDIS and travel, too. : )
If you want T to say something clever, use reverse psychology. You say something ridiculous like: “Stephen Harper is terrible!” and T will respond (as is his contradictory nature) like so: “No he isn’t! He’s wonderful!” Then you point out that T has finally admitted it and he goes off in the corner to cry softly to himself.

  24. Tried the globe and mail poll.
Voted and it did not register my vote in the totals.
Tried another computer with a different ip and saw a different set of totals.
Tried a 3rd computer with different ip and once again different total. Going back to the site from any of the three computers show the last totals.
    yes 3232
    no 11944
    yes 3262
    no 12084
    yes 3240
    no 11976
This was in the order of visiting the site, Notice the total went up then dropped down.

  25. Does anyone know if we can invest in this new News entity? It’ll be a real money maker.

  26. It’s always an education to read the comments from the CBC intellectual crowd. Well, they always view themselves as intellectuals. As others have said. It has to be fear. They fear anything that isn’t spun in the Marxist direction. They must be awfully insecure. I think they’re called sheeple and useful idiots.

  27. Warren, I’d rather see Harper fire them all, burn the place down and sow salt in the ashes.
I’m probably destined to be disappointed, eh? 🙂

  28. FOX news is one of the worst, most uninformative, sources of news there is. It’s agenda is to spread opinion by blurring the line between news and entertainment. Every second spent watching such utter garbage is a waste of life.

  29. I was just over at CBC reading the comments and have to laugh at the leftoids crying foul. Somehow a lot of them are assuming that a Canadian Fox would be funded by tax dollars like their CBC. Then there are the ones who try to invoke the dreaded “P” (as in Palin) into the conversation as if that is the end of the world. Oh, and the fact that the polls favour a Fox-Canuck or their comments get a thumbs down is proof that the poll is rigged. Hilarity in every sentence for sure.
for the Record, I pay the premium and get Fox News on Eastlink. It is well worth the $6.00.

  30. Aguy you forgot the sarc at the end of your post. Obviously you were referring to the CBC and just calling it Fox as a kind of sarcasm right?

  31. CBC news is one of the worst, most uninformative, sources of news there is. it’s agenda is to spread opinion by blurring the line between news and entertainment.Every second spent watching such utter garbage is a waste of life.
    there,fixed it for you Aguy.

  32. Sweet!!!
SDA: The Blogging Conservative battering ram.
Liberals shiver in fear . Marxists want a purge.
Cino’s weep in frustration. Islamists take down names.
The SDA community is on to you.
    JMO

  33. Will that be truth or Pravda, comrade? The most obvious thing about the anti-Fox folks’ comments is their rabid determination that not only will they not watch it but neither will you, if they have any say. Trudeaupian totalitarianism like the CHRC is right at home among Canada’s so-called liberals.

  34. So folks, can we get it up to 75%? I’ve done my bit, someone else will have to step up to the plate now.

  35. Like many Canucks, I get FNC as my primary source of news, as I find it the only news channel which reports the news in a fair & balanced way – and I have gone to some length to check on several items (mis)reported by other channels, or worse yet ignored, but presented credibly by FNC.
That being said, I have gone off O’Reilly quite a bit since he lost a pair and now insists on dumbing down his reportage on controversial issues. Guess Bill is afraid he’ll lose his show if he reports what really happens and names names.
Funny, this started last year, when that Saudi faux prince bought a large chunk of FNC stock, and made O’Reilly wealthier than Midas.
But FNC shines in several other areas, notably Glenn Beck & Sean Hannity, Megyn Kelly & Neil Cavuto. Downside is that moron Gutfeldt’s sneering Bill Mahr-like ramblings which are juvenile.
Canadian TV? Ya gotta be kidding.

  36. Although I don’t get Fox News, I read Gutfeld’s column over at Big Hollywood and he’s alright. He makes me laugh sometimes, anyway. And if you disagree with me you’re probably a racist, homophobe who beats baby animals.

  37. I’m a fan of FOX but not O’Reilly. He bothers me; he is constantly interrupting his speakers and that really puts me off him.
And frankly, he still sees Obama as ahh..’real’. That is, he doesn’t seem to be aware of Obama’s psychological problems..and he doesn’t seem to be aware that Obama is profoundly ignorant. O’Reilly actually thinks he is ‘intelligent’.
I like Hannity, Beck, Van Susterin.

  38. If Kory Teneycke truly has a sense of humour,
he may wish to consider calling the new station:
The Neanderthal News Network. TN3 for short.
Seriously. From a comedic and marketing standpoint,
    it would be brilliant.
It would draw viewers from around the world.
The name would be funny, but the serious news and
commentary would provide an elegant counterpoint.
    Just a thought.

  39. One of many differences between Liberals and Conservatives,
is that we Cons are not afraid to laugh at ourselves.
The name would also allow the station to do some comedy skit segments
( kinda like “This Hour has 22 Minutes”, or “Royal Canadian Air Farce”),
to add humour and to round out the programming.
Laughter and seriousness. A winning combination.
I hope you’re reading this, Kory.
Or, if anyone on this site knows Kory, please pass this suggestion on to him.
Now, the name could be different than TN3, but I think the humour aspect will
    guarantee success.

  40. The MSM in Canada are shitting in their collective panties at the thought of having a FoxNews-style channel in Canada. Why? The same thing would happen here that has happened in the U S of A! What is that, you ask? The Fox-like channel will take most of their viewers away and do it with a vengeance.
That channel will actually give viewers alot more info for their cable-channel dollar than CBC/CTV/Global ever dreamed of giving us.
I can’t wait for it to come. With its arrival will begin the countdown to the actual death of the un-beloved CBC! Bring it on – PULEEEEEEESE!

  41. Harper will probably veto it, can’t have any conservatives saying things without a script.
Or will Kory get a script every day?
Anyway, CBC has some conservatives too, as long as they don’t mention climate fraud or free speech with too many details added, they are allowed to bang on about how we need to save the taxpayer’s money. Obviously Harper isn’t watching the CBC (why would he?) because he would memo them to check on these details.
To get these details, just e-mail
    PMSH@fakelake.on.ca
and a CSIS agent will be right around to see you.

  42. Peter – how about occupying your mind with stuff that is actually important – or do you take your cue from the CBC/CTV crowd and find yourself completely incapable of thinking for yourself?
